I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 58: Just the Back, Alright!
Without wasting any more time, Calen immediately carried Roxanna away from the ravine. The roar of Demon Fenrir grew louder, and cold wind blew strongly from within the abyss.
Calen wrapped a piece of cloth around Roxanna’s bleeding arm, making sure not a single drop of blood touched the ground. Once they were out of Fenrir’s territory and the sound of cicadas returned, he brought her into a small, empty cave.
"We need to cover ourselves with mud first," Calen said. "Then we can go home."
Roxanna let out a tired sigh. "It would be much easier if it suddenly rained. Our scent would be completely washed away."
As soon as the words left Roxanna’s mouth, the sky seemed to answer her wish.
Rain came crashing down without warning. It wasn’t a gentle drizzle, but a sudden, violent downpour. Thick sheets of rain slammed into the forest, soaking the ground in seconds.
Roxanna froze for a moment, then let out a shaky laugh. "Did I... jinx it?"
Calen frowned. "Who’s Jinx? Is that a man’s name?"
"It’s not a man’s name!" Roxanna said quickly, laughing a little. Every time she said something strange, Calen always thought it was a man. "It just means I accidentally said something that made it happen."
She let out another sigh. "Should we... keep going? I don’t want the others to worry about us."
"It’s fine. They know I’m a good runner, so of course they won’t think the demon wolves could catch me!" Calen said proudly. "We can stay here for a couple of hours, then head back once the rain starts to ease."
Roxanna walked to the edge of the cave and reached her hand outside, feeling the cold rain falling from the sky. "If we let the rain wash over our bodies, we might be able to get rid of all our scent."
Their natural scent wouldn’t disappear, but at least the scent from before the rain would change, since it had mixed with sweat.
"Maybe... we can use some soapberries?" Roxanna said. "They can help drive away our scent too."
She wasn’t sure if she could find any randomly, but Calen immediately went to look for them and returned with a handful.
"It’ll be cold, so we have to be quick," Calen warned. "And don’t go too far from the cave. There are still demon beasts roaming around in the rain. Don’t worry, I won’t look if you don’t want me to."
Roxanna let out a soft sigh. Hiding felt pointless anyway, since Calen had already seen her naked before.
"Actually... it’s fine," Roxanna slowly looked away. "We’re just taking a bath."
That was also what she had said before mating with Azul. But honestly, it hadn’t been a bad thing.
She had mated with Azul and kissed Cyrus yesterday, so maybe... doing something a little naughty with Calen would be fine.
Yeah. Just a little. Maybe a kiss would be fine.
She took off her clothes and folded them neatly. She didn’t have any spare clothes, so she had to take good care of them, or she’d have to go home naked.
Earlier, Calen had already gathered some branches to start a campfire, but since everything was wet, he had trouble lighting it.
Luckily, Roxanna had a Fire Starter Stone, and it could light a fire even with wet branches.
After that, both of them stood under the rain, with their backs turned to each other. Only then did she realize that being naked while both of them were fully aware was still embarrassing, especially since they could see everything clearly.
Meanwhile, with Azul, at least they had bathed in a lake, and even though the water was clear, she still had the water to hide most of their bodies.
Here, under the open rain, there was nothing to shield her at all.
Roxanna shifted her weight awkwardly, hugging her arms around herself as the cold rain washed over her skin. Her face felt warm, even though the air was freezing.
"I can help scrub your back," Calen suddenly said, sounding a little hesitant. "If you don’t mind."
Roxanna fell silent for a moment, her mind filled with thoughts. [Ah, it’s too embarrassing! It’s too embarrassing!]
[But if we don’t clean every part of our bodies, maybe we won’t be able to hide our scent properly. Maybe it’s fine, we’re just scrubbing each other’s backs, after all.]
[Just the back, alright!]
"I... I can do it for you first," Roxanna said shyly. "If that’s okay."
"Alright," Calen replied. "You can scrub my back first."
Roxanna then turned around, and for some reason, she felt even more embarrassed when she was faced with his broad back.
She unconsciously bit her lower lip. Aside from a man’s face, she had always found broad backs attractive, and Calen just happened to have one.
Standing so close to him felt like facing a solid wall, and now she finally understood why he could carry her on his back so easily, again and again, without ever seeming tired.
She reached out hesitantly, her fingers brushing against Calen’s back. His skin was warm despite the cold rain, firm beneath her touch. She swallowed and focused, reminding herself of what she’d told herself earlier.
Just the back. That’s all.
She rubbed the soapberries between her palms, then gently scrubbed his back, moving slowly and carefully. The rain washed everything away as she worked, the dirt, the blood, the lingering scent.
Calen stood very still, shoulders relaxed, trusting her completely.
"Is this alright?" Roxanna asked softly.
"Yes," Calen replied at once. "You’re doing fine."
After a while, it was Calen’s turn to scrub her back. Roxanna swept her long hair to the side, giving him a clear view of her back.
Her skin looked a little pale under the constant cold rain, and Calen couldn’t help but wonder... would her back look even more beautiful if he left a few bite marks there?
Calen froze for a brief moment.
"Calen?" She called his name after he stayed quiet for too long. "Are you alright?"
