Chapter 24: It’s Time to kill

"What... what is this?!"

Kairos couldn’t make sense of it. Strange letters hovered above her head, and somehow, despite the distance, he could read every word.

Cheers uproared as Valeria entered through the gates. While the Knights and the paragon finally moved. The threat wasn’t gone yet they killed the strongest one. That doesn’t mean the lower beasts will just vanish they have to exterminate all of them.

Kairos watched the chaos the Paragon was causing, swinging its massive sword while the knights cut through the swarm.

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. Realizing he wouldn’t get any answers by staying, he shrugged off his robe, tossing it aside and keeping only the mask in his pouch.

"Staying here won’t get me anywhere," he muttered, and with that, he moved forward.

At the entrance.

Valeria dragged the wyvern’s head. Upon closer inspection, onlookers finally gasped at just how massive the beast was and how incredible her feat was. She had killed it single handedly.

"Mother, here, take this recovery potion!" Nolen called, leaping down from his horse in a hurry.

With a nod, Valeria let go of the enormous head, making several soldiers instinctively take a step back.

The head still seemed alive, as if it could snap its jaws at any moment. Valeria opened the cap, gulping down the whole potion in one go, her aura stabilizing and her fatigue gradually fading.

She scanned her surroundings before raising her voice. "The danger isn’t done yet! Everyone stay alert!"

"Soldiers, continue to patrol around the city! Knights of Nozvan, head out! Eradicate all of those damn monsters!"

Cheers erupted from the people, spreading like wildfire.

She looked at Nolen. "You head too and assist them. And... where is Kairos?"

Just as she asked, Kairos shouted out, "I’m here, Mother!"

The onlookers glanced at him, whispering among themselves. So that’s the youngest one...

Valeria nodded. "Go join Nolen. Your horse should be ready!" She turned away. "If you’ll excuse me... I need to get some rest." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Kairos hesitated, wanting to ask something, but the situation came first. "I’ll be back, brother."

Nolen nodded. "Come fast," and spurred his horse, riding out to join the others.

While the few started murmuring, ’Isn’t the young master weak and sick all the time? ’ How would he be any help?

Hearing this, one of the guards said with a smile, gazing towards the departing figure. "It used to be that case... but Youngmaster is far more than a weak child."

Hearing that, the man frowned and looked at the departing kairos. Uttering, "I see."

Before vanishing into the crowds.

________

"There, there, easy boi."

Kairos calmed down the horse, it was quite frightened. It was the horse his father gave him.

The stable owner has already prepared the horse for him. Its head was wearing black leather armor completely matching the wild black hair it had. Its hooves were also warped by metal. It was a tinker to protect its leg, and with a little bit of mana, a shield will conjure up, giving it some protection against blunt attacks and poison attacks.

The stable owner opened the gate. "The gate is open, Young Master!"

Kairos nodded. Checking himself once more and the small pouch holding a few health and mana potions and the few daggers around his waist and two swords, he was ready.

Kairos steered the ropes, causing the horse to rush out. "Let’s go. We need to slay some monsters."

Instantly from the order, the horse moved, dashing forward. The path was already done, cleared by the soldiers all the way to the gates of Nozvan.

As he passed through the people, Kairos couldn’t help but feel some sense of appreciation, or rather, some excitement. As a mercenary, he lived a life where they had to face such things occasionally.

The noble life dulled him. And now that an occasion has arrived he will fight to his heart’s content.

They passed through front gate instantly. Right away the wide battlefield and the occasional arrows rained down by soldier gasped him entirely.

The Paragon swings down its huge stone sword without care for the monsters biting down on its leg.

The Knights of Nozvan were spread out in teams of two or three, slashing down any beast that dared come close. Their mana is changing red occasionally.

They were utilizing the nozvan mana circulation technique. Kairos hasn’t grasped that probably yet. Now seeing the effectiveness in the mana usage and occasional outburst of speed, he felt interested in learning it.

Beside the knights, a few occasional explosions echoed through the battlefield. Wiping out a few dozen monsters each time. Kairos nodding

"Yeah, if this continues like this, they should be able to pass this mana surge easily."

As for the ones who are causing such explosions. Aren’t mages rather Artelarists, under his father?

In such defensive battles, mages become useless, not because they lack power. Because they lack the range needed. And even if they are able to cast spells, it’s nearly impossible for them to cast spells one after another.

But what can fire rapidly are the soldiers and artillerymen.

The soldiers fired their arrows one at a time, but when their shots stacked up, their efficiency in killing weaker monsters became terrifyingly high.

The Artelarists, on the other hand, used arrows as mediums for spells, an art that had evolved solely to fight against swarms of monsters, where explosions and piercing shots formed their core.

He could see even his father growing serious now. The artifact beside him—he hadn’t expected to see a Delta Unit here. It most likely belonged to his father.

He nodded; that was a good thing. With that, taking down strong monsters would be easy.

He looked around at the battlefield before finding the person he was looking for.

And right in the middle of the swarm of monsters was his brother, cutting them down with each swing, sending forth mana slashes imbued with the wind element.

Kairos tightened his grip on the reins with his left hand and unsheathed his sword with the other. "Let’s go... it’s time to kill some monsters."
