I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 668 - 470 Immortals_2
The events of the day had all but destroyed Lin Yu’s worldview.
Being a doctor is an inherently rational profession. Having undergone higher education, Lin Yu simply didn’t believe there was anything in the world that couldn’t be explained by science. Yet no matter how she thought about it, she couldn’t find a suitable explanation for what had happened today.
Meanwhile, Lin Yu’s mother, who was busy in the kitchen, heard the door open and walked out with a delighted expression.
"Dear daughter, you’ve finally listened to your mother! You’re a director; you don’t have to do everything yourself. Don’t work yourself so hard. Stop coming home at midnight every time. Getting off work at a normal hour like today is so much better."
"Mom, I work overtime because the hospital needs me. There are many patients only I can look after. Something unexpected just came up, that’s why I’m back so early," Lin Yu said with a wry smile.
"What happened today?" her mother asked with concern.
"Just some..." Lin Yu opened her mouth but ended up forcing a casual smile. "Trivial matters."
With that, she tilted her nose up, sniffing in the direction of the kitchen. "Mom, what are you cooking today? It smells amazing. I’m starving."
Hearing this, her mother remembered she hadn’t turned off the stove and scurried back to the kitchen. As she went, she didn’t forget to call back to Lin Yu, "It’s all your favorite dishes, and they’re almost ready! Go to the study and call your dad out first. Oh, right, what do you think of Aunt Liu’s son, the one I told you about? He’s the secretary-general of our city now, you know. He’s handsome, too. If you think he’s okay, I can arrange for you two to meet."
"No, no, no," Lin Yu said, hastily waving her hands. "Mom, please don’t worry about this for me. I’m swamped with work every day. Where would I find the time to date?"
Her mother poked her head out of the kitchen, ready to press the issue. "You’re not getting any younger; you can’t go on like this."
But seeing Lin Yu had already scurried off toward the study, she could only sigh in resignation.
As soon as Lin Yu pushed open the study door, she heard her father’s laughter.
"Your mom only wants what’s best for you. But don’t worry," Lin Yu’s father, Lin Tianhua, said as he put down his newspaper. He turned around, smiling warmly at his beloved daughter. "Even if my darling daughter never marries, I’ll support you for life."
When Lin Yu was young, he hadn’t wanted her to become a doctor. It was Lin Yu herself who had secretly applied to medical school. Lin Tianhua had been quite angry at the time.
But years passed, and now Lin Yu could discuss difficult and complex cases with him. Many of his old friends frequently praised her, and only then did he finally relent and agree to let her be a doctor.
After that, Lin Yu’s progress was even more rapid than he could have imagined. It was then that Lin Tianhua understood that his daughter was naturally cut out to be a doctor. Her future achievements would surely surpass his own.
"Alright, let’s go eat," Lin Tianhua said with a smile, looking at his daughter in the doorway. He started to get up to head to the living room.
But as he stood, Lin Yu pushed him back down into his chair.
After much deliberation, Lin Yu had decided to tell her father everything she had encountered during the day.
"What’s this? Not letting me eat today?" Lin Tianhua laughed, but Lin Yu’s expression was uncharacteristically grave.
"Dad, I need to ask you something. If a patient whose heart had stopped for at least two hours suddenly came back to life, do you think that’s possible?" she asked. "And before that, his internal organs had been shattered in a car accident, leaving them with only thirty percent function. He was only being kept in a vegetative state by machines. But after he revived, all his internal organs had healed completely."
Listening to Lin Yu’s words, Lin Tianhua was stunned for a moment before responding immediately.
"Daughter, is something wrong with your head?"
"My dear daughter, have you been so busy these past few days that your mind has gotten muddled?" Lin Tianhua asked again with concern when she didn’t reply right away.
As he spoke, he even raised his hand, preparing to check if she had a fever. She’s a professional doctor. How could she ask such a question?
"Dad, I’m not sick, and my mind is perfectly clear. I’m not joking with you," Lin Yu said, taking a step back, her expression earnest and serious.
Knowing his daughter well, Lin Tianhua knew this was an expression she rarely wore. If she said something with such a serious look, it meant she definitely wasn’t joking.
But even so, he found it hard to believe. He retracted his half-extended hand.
"Daughter, you’re a professional head of surgery. How can you ask something like that?" he continued. "Every single point you just made is fundamentally impossible, let alone all of them happening together."
Having said that, Lin Tianhua sighed heavily. "Never mind a person whose heart has stopped for two hours being revived. His shattered organs simply couldn’t heal on their own. Even if his self-healing ability were hundreds of times stronger, it would probably take centuries for such severe injuries to heal by themselves."
As Lin Yu’s father and a renowned medical professor famous throughout the Dragon Country, Lin Tianhua naturally didn’t believe in supernatural things. In fact, just six months ago, he wouldn’t have even believed that phenomena unexplainable by science existed. Back then, he felt that everything in the world could be explained by science.
Later, however, he heard a few of his equally rational old friends speak of a particular medical case. After that, his worldview had certainly shifted. But a dead person coming back to life? That was something he still couldn’t believe, no matter what.
He’d sooner trust the scalpel in his hands.
"But Dad, it... it really happened. And it happened right in front of my eyes," Lin Yu insisted, her face still a mask of disbelief as she recalled the day’s events.
She then continued, "I was the one who confirmed and signed his death certificate. I’d been overseeing his case for half a month, so I knew his condition very clearly. Without the machines, he would have died in minutes. But because of a single pill... he just... he became perfectly fine, as if nothing had ever happened."
Seeing his daughter grow more and more agitated as she spoke, Lin Tianhua’s heart skipped a beat. He had never seen her like this.
Could it be? Did someone who had already died really come back to life at the Third Hospital today?
Lin Tianhua quickly pulled Lin Yu over to the sofa and asked in detail, "What exactly happened at the hospital today? Tell me the whole story from beginning to end, every single detail."
"Okay." Lin Yu nodded, finally ready to tell her father about the problem that had been troubling her all afternoon. "You know about my patient, Zhang Buyu, right? I’ve told you about him."
Lin Tianhua nodded. "The name sounded familiar. He’s the only patient you’ve had recently who was in a vegetative state because of a car accident."
Lin Yu continued, "He was in a car accident half a month ago. Most of his internal organs were destroyed, and he went into a vegetative state, his heartbeat maintained only by the hospital’s machines. A condition like that couldn’t last long to begin with. Today, his condition suddenly became critical. Despite our rescue efforts, he still passed away. So, I called Zhang Buyu’s father, and then..."
"Then what happened?" Lin Tianhua leaned in, suddenly anxious.
Lin Yu had to take a deep breath before she could say the next words.
