Chapter 13 - The Secrets.

Guuuurrrgglllee...

A deep rumbling sound echoes from Zi Rougang's stomach, like a hungry beast.

Xuan Wu sighs.

"We're running low on rations."

Xuan Wu comments, checking his empty bag. All that comes out of the bag is a fly.

Fatty Wang nods, his fat jiggling satisfyingly. "Maybe we could hunt a wild beast, or gather berries." His fists clench, still believing he was the one who broke the stone wall with a punch.

Zi Rougang laments, looking straight at Fatty Wang, then the still passed out Zuo Lingxin. "Not only are we running low on food, Zuo Lingxin is beginning to become a burden on us. How come she still hasn't woken up?"

Fatty Wang sighs, glancing at Zuo Lingxin's peaceful resting face. "Maybe she was too traumatised from the events at Dunespire."

Zi Rougang clenches his teeth. "Damn it, how come everyone just started burning!?"

Xuan Wu yawns. "I've been speculating about it. How come everyone started burning? If cultivators can really set an entire kingdom's worth of mortals on fire, that's a new fear added to my list."

Fatty Wang shudders, "Do you think... Sect leader can do that?"

Zi Rougang laughs nervously. "Don't be silly Fatty Wang, our sect is righteous. Isn't that right junior brother Xuan?"

Xuan Wu half-heartedly replys. "Yes, of course its right senior brother."

He nearly throws up, how come seniority is decided based on talent when you first join the sect? The way the Great Whirlwind sect works is really strange.

Zi Rougang acts nonchalant, but on the inside—he smirks, getting satisfaction from being called "senior brother"

They continue walking through the forest, the Emerald Green Forest. After exiting Dunespire Kingdom through the mirage entrance, they ended up near the outer reaches of the Byurning Yellow desert.

Before they know it, the sun lays to rest and the moon takes up his post.

A wolves lone howl is heard, reminding the group of how darkness has already begun spreading, marking the day as finished.

"Better set up camp."

Zi Rougang already begins placing the tents, with Fatty Wang helping out.

Xuan Wu sighs.

"To think so much has happened in the span of a few days... I got accepted into the sect, that bizarre secret in the illusion, going out on a mission, getting betrayed, witnessing an entire kingdom falling..."

Then he grins.

"What beautiful experience for my foundation! Plus, the flavoured qi at Dunespire Kingdom definitely affected me somehow, even with my very low grade talent, I might still reach the levels of an untrained medium-grade talent!"

Xuan Wu smiles foolishly for a couple of seconds, before turning to the tents, his eyebrow raising.

"You guys are already done?"

"Yeah well, in the minutes that you spent fantasising or whatever, we'd already built the tents. Goodnight."

Xuan Wu's face turns a bright pink, immediately rushing into a green tent on the far right of the campsite.

These tents are made out of bamboo, effective at keeping bugs out, and also a little soundproof.

Shutting the tent covers, Xuan Wu immediately lays on his back and goes to sleep.

Outside, the tents wave slightly in the wind.

Right next to Xuan Wu's green tent, is a pink tent.

Inside, Zi Rougang lays Zuo Lingxin down with a deep sigh. "When will you awake?"

He exits, leaving to guard the tent.

Black smoke swirls around Zuo Lingxin, before condensing into a defined shadow.

Bai Yu looks wearily at Zuo Lingxin's face.

"My little pink hex, it seems you've begun the activation of your true nature."

He sits down next to her, reciting his learnings from years and years of comprehension of the Dao of Curses.

"...The wolf who sleeps is not aware of the shadow next to him..."

Outside the tent, the wind has settled. Now, a light rain falls.

Zi Rougang shudders, glancing between his tent, and Zuo Lingxin's tent.

"A sword cultivator must always make sacrifices."

Staying rooted in place, he stands in the rain, still guarding Zuo Lingxin's tent.

Next to him is a blue tent, and inside, Fatty Wang lays down.

"Ahh~ What a long day, now this fatty can finally take a rest."

He snuggles warmly into his blanket.

"Free from earthly matters..."

He dozes off, falling asleep quickly in only 20 seconds.

Now, the only one awake is Zi Rougang, who currently stands guard in front of Zuo Lingxin's tent, crossing his arms as rain falls on him.

"...Sword cultivators must not falter, they must keep in line, sacrificing themselves for the righteousness of the world..."

Zi Rougang mutters to himself, trying to stay awake.

He reaches behind him and wraps his fingers around his swords handle, quickly getting into stance.

"Settling into Righteous Peak was a risky choice, but it paid off well, considering I've learnt to control my emotions better."

His eyes narrow, keeping watch for any predators.

"Rain is the best weather, as it is said that once water starts dropping from the sky, the Heavenly Dao cries tears of providence, dao, and divinity."

He continues his muttering, reciting paragraphs from the manual his Peak Master gave him.

"How profound... it seems righteousness is really the natural way."

He continues reciting, his voice slowly growing louder.

The rain starts growing harsher, the droplets hitting each tent fiercely.

Inside Zuo Linxin's tent, Bai Yu finishes speaking, paying attention to the rain falling.

"You feel it don't you? Being helpless, alone, not being able to protect your children. I understand you."

Boom!

Thunder cracks.

"In the infinite river of time, such actions are swept away by the tide instantly."

BOOM!

Thunder cracks once again, only this time lightning hits Zuo Lingxin's tent, easily being deflected away by Bai Yu's aura.

"Words are not enough. Actions are needed. Consequences will be met."

The clouds grow dark.

Outside, Zi Rougang frantically runs around.

"Fuck, what's going on with this weather? It was just fine an hour ago!"

He worriedly looks at Zuo Lingxin's tent. "That lightning was deflected so easily... is something protecting junior sister Lingxin?"

A weight is immediately lifted off of his shoulders, "If that's the case then... good."

He enters his tent, right next to Fatty Wangs, and immediately falls asleep.

The rain continues for a couple hours, before disappearing in a few seconds.

A shadow manifests outside.

"It's okay to let things out. It is not okay however, to get other people involved."

Bai Yu sighs, before dispersing. Black smoke expands outwards from where he dispersed, traversing through the entire Emerald Green forest.
