Chapter 51: At the Edge of the Cliff (1)

They were still some distance away from the rocky mountain, yet Roxanna could already hear the wolves howling in the distance. She lifted her head and saw the full moon hanging high in the sky.

Based on Zeir’s explanation, she knew that demon wolves grew much stronger during a full moon. For Calen to lose his mind at a time like this... it was truly the worst possible timing.

[This is my fault...] Roxanna spoke in her mind. She sighed inwardly and didn’t say much as they headed toward the rocky mountain.

[No, wait, THIS IS THE SYSTEM’S FAULT!] Roxanna widened her eyes when she realized it. [If the system hadn’t asked me to secretly release their crystal seals, Calen wouldn’t have suddenly lost his mind!]

Zeir and Azul silently glanced at each other. They couldn’t hear the voice that had been speaking to Roxanna all this time, but they knew she called it "the system."

Once they realized that the system was the one that had caused this chaos, they wanted nothing more than to kill it right then and there, especially because the system had made Roxanna feel guilty—wait, no, she was blaming the system now.

That was great.

At least their wife was no longer blaming herself. Whoever that system was, they sincerely hoped Roxanna would keep directing all her guilt toward that bastard instead.

"That’s Cyrus," Azul said when he spotted a red bird descending from the sky. Midway down, the bird shifted back into a human form.

Once again, he wasn’t wearing any clothes, but Azul had brought both his and Luan’s clothes, so he immediately threw them to Cyrus.

"Calen’s instincts seem to be leading him to the rocky mountain," Cyrus said after putting on his clothes.

Azul and Zeir paused for a moment so they could speak seriously. Besides, they were already very close to Calen’s location.

"Why?" Zeir asked, frowning. "To hide?"

Azul shrugged. "Maybe... but that doesn’t really make sense, does it?"

The rocky mountain was made up of countless cliffs, but there weren’t many places to hide. No vegetation grew in the rocky area, and gaps between the cliffs that could be used as caves were extremely rare.

In short, hiding in the rocky mountain was completely useless.

"Actually," Cyrus said, "he’s heading upward. He’s climbing the cliffs."

As soon as Roxanna heard that, she immediately jumped down from Zeir’s arms. She didn’t say anything and ran straight toward the rocky mountain.

She had never shifted into her animal form before, but with her thoughts filled with fear and worry, her body reacted on its own. In the next moment, she transformed into a fox.

Walking on four legs felt strange at first, but she quickly got used to it. Soon, she was running faster than she ever could in her human form.

She could faintly hear her husbands calling her name from behind, but she ignored them. Right now, her mind was was focused solely on Calen.

"Roxanna, where are you going?!"

Amid her husbands’ shouts, she also heard the howls of demon wolves, but she ignored them.

She kept running, even faster now. Her nose twitched slightly as she tried her best to catch Calen’s scent. The moment she found it, her body moved on its own, pushing her forward.

Not far from her, several demon wolves appeared, their large fangs sticking out from their snouts. Whether it was her animal instinct or her own awareness, Roxanna quickly changed direction, choosing a safer path within seconds.

Her husbands no longer shouted her name, probably because they didn’t want to attract the demon wolves.

However, Cyrus followed her from above, while Zeir and Azul ran behind her. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

The journey toward the peak of the rocky mountain was extremely tricky, but a fox had strong legs and claws, so she didn’t struggle too much while climbing the rocky cliffs.

Her light body leapt from one rock to another, but when she accidentally landed on a slippery stone, she slid downward. Before she could fall any further, Cyrus shifted into his human form and caught her in time.

One of his hands dug firmly into the rock, while the other wrapped tightly around her, holding her in place.

"Roxanna, what are you doing?" Cyrus kept his voice low so he wouldn’t draw the attention of the demon wolves nearby. He was even careful not to make any sudden movements.

Roxanna couldn’t speak in her beast form, but since Cyrus could hear her thoughts, understanding her wasn’t difficult.

[I need to find Calen. Right now.] Roxanna directed her gaze toward the cliff above and barely acknowledged Cyrus’s presence.

She struggled in his arms, and once she managed to break free from his grip, the pink fox leapt from one rock to another again, but this time, more carefully than before.

Cyrus clicked his tongue softly. Even though he could hear her thoughts, Roxanna wasn’t thinking much beyond her strong urge to find Calen as soon as possible.

In a heartbeat, he shifted back into his bird form and kept close watch on her from above, ready to save her if she slipped again.

Fortunately, nothing bad happened.

In less than fifteen minutes, Roxanna finally reached the peak of the rocky mountain.

She stopped in her tracks when she saw Calen standing right at the edge of the cliff. If he took just one more step forward, he would fall straight down, crashing into the sharp rocks below, where the demon wolves were waiting.

Not far from Calen, Luan sat quietly in his cat form. His green eyes were fixed on Calen. When he noticed Roxanna and Cyrus, Luan immediately moved toward them.

He shifted back into his human form and said, "Roxanna, he—"

He stopped when Roxanna shifted back into her human form as well.

She wasn’t wearing any clothes either, but her long hair fell over her chest, barely covering her. Even so, Luan and Cyrus found it hard to look away.

It was strange, honestly.

It wasn’t the first time they had seen her body. In fact, they had seen it before, back when the evil Roxanna had forced herself on them.
