I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 739 - 506: Routine
Cries of "Apologize!" erupted from the crowd, one after another. The sound was so immense it drowned out everything else, becoming the only voice on the pedestrian street.
Peng Changye's face flushed red, but he was unwilling to accept defeat. Even having lost, he refused to concede.
After all, the Coin Magic Xia Liang just performed was too uncanny. It was utterly flawless, which made it seem impossible. He even began to suspect that the female TV host was one of Xia Liang's plants.
Peng Changye took a deep breath and waited for the noise to die down before speaking. "Of course, I must apologize. I always keep my word. However, I never said one match would decide the winner, did I? Since this is a magic competition, how can we compete in just one round? That wouldn't be enough to showcase our respective skills. Let's make it best two out of three. If you can beat me one more time, I will apologize immediately. I won't go back on my word, and all these spectators can be my witnesses."
Xia Liang had known Peng Changye would pull a stunt like this. A man of his status valued his personal dignity and reputation above all else. If he apologized so easily today, word would spread across the country in no time. His standing and reputation within the magic circle would plummet.
However, Xia Liang wasn't the least bit anxious. He simply smiled and said, "Fine by me. You can choose the next magic challenge. Even if it's proposition magic, I'm game."
Xia Liang's overwhelming confidence once again earned him a burst of enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
The strong will always command respect!
Even Peng Changye was taken aback by such powerful confidence, and he was already starting to feel a hint of regret. But he was in a position he couldn't back down from, so he could only force a smile and say, "In that case, I won't hold back. We're competing in street magic today, so we should find our materials on the street. That fits the definition, wouldn't you say?"
Xia Liang smiled and nodded. "I have no objection."
"Alright then," Peng Changye said. "Shall we take a walk together?"
"I think you should dismiss your security guards first," Xia Liang said calmly. "As long as they're surrounding us like this, I can't see a thing."
Peng Changye gave an awkward smile. "My apologies. That was my oversight."
He then spoke to his nearby assistant. The assistant hesitated for a moment before giving a slight nod and turning to speak with the head of security. Immediately, all the guards withdrew.
Peng Changye then gestured for him to proceed. Without the slightest hesitation, Xia Liang strode forward, with Peng Changye walking alongside him. The surrounding crowd instinctively parted, clearing a path for Xia Liang and giving him a wide-open view to search for materials for his next performance.
This type of impromptu magic involved a great deal of randomness and was incredibly difficult, serving as a true test of a Magician's skill. One shouldn't be fooled by the street magic performers seen in videos, who seem to randomly pick passersby to perform miraculous tricks. In reality, those pedestrians are prearranged plants, and even the spot where the Magician performs is often prepared beforehand with hidden contraptions. A situation like Xia Liang and Peng Changye's was almost unheard of.
The group left the commercial pedestrian street and began walking along the main road. Just as they reached a street corner, they suddenly spotted a simply dressed elderly lady sitting on the ground, a bewildered expression on her face. At her feet lay a torn plastic bag. The oranges she had just bought were scattered everywhere, crushed by car tires and trampled by pedestrians until they were completely ruined.
The passersby all gave the old lady a wide berth, with no one daring to approach. After all, these days, there were far too many stories of people getting scammed for helping the elderly. Most people adopted a 'better safe than sorry' attitude.
"That poor old lady. She must be heartbroken after that fall."
"I wonder who knocked her over. All her oranges are ruined. Look, I think she's crying." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Seeing that helpless grandma reminds me of my own... I wish someone would help her."
...
The onlookers following Xia Liang and Peng Changye were moved by the sight of the fallen woman and began to murmur amongst themselves. After all, everyone gets old. Seeing her either reminded them of their own parents and grandparents or made them think of their own futures.
Xia Liang and Peng Changye, however, both fixed their gazes on the old woman.
"She'll be our subject. What do you think?" Peng Changye proposed with a faint smile. "We'll compete to see who can make the old lady happy and compensate for her loss. Whoever succeeds wins."
Xia Liang nodded. "Agreed."
With that, the two men started walking toward the old lady.
As they walked, Peng Changye deliberately fell a step behind Xia Liang. His assistant immediately understood the signal and caught up. Peng Changye hurriedly whispered a few instructions in his ear, and after a slight nod, the assistant quickly vanished into the crowd.
Although Xia Liang didn't turn around, he caught Peng Changye's actions out of the corner of his eye.
