I can expand my MAGIC ENDLESSLY?!-Chapter 11: Hunting
[Nozvan Family, Underground Training Facility]
"Young master, focus and strike down at the puppet."
Kairos raised his sword. Spellzone shimmered around the blade, coating its edge completely.
Behind him was old man Kaelen.
"Now visualize the Nullification sigil," Master Kaelen spoke.
Kairos did as he was told. Around the sword, a magical circle appeared, blinking one time before his sword started to glow with a a little hint of purple.
"Good, Young Master, and now to strike the puppet, flare your mana when you’re about to hit it."
Kairos nodded what he was being taught was the flare method to converse and safe mana while having the most damage output. To him, who was one of the strongest aura users. Such things were nothing, but for the last couple of days he had to act, but now it was time.
The next swing came fast. Mana flared a breath before impact. The sword met the barrier and pierced it cleanly. For a second, nothing seemed to have happened. But then the puppet’s top half slid off. The barrier faded slowly.
A look of amazement appeared on Master Kaelen’s face, but he quickly composed himself again.
"Good job, Youngmaster. That’s how you do it, with more practice you would be able to use it on the battlefield too."
But his eyes lingered on the severed puppet. Thinking, ’Another monster has been born in this family.’
Kairos sits down on the ground, wiping off the sweat on his forehead. Despite him already knowing how to use the conservation method, the swinging he did wasn’t useless, he was also getting used to this new body as days passed.
"Young master, sit down and close your eyes. Try sensing your body and where you’re feeling weak right now." Master Kaelen spoke, putting his hands on his shoulders.
Kairos, nodding his head, tried as he was asked to. Slowly he started to feel mana within his body.
Then he felt a sensation in his heart, something was poking him. He didn’t fear he knew who it was.
"Don’t lose focus gather all of your mana on your heart, and try tracing the stick."
Kairos had already started to follow. Clockwise. Curving in, then out spiraling like a folding ribbon.
Kairos’s eyes followed every twist. His mana moved with it, tracing phantom lines inside his chest. It was the zeroth circle. One has to follow a fixed pattern with mana to draw a circle, and for the zeroth circle, he has to repeat the pattern ninety-nine times.
Kairos continued to trace the pattern, completing the cycle. Soon the first cycle done, 2nd cycle done..
And in a few moments he was already at the 6th cycle.
That’s when Master Kaelen shouted, "That’s enough Youngmaster stop circulating your at ur limit"
Kairos, hearing the voice, slowly stopped despite his body feeling he could do some more. But that was also the problem.
He opened his eyes and gazed at his hands, the veins on his hands were bulging, including the ones on his legs and forehead.
Kairos sighed again, seeing the state of the body and the frightening fact of him not being able to sense it all. It was the infamous mana influx that took the lives of many magicians.
It’s a state where the body unconditionally uses all of the mana within the body, responding to the will. And when mana completely runs out, the body pushes itself using its own life essence.
Causing harm to the vessels, including death.
And as a matter of fact, when it happens, magicians don’t feel any pain. They feel pain after the effect goes away.
"Young master, try sensing the condition of your body."
Kairos nodded. "Mana influx is an unavoidable thing for mages and has no cure." Thus, the only thing they can do is to get some sort of feeling when it happens, as that’s the only thing they can do to get a reminder, and get some resistance when it tires off.
Kairos focused, trying to understand the state his body was in. And as to be expected, this was hard, except for the fullness his body was feeling there was no other feeling. Soon the feeling fullness vanished replaced by tiredness along with little bit of stinking pain all over the body.
"Here, take this potion, Young Master." Master Kaelen handed him a low rank mana potion.
Kairos opened the cap before gulping it down. The pain wasn’t much but still it didn’t felt good.
"That was the 7th cycle, right, Young Master? You’re making good progress."
Kairos nodded. But completely disagreed. His progress was far too slow. It was just the seventh circle,it will take him a lot of time to complete the zeroth circle.
He sighed. He was struggling while geniuses like Leia almost finished their twenty cycle.
"Kairos, are you here? It’s almost time," a voice came from the stairs leading upwards.
And slowly a figure walked down, The man was tall, broad-shouldered, and dressed in a dark silk coat. The hair was black like obsidian, the same for the eyes.
Master Kaelen straightened.
"Lord Lucian."
Kairos looked up.
"...Father."
Yes, the man before him was his father, Lucian Nozvan. It’s been told he’s a commoner but to Kairos. But Kairos knew better. No commoner moved like that, looked like that, or felt like that.
Lucian’s gaze swept over the shattered puppet, then to the faint glow still clinging to Kairos’s sword.
"You’ve improved," he said simply. Then, after a pause, "Get changed. We’re going hunting."
Kairos blinked. "Now?"
Lucian turned toward the stairs. "The prey won’t wait. I’ll see you outside in ten." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
A few moments later,
"Keep your heels down, Kairos, and hold the reins tighter."
His father’s voice came from just behind him as they rode deeper into the forest. Two guards trailed silently a short distance away, eyes scanning the dense surroundings.
"Good. That’s better," Lucian said after a glance.
Kairos gave a slight nod. He was being trained in horseback riding, or at least, that’s what it looked like. In truth, he’d mastered it long ago. A former mercenary in a younger body, he knew exactly what to do. But he had to play the part of a beginner. Pretending was necessary.
Why hunting, all of a sudden? It was the only excuse he could come up with to explore deeper into the forest than usual. What he didn’t expect was for his father to agree and take him out the very next day.
As they went deeper, the huge trees above their heads enclosed them even more, making sunlight barely reach the ground.
This was the outer range of a hundred thousand mountains, known for its highly grown vegetation and monsters that dwell within it.
Kairos looked at the surroundings carefully, gazing at the claw marks left on the tree bark. Those marks indicated that they were nearing closer to their target.
"Miles, give me my bow." Kairo’s father spoke calmly as he slowly expanded his Aura zone.
One of the servants who was closely following behind them handed out his father’s favorite bow, which he always used for some special hunts, and today was one of those days.
His father was going to hunt a two-star monster called ’Ironfang Ursak.’ A beast known for its thick claws and hard fur that encloses its body, which is highly resistant to physical penetration and has mild magic resistance.
[Monsters are classified by their strength and mana density, ranging from one star all the way to the 7th star, and as for the ones who are above all of them, they are named monsters.]
The forest becomes more silent as they get closer to the habitat of the monsters. The claw marks on the tree barks were becoming more and more frequent, indicating they were just about to arrive at their nest.
And soon enough the enclosure of the dense trees gave way, revealing a shallow pit right in front of them.
"Ironfang ursak" was a species that, despite being highly territorial, likes to live together like a clan, just like Shadowflang wolves.
Lucian halted his horse and came down, putting his finger over his mouth, telling the others to not make any sound.
Kairos also jumped off from the horse and gazed at their prey in the pit below.
Many small figures could be seen all over the place, which looked like slops of meat over the whole place. Those were their target this time.
Their heads nor their claws could be seen from such a distant position, and that’s how they protect themselves while sleeping by hiding themselves using their very thick hides.
It was their prey. Of today’s hunting. He was also looking forward to it. How they deal with them. He cast a glance at the side. Especially he wants to know more about this odd-looking father of his.
