I Get A Random New Occupation Every Week-Chapter 2557 - 2558: Unique Art Style
Chapter 2557: Chapter 2558: Unique Art Style
When Zhou Chengtao and the others saw what Lin Jingzhan took out, they were completely dumbstruck, their skin crawling with goosebumps.
"You—you actually have a gun!"
"For self-defense. Don’t panic, folks." Lin Jingzhan replied with a grin:
"Didn’t you say you wanted to get physical? Let’s hurry up. I’ve been busy all day and still need to sleep later."
Thud—
Zhou Chengtao fell off his chair.
In a place like Yanjing, anyone gutsy enough to carry this sort of thing around was definitely not an ordinary character.
According to Zhou Chengtao’s impression, only a handful of top figures in Yanjing were known to have possessions like this.
"Uh..."
Zhou Chengtao’s brain worked overtime, his instincts warning him that this man in front of him was not someone to trifle with. Acting rashly could very likely result in his own misfortune.
"This might all be a misunderstanding. You guys go ahead and rest. We’ll take our leave now."
At this point, Zhou Chengtao felt like dying.
His son had put him in his place, and he’d thought he could regain face by intimidating the man’s family, only to realize his father was an even fiercer character.
With his own abilities, trying to deal with him would likely be a tall order.
"Then I won’t see you off."
Lin Jingzhan had no intention of confronting these people, much like a boxing champion wouldn’t pick a fight with kindergarteners.
"All right, all right, we’ll just leave now and not disturb your rest anymore."
Zhou Chengtao felt as though he’d been spared from death and prepared to leave with his men.
But fate didn’t favor him, as Qin Yingyue spoke up:
"Just get this matter sorted out quickly. Don’t leave any trouble behind for your son."
"Uh... fine then."
Lin Jingzhan shrugged helplessly and looked at Zhou Chengtao, saying:
"I didn’t want to bother with you guys, but my wife doesn’t agree. So I guess I’ll have to inconvenience you a bit."
About five minutes later, Lin Jingzhan and Qin Yingyue emerged from the room, carrying their luggage and prepared to move to another room.
...
Ring, ring, ring—
Around 2 a.m., Lin Yi, who had been sound asleep, was jolted awake by the sound of his phone ringing.
Just as he was about to hang up, he saw it was his mom calling.
Walking into the bathroom, Lin Yi answered the call.
"Mom."
"Your dad’s been taken away by the police. Come to the hotel."
"What???"
Lin Yi’s brain short-circuited for a moment. The world’s biggest gangster boss—a man like that—actually taken in by the police? What kind of absurd plot twist was this?
"Wait for me at the hotel. I’ll be there soon."
"Keep your voice down. Don’t wake Mi Li and the baby."
"Got it."
Lin Yi hung up the phone. In the stillness of the night, Liang Ruoxu and the baby were still sound asleep.
A maternity nurse lay napping nearby, ensuring she’d wake up immediately to soothe the baby if needed.
Quietly, Lin Yi left the house, hailed a taxi, and made his way to the hotel, where he met Qin Yingyue.
Qin Yingyue was sitting in the hotel lobby drinking coffee, a magazine in her hand. She appeared focused, as though entirely unperturbed.
"What happened?" Lin Yi walked up and asked.
Qin Yingyue recounted the events in detail for Lin Yi.
Lin Yi was exasperated, actually feeling a touch of pity for Zhou Chengtao.
"Let’s not bother the Liang family about this. You handle it yourself."
Lin Yi nodded. "Do you know which branch station it was?"
"I think it was Huixian Branch."
"All right. Got it." Lin Yi said:
"It’s late. You should go rest."
With business discussed, Lin Yi left. Qin Yingyue went back to her room upstairs to rest, not giving the matter another thought.
Leaving the hotel, Lin Yi hailed another taxi and headed to the Huixian Branch police station.
By then, he already understood the whole situation.
Zhou Chengtao had been beaten up and, seeing no other option, had called the police.
Lin Yi couldn’t help but laugh; the thought of it was amusing.
Still, his dad had handled the matter to perfection.
If his dad had resisted arrest, any such behavior could have escalated the situation and drawn unwanted attention.
Doing so might have given others the chance to exploit the incident—to use it against Liang Xianghe.
What his dad hadn’t accounted for, though, was Zhou Chengtao calling the cops.
In hindsight, Lin Yi couldn’t blame him.
After spending so many years abroad, his dad had clearly lost any sense of how things worked in China’s less sophisticated circles.
In the pre-dawn hours of Yanjing, traffic was sparse, and the driver sped along. In just over ten minutes, they reached the Huixian Branch police station.
"Hello, may I help you?"
Despite the late hour, the staff on duty remained dedicated at their post by the door.
"Did you just detain someone named Lin Jingzhan?"
"We did bring someone in earlier. What’s your business here?"
Lin Yi did not answer his question directly but instead asked:
"Where is your supervisor?"
"He’s in the interrogation room."
"Take me to see him."
The staff member was about to refuse when he suddenly noticed Lin Yi showing his credentials. His expression changed instantly.
"Very well, please follow me."
Under the staff member’s guidance, Lin Yi arrived at the door of the interrogation room. The former knocked on the door and entered.
Lin Jingzhan sat in a chair, yawning as he saw Lin Yi enter.
"Who are you!"
The speaker was a middle-aged man named Wu Chunhe, whose rank insignia indicated he was the person in charge here.
"These are my credentials. I’m from a classified department in China. My identity cannot be revealed publicly, but you’re welcome to verify them."
Seeing Lin Yi’s credentials, Wu Chunhe froze for a moment.
When he opened them, his heart began to race.
Having previously served in the military, he could instantly tell the authenticity of these credentials.
But to hold such a rank at such a young age spoke volumes about Lin Yi’s status and authority.
It also clarified a number of things.
"Please wait here for a moment."
Wu Chunhe took Lin Yi’s credentials and left the room, returning ten minutes later.
Facing Lin Yi again, Wu Chunhe’s tone became significantly more polite.
He hadn’t been able to ascertain Lin Yi’s specific identity because he didn’t have the necessary clearance or authority.
But the very fact he couldn’t access this information was enough to command respect, compelling him to treat Lin Yi with utmost caution.
After all, in China, not many people were afforded such deference.
"Hello, hello. Are you here in regard to him?"
Lin Yi nodded. "He’s one of us. Your actions have inadvertently disrupted our operation. If leadership investigates later, your department will face primary accountability."
Lin Yi delivered this veiled threat, leaving Wu Chunhe visibly distressed. He stammered:
"The thing is, we didn’t know anything about this. He didn’t inform us. If he had, we wouldn’t have dared to proceed!"
Understanding the situation, Wu Chunhe quickly summoned his team to unlock Lin Jingzhan’s handcuffs in a flurry.
"I genuinely apologize for this misunderstanding."
"I can overlook this incident," Lin Yi responded, "but the man who reported this—Zhou Chengtao—do you know what kind of person he is? I’d guess people in your circle should be well aware. Are you really planning to let this slide?"
Wu Chunhe shivered, catching the undertone in Lin Yi’s words, but his expression became conflicted:
"The problem is, that person..."
