I Can Extract Divine Power-Chapter 91 - 85: Killing 5 Venerable Envoys, Empty Vegetable Plot
Qin Shuang knew what Shen Bai was doing, and the shock she felt intensified.
’He’s using Sword Qi to patrol beneath the vegetable patch. Each strand is a terrifyingly sharp blade, forming a giant net that leaves no evil entity anywhere to hide.’
’This... It’s too terrifying.’
’I have to get him to join the Observatory!’
All sorts of thoughts echoed through Qin Shuang’s mind.
Just then, a soft sound of surprise broke Qin Shuang’s train of thought.
Shen Bai sheathed his longsword, his brow furrowed slightly.
Qin Shuang walked up to him, confused. "What is it? Is the anomaly so strong that your Sword Qi can’t harm it?"
She was taken aback. If that were true, this anomaly would be far too powerful.
Shen Bai shook his head. "Quite the opposite."
"The opposite?" Qin Shuang’s delicate brows knitted together. "It’s weak?"
’That can’t be right. The Upper Evil Sect went to all this trouble to create something; it can’t possibly be weak.’
"See for yourself."
Shen Bai drew his longsword.
The Sword Qi beneath the ground erupted.
Dirt flew everywhere like a shower of rain, leaving the vegetable patch in a total mess.
The patch was completely empty. There was nothing there.
"How can there be nothing?"
Qin Shuang stared at the empty patch, her clear eyes wide and her mouth agape in disbelief.
The ground beneath the patch was empty, but the eerie aura hadn’t weakened in the slightest. It remained as thick as the night sky, sending a chill down one’s spine.
The entire patch felt as if an anomaly were truly present, yet the evidence showed that there was nothing there at all.
Shen Bai stroked his chin. "This thing... it seems familiar."
Qin Shuang’s expression returned to normal, her brows furrowing slightly. "Familiar? How so?"
Shen Bai held out his hand, and a wisp of shadow swirled in his palm.
Shadow Walk, Shadow-Dispelling.
As the shadow materialized, the scene beneath the vegetable patch changed.
In the empty space below, a shadow imperceptible to ordinary people writhed and crawled like a sewer rat.
"What is that?" Qin Shuang asked.
Shen Bai waved his hand.
The shadow in his hand shot out like a sharp blade and completely devoured the one in the patch.
"It seems our opponent can also control shadows, but their ability is different from mine."
Shen Bai said coolly, "This shadow is more like a bridge, a connection. Do you understand what I mean?"
Qin Shuang thought for a moment before realization dawned on her. "You’re saying the anomaly isn’t here? The enemy is using this shadow as a conduit to absorb resentful energy, then using that energy to strengthen the true anomaly elsewhere?"
Shen Bai nodded. "Exactly."
"Can you find it?" Qin Shuang asked.
Shen Bai shook his head. "No. Our abilities are similar, but ultimately different."
At his words, Qin Shuang fell into deep thought.
Just then, Shen Bai turned and started walking away.
Her thoughts interrupted, Qin Shuang snapped out of it and hurried after him. "Where are you going?"
"Back to the County Magistrate’s Office," Shen Bai replied without turning back.
"What for?" Qin Shuang asked.
Shen Bai stopped walking. "At this point, do we really need any more evidence?"
Qin Shuang understood. "You’re going to find Magistrate Li?"
"Every injustice has a perpetrator."
Shen Bai started walking again. "It’s time to pay him a visit. Dragging this out any longer would be a waste. It’s time to settle all accounts tonight."
Qin Shuang considered this for a moment and didn’t try to stop him, quietly following behind.
The two of them left the mountain and headed for Shengyun County.
...
「Shengyun County, at the County Magistrate’s Office.」
In a room in the rear courtyard, the lamplight flickered. The jagged interplay of light and shadow looked rather unsettling in the night.
"It’s dead. They found it."
The Dark Venerable Envoy shook her head, watching the shadow in her hand vanish.
Nearby, Magistrate Li sat in a chair, reviewing recent reports from Shengyun County, particularly those concerning the Hengyun Commerce Association.
He had propped up the Hengyun Commerce Association himself. Relying on his position as County Magistrate, they had used various special channels that not only boosted Shengyun County’s economy but also allowed him to amass a considerable fortune.
The only cost was that some of the common folk had to scrimp and save.
Hearing the Dark Venerable Envoy’s words, Magistrate Li set down the report in his hands and turned up the wick of the oil lamp, making the flame burn brighter.
"What did you say? We’ve been exposed?"
In the flickering light, Magistrate Li’s voice was laced with urgency.
The Dark Venerable Envoy turned to him. "What are you so anxious about?"
Magistrate Li said angrily, "How can I not be anxious?"
"Qin Shuang from the Observatory is already giving me a headache, and now there’s this even more mysterious Shen Bai. Tell me, if you were in my shoes, wouldn’t you be anxious?"
"My cooperation with the Upper Evil Sect is all for the sake of my promotion. If I get promoted to a position in Fenglin State, your Upper Evil Sect stands to benefit greatly. You know that as well as I do."
"If this gets exposed, it won’t do either of us any good."
Magistrate Li spoke every word through gritted teeth, as if he wanted to tear the Dark Venerable Envoy to shreds.
The seductive look on the Dark Venerable Envoy’s face only deepened. "You need to understand something. Just now, the Upper Evil Sect lost five Venerable Envoys. That is a huge loss for us, too."
But despite her words, there wasn’t the slightest hint of regret or sorrow on her face.
"I don’t want to argue with you about who’s dead," Magistrate Li waved his hand dismissively. "Just tell me if you have a way to get out of this."
The Dark Venerable Envoy shook her head. "What way could there be?"
"They can’t find me, but they can find you. Haven’t you stopped to think about how they found that location?"
Magistrate Li thought for a moment. "There’s a problem with the Hengyun Commerce Association."
He shot to his feet.
"This is bad. I have to go!"
"They’ve gathered evidence! I can’t stay here. I have to run!"
With that, Magistrate Li prepared to leave the room and pack his belongings.
The Dark Venerable Envoy let out a dry laugh. "You think you can escape? Let’s not even talk about anything else. With what you’ve done, there isn’t a place left for you in the entire Great Zhou Country."
Magistrate Li froze.
The Dark Venerable Envoy continued, "Right now, there’s only one option."
