Chapter 299: Chapter 132: Future Directions for the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine

"Can I not go to the hospital and see you instead?"

Zheng Hong’s complexion had improved a lot by now, although her heart was still racing she seemed much more spirited compared to just now, and she spoke with more energy.

Earlier, she looked like someone with one foot in Yama Hall.

"Of course, did you bring your health insurance card? If you did, just give it to this guy, I’ll write you a prescription shortly, and you can go upstairs to the second floor to pay and pick up the medicine."

"Then I won’t go to the hospital, I’ll just see you."

After saying this, Zheng Hong turned to her friend: "Tell the ambulance not to come, I’ll just have Dr. Lu see me."

The woman, also a kindergarten teacher, had naturally heard of Lu Xuan’s reputation. She had thought of going to the Health Center to find Lu Xuan earlier, but had forgotten in the moment due to panic.

She nodded and called 120 in front of Zheng Hong.

Lu Xuan stood up, "You sit here for a while, I’ll come over to remove the needles in a bit."

After Zheng Hong nodded, Lu Xuan turned and left Cow Eating Grass with Ji Xiuwen.

Outside, Ji Xiuwen curiously asked, "For paroxysmal tachycardia, what medications are generally used?"

Lu Xuan explained as they walked, "Paroxysmal tachycardia can be divided into three conditions: phlegm-fire disturbing the heart, yin deficiency with fire hyperactivity, and both qi and yin deficiency.

Patients with phlegm-fire disturbing the heart generally have an internal accumulation of phlegm-heat. Agitation and liver dysfunction can cause the stomach to lose harmony. The spleen and stomach fail to transport and transform, leading to dampness and heat disturbing the heart, resulting in the disease.

Clinically, symptoms such as palpitations, chest tightness, irritability, dizziness, insomnia, excessive phlegm, dry mouth, bitter taste, yellow greasy tongue coating, and slippery, rapid pulse are common. Treatment focuses on clearing heat and expelling phlegm, calming the heart and mind, commonly using modified Rhizoma Coptidis and Wendan Decoction;

Yin deficiency with fire hyperactivity generally results from physical exhaustion or excessive blood loss, or prolonged illness leading to insufficient yin and blood, or external pathogens turning into heat that damages heart yin causing the disease. Treatment focuses on nourishing yin and reducing fire, calming the heart and mind, with modified vermillion Anshen Pills chosen;

As for qi and yin deficiency, it’s a bit more complex. Patients may suffer due to prolonged illnesses depleting heart blood, or failing to recover after blood loss; or spleen and stomach weakness failing to produce qi and blood, leaving the heart unsupported by qi and nourished by blood.

Symptoms include palpitations, restlessness, insomnia, shortness of breath, fatigue, red tongue with little moisture and no coating, and a deep, thin, rapid pulse.

Treatment generally focuses on nourishing qi and yin, with calming the heart and mind as secondary. Modified Shengmai Powder is chosen; if there’s pulse knot, use Baked Licorice Decoction; biased towards yin deficiency, use Celestial King Heart Supplement Pill; if kidney yin is insufficient, symptoms like sore waist and knees, dizziness, tinnitus, add He Shou Wu, goji berry, turtle shell, and clam shell to nourish the kidney and yin; if there is concurrent blood stasis in the heart vessels, chest congestion and stabbing pain, tongue with petechiae and spots, thin rapid pulse, add Salvia miltiorrhiza, Curcuma, Peach Kernel, and Chuanxiong." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Listening, Ji Xiuwen was envious.

They went to the same university, with not much difference in academic performance, but Ji Xiuwen felt he had attended a fake university; otherwise, how could there be such a gap between them after graduating?

One became a well-known traditional Chinese medicine doctor in Yong City, while the other still didn’t have the ability to practice solo, having only seen a few patients up until now.

When they got to the breakfast shop’s entrance, they found everything on the table had already been cleared away. Ji Xiuwen turned his head and shouted into the shop, "Boss, why did you clear our stuff? I just said I’d be right back!"

"I didn’t clear it."

Old Qi had actually seen Lu Xuan and Ji Xiuwen coming over a long time ago. He was watching from the door, and upon seeing Lu Xuan approaching, he quickly returned to the cashier’s counter and only responded when Ji Xiuwen called out.

After responding to Ji Xiuwen, Old Qi promptly brought out a freshly prepared breakfast set and, before Lu Xuan could say anything, laughed and explained, "I was just about to take everything in when I saw no one was around, it was Old Wu next door who reminded me you asked me to keep them, I’m really sorry, so I just prepared a new set for you."

Saying this, without giving them a chance to refuse, he placed the food on the table: "Rest assured, it’s all just freshly cooked and very clean."

Lu Xuan wasn’t naive; he could see the boss’s intentions, but since everything was said and done, he didn’t know how to refuse, so he just thanked him, "Thank you, boss."

"No need to thank me, after all, I did clear your stuff, so it’s only right to compensate with a new set."

The boss chuckled, "Besides, I’ve heard, Dr. Lu is out saving lives, what I’m doing is just adding icing on the cake."

With the boss already saying so much, Lu Xuan could only sit down with Ji Xiuwen and continue eating.

"Should we pay later?"

"Forget it."

Lu Xuan shook his head, "The boss has already given us reasons; if we don’t accept, it’d be too inconsiderate, and he did clear the table, preparing a new set for us is just a usual thing."

"But it’s obvious he did it on purpose!"

"I know, but the boss was flawless, so what can you say?"

"That seems to be true."

Ji Xiuwen nodded in agreement, "Businesspeople today really think fast, if it were me, I wouldn’t think of so much."

"Understanding the world comes from experience, mastering social skills is an art. They’ve just lived twenty years longer than us, otherwise, you wouldn’t think their meals come free, right?"

Lu Xuan finished his fritters and stood up, "You go start the regular meeting later, I might still need some time, help me inform the director."
