I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl-Chapter 56 – Sanctuary Under Siege
Chapter 56: Chapter 56 – Sanctuary Under Siege
On the rooftop of the base, Viktor stood still, scanning the surrounding area. His eyes narrowed as a swirl of deep purple energy began forming in the center of the base’s main courtyard.
WUUUUUUSHHH!!! CRAAAK!!
A portal tore open wide like a gash in reality. Wind burst outward in all directions. A strange aura leaked from the rift, prompting the stationed guards to raise their weapons immediately.
Viktor activated his [Appraisal] skill the moment a figure stepped out of the portal.
A small humanoid creature covered in fur, barely a meter tall. Though tiny, its body was lithe and muscular. Its face resembled a wolf, complete with protruding fangs. It held a broken, rusty sword—but its eyes radiated a murderous instinct.
[Kobold – Rank 2]
"Huh, just a Rank 2 Kobold?" Viktor muttered casually, but unease stirred in his gut.
TAP! TAP! TAP! Quick, small footsteps echoed from within the portal.
ZAAHHHH!!!ZAAAAAHHH!!!
Hundreds of kobolds burst forth! Their screeches echoed through the air, bringing chaos in their wake. Viktor instantly raised his communicator.
"Sofia! Altair! Yuki! Rina! Vivi! Yuna! This is not a drill! The base is under attack!"
Moments later, an electric burst cracked in the distance.
CRACK!!ZZZZZAAAPPP!!!
A bolt of lightning struck the battlefield, and from within it emerged Altair, his body enveloped in crackling electric aura. He gripped a twin-bladed spear, vibrating with wild energy.
"Ready for battle!" he shouted, leaping into the kobold swarm.
ZAAAP!!! His spear struck the ground, releasing an arc of lightning that fried a dozen kobolds in one blow.
Next came a gust of wind. Yuna descended from a rooftop, light as a feather. Her long hair fluttered, and in each hand she held a short dagger.
"Wind Cutter!"
WHOOSH!! SLASH!! SLASH!!
Blades of wind sliced from her fingers, cleaving into the kobold ranks trying to surround Altair. Two kobolds fell instantly, their bodies split cleanly from head to waist.
Then, the chilling sound of forming ice rang out.
SHIIIIINNNK!!CRACK! CRACK!
Yuki arrived, raising her hand high. From the ground erupted sharp ice pillars, impaling kobolds in swift, brutal strikes. Her gaze remained cold and focused.
Meanwhile, Vivi dashed ahead of the troops, standing tall.
"PROVOKE!"
Her voice boomed across the battlefield. A red aura enveloped her. The kobolds lost focus and mindlessly charged her.
"Come on, you little mutts!"
On the rear line, Rina stood beside Viktor, her white staff glowing.
"Healing Light!"
WUMMM!! A divine glow descended from the sky, mending the wounded soldiers clawed and bitten by kobolds.
But they were too many.
For every kobold killed, two more emerged. The defenders were being pushed back. Nearby buildings began to burn. Screams and spellbursts collided in the smoky air.
"We’re outnumbered..." Viktor muttered through clenched teeth. "Sofia, where the hell are you?!"
No response. He tried again.
Still silence.
"Did she forget her comm again?! Unbelievable!"
Just then, a golden streak blasted from the gym building.
WHUUMMM!!!
A golden spear spun through the air, radiating blinding light, striking the heart of the kobold swarm. BOOM!!!
A flash of divine explosion flung kobolds in all directions. The troops turned to see its source.
"SORRY I’M LATE!"
Sofia sprinted toward the fray, slightly breathless, still dressed in a sport bra and leggings. Her long hair hung loosely, damp with sweat—but her eyes were sharp as blades.
Without wasting a word, she raised her hand.
"SECRET DOMAIN: DIVINE SANCTUARY!!"
FWOOM!!! A circle of light spread from her feet, enveloping the nearby area.
Everyone within the domain felt lighter. Their wounds began to close. Ragged breaths steadied. Power surged through them.
"Full buffs?!" Altair exclaimed in awe.
"Thanks, sis Sofia!" Yuna grinned gratefully.
Sofia stepped forward, retrieving her spear from the earth. Holy fire mixed with golden light danced along its shaft.
"Radiant Lance!!"
WHOOSH!! She hurled it straight ahead, piercing through rows of kobolds. BOOM!! A ten-meter trail exploded in divine fire, leaving charred corpses in its wake.
Behind her, spears of light formed like angelic wings.
"Piercing Light!"
SHUUUUNG!!! One by one, they launched, impaling and slicing the remaining kobolds.
Sofia then spun with her spear, dancing with deadly precision. Each strike unleashed waves of holy fire, incinerating enemies around her.
SLASH!! CRASH!! FWOOOSH!!
The kobolds began to retreat—but they were surrounded. Hundreds lay dead, the survivors now panic-stricken.
With calm resolve, Sofia stood at the front, glowing in the domain’s light.
"Anyone who dares attack this home... will be erased from this world."
The entire mood shifted. Sofia’s divine domain pushed away the darkness that had consumed the battlefield. The remaining kobolds trembled—some even backed away, hesitant. But the portal still remained open—and from within came heavy footsteps.
DUG... DUG... DUG...
A large figure stepped through. Towering nearly two meters tall, its skin was rough and grey. Curved horns adorned its head. Wearing beast-hide armor, it wielded a massive battle axe still steaming, as if fresh from a kill.
[Kobold Warlord – Rank 3 Elite] Its threatening aura shook the very air.
"Ah, great. The big guy’s here," Viktor muttered, then called out, "Rina, hold the rear! Everyone else—focus fire!"
"I’ll go first!" Altair growled, vanishing in a flash, spear crackling.
ZRAAAAPP!!
But the warlord’s axe deflected the blow effortlessly. Altair was flung back, sliding across the asphalt, scorched.
Yuna sprang from the side, launching a dozen Wind Blades at the warlord’s head—only for the beast to raise its arm and block most of them. It retaliated by hurling its axe.
WHUUUMMM!!!
Yuna barely dodged. "BLOCKING WALL!" Vivi shouted.
CLANG!!
Her shield appeared just in time. The impact drove Vivi back, her heels digging into the pavement—but she held firm.
"He’s insanely strong!"
"Rina!" Viktor shouted. "We need more support!"
Rina nodded, raising her staff. "Goddess of Light, lend us your strength... Blessing of Valor!"
WHUUUMM!!
A second aura of light enveloped Altair and Yuna. Their wounds healed faster, and power surged within them.
Yuki closed her eyes. Pillars of ice erupted from below, trapping the warlord’s legs.
"Now! Cut his movement!" she yelled.
Altair reappeared in a burst, behind the warlord, plunging his spear into its back. Lightning exploded on contact.
"RRRRRAAGHHH!!"
The beast roared, flailing its massive arm. Altair dodged, but his spear cracked and he was launched away.
Yuna danced around him, forming a wind vortex before firing a Gale Burst into the warlord’s face. Meanwhile, Vivi charged forward, her body glowing red—acting as a living shield for Sofia and Rina.
Sofia, waiting for the right moment, finally acted.
She raised her spear to the sky. Golden aura enveloped her, as a beam of light descended upon her like a spotlight.
"Divine Spear: Spear of Judgment!!"
A colossal spear of pure light formed above her. With both hands, she hurled it—like a meteor toward the Kobold Warlord.
BOOOOOOOMMMM!!!
The cataclysmic blast shook the entire base. The ground cracked. Kobolds were flung. The warlord’s body, with a gaping hole in its chest, was sent flying—crashing into a giant tree that instantly toppled.
The domain’s glow slowly faded, leaving behind ruin and kobold corpses everywhere.
The purple portal quivered... shrank... and finally closed with a silent fwoooosh.
Viktor slumped forward, breathing heavily. "We... did it?"
Sofia planted her spear into the ground. "For now."
Sirens blared in the distance. Medics and backup troops finally arrived—though a bit too late.
Altair sat, battered and bruised, letting out a weak chuckle. "You’re late, holy hero."
Sofia raised an eyebrow. "Sorry... the gym is too far from here."
Yuna giggled. Vivi flopped down, patting her knees. Yuki just gave a quiet nod, while Rina leaned against Viktor, pale from exhausting her healing magic.
But their smiles faded quickly.
Viktor looked up at the sky, face tense. "This wasn’t a random attack. Someone knew we were here... and sent Rank 3 kobolds to test us."
Sofia gripped her spear tighter. "And they will come again."
