I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 753 - 651: Industrial Ship
The cultivation and production of single-cell protein is indeed a very simple matter, and the raw materials they require are not complex.
Agricultural waste, wastewater, industrial waste and wastewater, oil, natural gas, and related products can all be used as raw materials for the production of single-cell protein. To go a step further, even hydrogen and carbon dioxide can be used as raw materials.
Before the disaster, these things were easy to obtain. For those production enterprises, they were worried about how to deal with the waste and byproducts, using them to produce single-cell protein and manufacture synthetic protein meat was a perfect form of waste utilization.
But in the post-disaster environment, these things are not so easy to obtain.
Firstly, agricultural and industrial production has been devastated, with scales shrinking drastically. Agricultural waste has become valuable resources needed for essential industrial production and cannot be used as raw materials for synthetic protein.
Industrial waste is in a similar state; most waste has been recycled for reuse, and products related to oil and natural gas must first meet the needs of the national economy and people’s livelihoods, leaving no surplus for the production of synthetic protein.
This is the situation in both Europe and the Flame Country.
However, since Chen Xin proposed this idea, he naturally has his own calculations.
Although the English people gave up their homeland, having once ruled the world as the Empire on which the sun never sets, their sphere of influence once spanned the entire Blue Planet.
Even after the empire’s twilight, the former imperial territories became independent states, but these countries still formed a federation, equivalent in size to the old empire if united.
Of course, it’s impossible to re-unite these separate states. Each country still acknowledges the existence of the Federation but only sees it as an organization, not a sovereign nation.
The English themselves know this, so they do not aspire to rebuild that empire, merely holding onto the empire’s legacy to survive.
Thanks to the empire’s rich legacy, they can still bring forth many good resources.
For example, the map of Europe’s offshore oil resources.
The ocean has abundant oil resources, known by all, and offshore oil extraction was once a thriving industry.
However, now, not only have the majority of drilling platforms been destroyed by the prior disaster, but the ocean surface is frozen, the extraction sites are far from land, and there is a lack of effective transport and logistical support. Even if some oil drilling platforms can still operate, they are no longer functional, as no one dares to remain on the platforms far from land.
But for Chen Xin, this is not a problem at all.
It’s no big deal if the drilling platforms are damaged. With the system at hand, Chen Xin can not only repair them but also perform technical upgrades.
Being far from land is also not a problem; when driving on land, the Land Ship needs to consider terrain, but on the endless flat ice surface, can’t it speed up recklessly?
As for whether the ice layer can bear the weight of the Land Ship or if it will crack, that’s not a problem at all—it can fly, can’t it?
Material supply is not a concern either; the consumption of living supplies is not large, and resupplies can conveniently occur during the Land Ship’s oil transportation.
As for the food problem, it’s easily addressed; extracting oil is meant to provide raw material for the production of synthetic protein, so how can there be no food?
The only issue is the transportation of oil. In the past, oil extracted by drilling platforms was transported to factories via pipelines.
However, with the ocean frozen and most of the original factories no longer in use, transporting via oil pipelines is futile, and it’s uncertain if these pipelines still function.
Therefore, considering the practical situation, the best approach is to establish a sub-base near the extraction site, directly using crude oil to cultivate synthetic protein and conduct petrochemical production, then transport the produced goods away with the Land Ship.
For others or other countries, realizing this plan is undoubtedly fraught with difficulties and seems nearly impossible.
But for Chen Xin, all of this is manageable.
Using the resource maps provided by the English, after sending helicopters from the fleet to assess the drilling platforms’ condition, Chen Xin began manufacturing his newly designed industrial ship with the aid of the 3D printing field at the base.
This was specially designed for resource extraction and establishing sub-bases, inspired by game designs of base vehicles.
It is approximately a hundred meters long Land Ship, which can accommodate 50 people and is equipped with a 3D printing device and a complete agricultural greenhouse along with synthetic protein production facilities, offering excellent self-sufficiency for extended standalone missions.
Moreover, this Land Ship is itself a massive mining apparatus, capable of directly extracting open-air mineral resources, drilling, and manufacturing small robots to extract deep underground resources.
Extracted resources can be directly processed with the on-board smelting equipment into raw materials for the 3D printing device to produce necessary equipment or facilities.
One might say this Land Ship functions like a base vehicle from games, able to establish a relatively rudimentary industrial base with just a single Land Ship.
Upon completion of this Land Ship design, the plans quickly were sent back home, where top-level officials were greatly pleased. Not only does Europe require such industrial ships like base vehicles, but domestically, many mines and shafts abandoned due to insufficient manpower and harsh conditions also need such ships to be reused.
Compared to deploying a large workforce to restore mine operations and supplying substantial materials for support, self-sufficient resource extraction with an industrial ship saves significantly.
Regarding resource consumption due to the industrial ship’s base building, compared to the resources it can extract, it’s undoubtedly a worthwhile deal.
Thus, the upper echelon quickly adopted Chen Xin’s design, started domestic production of such industrial ships, while sending new reinforcements to the European fleet, enabling them to follow Chen Xin’s plan to expand sub-bases and acquire more resources.
Even after careful domestic evaluation and consideration, the European fleet’s diplomatic personnel, armed with a presentation Chen Xin prepared temporarily, approached various European nations’ authorities to offer this industrial ship.
After all, for the European nations, this industrial ship is extremely useful for restoring production and supporting the battle of the European Defense Line.
