I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 773 - 671: Surrender
On the bridge of the Land Ship, Chen Xin and the Captain listened to the report from the visiting lieutenant, and both of them showed expressions of disbelief mixed with amusement.
"Although we heard before the disaster that the German army had become a bureaucratic force, with significantly declining combat effectiveness, but isn’t this level of absurdity too extreme?" Chen Xin shook his head, tapping the table with his knuckle: "A whole brigade! Just seeing the Land Ship of the security forces made them surrender from fear? This is too absurd, can they even call themselves soldiers?"
Unlike Chen Xin’s worldview-shattering expression, the Captain, though finding the conduct of this German Army ridiculous, still inquired with the lieutenant about what was actually happening.
After all, he and Chen Xin were merely here to inspect the logistics and support of the frontline defenses, not to clean up local forces, so the sudden surrender of a stationed garrison truly caught them off guard.
The lieutenant was a company leader in the United Security Forces, and his original task was simply to act as Chen Xin’s protective detail, escorting him with his Land Ship to important logistics cities behind the lines on inspection duties, ensuring security.
However, no one expected that upon their two Land Ships reaching the first large city on their inspection tour, the local garrison would collectively surrender from fear of the two Land Ships.
This was considered quite unbelievable to the soldiers of Flame Country, as in the history of their forces, since the day they were established, they’ve never surrendered.
Conversely, there are abundant instances of fighting to the last man, a whole unit battling till the end, and still standing resiliently holding their ground.
So when this incident unfolded, they were genuinely taken aback.
But since the event has occurred, it must be dealt with.
Thus, upon receiving the opponent’s declaration of surrender and seeing them gather weapons and hoist a white flag, the lieutenant commanding the company could only deploy his forces to seize control of the city and manage the surrendering troops, trying to figure out what is happening while urgently reporting to Chen Xin.
Now, when Chen Xin asked, the lieutenant naturally hastened to report the situation he just clarified to Chen Xin.
"So, because of their corrupt actions, guilt drove them to think we were here to eliminate them, and to save themselves, they directly surrendered to us?" Chen Xin felt more incredulous after hearing the lieutenant’s introduction and explanation.
"That’s indeed the case, you could say so." The lieutenant nodded.
"Alright then, first accept the prisoners, control the city, maintain security, and arrange things as needed." Chen Xin also felt at a loss, for this unit had surrendered to him and confessed their actions, and if Chen Xin refused their surrender, the situation would clearly become more troublesome.
Especially since they only had two Land Ships, with merely a company’s worth of force at hand. If a fight broke out, it was uncertain whether they could defeat the garrison even with the support of the two Land Ships.
Nevertheless, Chen Xin remained cautious and did not have the two Land Ships land, instead instructing them to patrol over the city. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
This served to intimidate the already surrendering troops and city residents, ensuring they couldn’t gauge the number of personnel onboard.
After all, relying solely on a company’s force to accept a brigade’s surrender was indeed a bit stretched.
Thus, keeping the opponent unclear about their actual numbers, while dispatching a crew from the Guardian Land Ship to assist in accepting the prisoners, was the only feasible approach for now.
The lieutenant departed to fulfill orders, deploying most of the troops from the two Land Ships onto the ground.
Besides the company led by the lieutenant, Chen Xin also allocated personnel equivalent to two enhanced platoons from the Guardian Land Ship, deploying all Power Armors and Titans from both Land Ships as well, making up nearly two companies of troops.
In addition to the Land Ship’s intimidation, even if the surrendering garrison realized that the strength was less than anticipated, they dared not easily rebel.
"Chen Academician, should we request reinforcements?" The Captain asked Chen Xin.
Chen Xin slightly nodded and said to the Captain, "We should indeed request reinforcements, send a signal to surrounding security forces and have them dispatch Land Ships here. Even if there aren’t many personnel, the Land Ships alone are a deterrent."
"Understood, I’ll get right on it." The Captain responded and hastened to have the communicator beside him send out the reinforcement signal.
At this moment, the Captain felt somewhat anxious as they only had two Land Ships now and needed them to be relatively low to intimidate the ground, leaving both ships nearly devoid of all deployable forces.
If, in such circumstances, the brigade of surrendered troops below suddenly considered the Land Ships to be mere paper tigers or saw through their facade and decided no longer to surrender, the Captain felt he had no good means to protect Chen Xin.
Thankfully, this region was one of Germany’s highly prioritized areas, and numerous company units of the United Security Forces were allocated here. Upon receiving the Captain’s plea for reinforcements, most responded affirmatively and assured they would expedite their arrival.
Upon learning that other Land Ships were en route, Chen Xin finally felt some relief.
This way, they just needed to hold out until the other Land Ships arrived. Once additional Land Ships were present with sufficient personnel, even if the unit below rebelled, Chen Xin could deploy Land Ships to suppress them again.
With this assurance, Chen Xin began to study Bavaria’s map again, contemplating how to adjust the efficiency of material transport here.
However, before much progress was made, he was interrupted: "Chen Academician, a total of four Land Ships have received our distress signal and should arrive in about half an hour."
"That’s wonderful, how’s the prisoner reception going? No issues, right?" Chen Xin inquired, now filled with confidence since knowing four Land Ships would arrive.
"Currently, we’ve taken in approximately a battalion worth of troops, and the commissar accompanying the ship is selecting the more reliable personnel among them, forming groups to assist our crew." The reporting soldier responded to Chen Xin, adding, "The city’s residents who are aware of the situation are gradually emerging onto the streets, each appearing emaciated. Are we to provide them with food aid?"
Faced with this question, Chen Xin did not open the warehouses to distribute aid directly as before but said: "Keep the food stored for now, wait until all guardian ships arrive, and we’ll collectively assess how to provide relief to these disaster victims."
