I Can Extract Divine Power-Chapter 108 - 91: Sealed Village, New Deceitful Object
At that, Shen Bai dispersed his Sword Qi.
The terrifying, mountain-like pressure disintegrated in an instant.
Huang Guang and Kong Fang let out a breath of relief, only to realize their backs were already slick with cold sweat.
"This level of strength is what truly meets the threshold for special recruitment. As expected, none of Lord Liu’s special recruits are simple."
"Brother Shen, it’s truly an honor to be on the same team as you."
The two did not hold back their praise, and it was all completely sincere.
Shen Bai returned Cold Moon to its scabbard, cupped his hands, and said, "Since we’re colleagues, there’s no need for such pleasantries. What matters is that we complete the mission together."
At this point, the three had a clear understanding of each other’s abilities. Without another word, they turned and walked out the door.
The Scroll was the proof that they had accepted a mission. With it, they could go to the archives to retrieve files and intelligence.
Upon arriving at the archives, the three didn’t see the head archivist. Instead, someone familiar to Shen Bai was sitting at the desk, a dazed look on her face.
"Qin Shuang? Are you temporarily assigned here?" Shen Bai asked in surprise.
Qin Shuang was pouting, looking as if she were sulking.
When she heard Shen Bai’s voice, her previously dazed eyes instantly came to life. She walked over to him and grabbed his arm.
"Shen Bai! Master specially recruited you, so you must have made a good impression on him. Could you please talk to him for me? I don’t want to stay here anymore!" Qin Shuang pleaded, her face a mask of sorrow.
Huang Guang and Kong Fang exchanged a look, having already guessed Qin Shuang’s identity.
The Governor of Fenglin State, Liu Wufeng, was a master of the Artifact Dao. The Artifact Dao involved using one’s Qi to communicate with various implements, stimulating their innate properties to produce unimaginable effects.
And Liu Wufeng’s sole disciple was none other than Qin Shuang.
Qin Shuang was currently at the peak of the Three Treasures Realm, just one step away from breaking through to the Five Organ Realm. Coupled with her special status, she was a very popular figure in the Fenglin State’s Observatory.
Huang Guang and Kong Fang knew Shen Bai was a special recruit, but they never expected him to know Qin Shuang. The way they looked at him changed slightly.
Qin Shuang made a face and said, "That trip to Shengyun County... if it weren’t for you, it would have been incredibly dangerous. Master said my cultivation is too low and told me to focus on studying the Artifact Dao. He wants me to work in the archives until I reach the Five Organ Realm, and only then can I accept missions."
Shen Bai understood. He knew Liu Wufeng was doing this for Qin Shuang’s own good. "Lord Liu has your best interests at heart," he said. "Don’t act like you’ve been terribly wronged."
Qin Shuang shook her head so fast it was a blur, like a rattle drum. "But it’s just sooooo boring."
To the astonishment of Huang Guang and Kong Fang, Shen Bai raised his hand and rapped Qin Shuang on the head. "Then hurry up and reach the Five Organ Realm."
"Hiss..."
Huang Guang and Kong Fang both sucked in a cold breath.
’Shen Bai... he actually rapped Lord Liu’s disciple on the head!’
They exchanged a look, both seeing the utter shock reflected in the other’s eyes.
Qin Shuang rubbed her head as if she were used to it, not even bothering to feign being wronged. "I know, I know. Reach the Five Organ Realm, *then* go out on missions."
Shen Bai handed her the Scroll. "Could you pull the files for me?"
Qin Shuang knew the Observatory’s procedures. Seeing that Shen Bai was officially on a mission, she stopped fooling around and went to get the files for him.
A short while later, Qin Shuang returned with a sheet of paper and handed it to Shen Bai.
"This is the file on the recent Kitchen God Festival in the Sealed Village," Qin Shuang said. "After you’ve read it, you can go investigate on-site."
Shen Bai took the paper and unfolded it in front of the others.
After reading it, Shen Bai’s brow furrowed.
"Something was different about this Kitchen God Festival?"
According to the paper, the Kitchen God Festival was usually no different from any other ordinary ritual and was always officiated by the Sealed Village’s chief.
This time, however, a Daoist had officiated the ceremony in the Sealed Village.
The officiant had changed—that was the most unusual detail.
Qin Shuang nodded. "The Observatory’s informant reported that the Daoist left the Sealed Village right after the ceremony. It was after that the offerings started to mysteriously disappear."
"Perhaps by investigating further, you can uncover the truth of the matter."
Shen Bai folded the paper, acknowledging that he understood.
The mission was urgent, so he didn’t say much more to Qin Shuang. He led Huang Guang and Kong Fang out of the archives.
Once they were outside the archives, Huang Guang asked.
"Brother Shen, do you have a plan?"
Kong Fang looked over as well.
Shen Bai shook his head. "We’ll assess the situation when we arrive. Idle talk is useless right now."
The three conferred briefly, then left the Observatory and headed for the village.
...
The Sealed Village was located in Wen County, on the western side of Fenglin State.
Thanks to its fertile land, the small village was considered quite prosperous.
Shen Bai and his companions had followed the main road, traveling at a brisk pace. With a series of sharp neighs, their three horses pulled up at the entrance to the Sealed Village.
They had not, of course, walked such a long distance.
It was Shen Bai’s first time riding a horse, but fortunately, as a Cultivator, he grasped the basics after only a moment of familiarization.
By the time they reached the Sealed Village, it was already late afternoon.
Seated on his horse, Shen Bai gazed at the village ahead, shrouded in dark clouds, and raised an eyebrow.
’There really is an eerie aura here.’
The dark clouds hung so low it looked as if a torrential downpour might begin at any moment.
An ordinary person would have simply lamented the approach of a storm.
Shen Bai, however, could sense a trace of an eerie aura within those dark clouds.
Huang Guang tightened his reins and asked, "Are we just going to go straight in?"
Kong Fang, beside him, added, "Since we have our official status, we might as well make use of it."
