I Have a Date with a Thousand-year-old Female Corpse-Chapter 1340: Striking the Dragon in its Lair
Chapter 1340: Chapter 1340: Striking the Dragon in its Lair
A rogue standing behind the Rain Sword added, "The Necromancer King has placed most of the Skeleton Soldiers at the front, likely to use them as meat shields. The left and right flanks are made up of ghosts with faster movement speeds, and the necromancers and the main forces are positioned in the center."
"If we confront them head-on, it would undoubtedly be suicidal. However, the Necromancer King has forgotten a very important detail." Your eyes glinted with a sharp determination as you continued, "Can anyone here tell me what the Necromancer King’s most important asset is?"
"The Necromancer King is, in essence, just a Spiritual Body. Her most critical asset is naturally her physical body—Master, are you implying...?" Ig realized suddenly.
You smiled confidently and said, "That’s right. What I mean is to directly attack her physical body!"
"But... we can’t bypass an army of hundreds of thousands. Besides, the Necromancer King might have anticipated this and set countless traps within her castle," Rain Sword mused.
You shook your head and said, "Your concerns are valid, but you overestimate the Necromancer King. This malevolent woman has let her power inflate her ego. She overly trusts her abilities, which is why she didn’t bring the Bone Dragon out this time. She might have thought about the possibility of us targeting her physical body but brushed the idea off as absurd. In her mind, facing over two hundred thousand undead soldiers, we wouldn’t even have the courage to attack her rear—it’s laughable—let alone her physical body. So she left only the Bone Dragon to safeguard it."
"The bigger issue is how we can sneak behind them undetected," Nicole said, drawing everyone’s attention to you.
"Here, only White Shadow and I have the fastest speed. Naturally, I will take on this task," you replied.
"Master!"
"My lord!"
"Brother!"
Everyone shouted in unison, and you smiled as you reassured them, "Don’t worry about me; I’ll be fine. The most important thing is preserving our strength. Under no circumstances should you engage them in direct combat. If you can’t hold out, retreat immediately through the secret tunnels and wait for me in the Human World."
"But—"
"No more hesitation! This is an order!" You gently patted White Shadow’s head, smiling as you added, "Our speed, mine and White Shadow’s, is something you are well aware of. Even if we can’t win, we can certainly escape to safety."
"Master, let me accompany you," Nicole interjected suddenly.
"You’ll stay here. As the leader of an army, leaving your position for personal matters is unacceptable."
"Ig and the others are enough to handle things here. My flying speed is also fast, and I can assist you," Nicole persisted.
"I said no, and that means no. Time is running out. Set up immediately." Turning to Rain Sword and the others, you said, "Brothers, whether we come out of this alive will depend on all of you."
"Don’t worry, Brother. We’ll complete the mission admirably!"
"Good. Then let’s all get moving!" You patted White Shadow’s head and smiled, "Let’s go."
"Woo!" In a swift blur of black and white, only shadows could be seen as you and White Shadow disappeared into thin air like air itself.
"Is this truly Brother’s real speed?" Smiling Knife’s eyes widened in disbelief, his face full of astonishment.
"Master has been hiding his power all along. What we’ve seen is only a fraction of his true strength," Ig remarked, boosting everyone’s confidence significantly.
"Aren’t there people among you skilled at designing traps? I think it’s time to showcase your talents," you said.
"Of course, traps are our specialty," a few rogues chuckled.
"Stop spouting nonsense and get to work!" Rain Sword barked.
"Yes!"
By now, you were racing through the forest with tremendous speed. Overhead, the purple sun was dimming. You knew night would soon fall, and engaging the enemy in darkness would put you at a significant disadvantage.
You pressed your foot against the ground forcefully and shouted, "White Shadow, faster!"
With a sharp "whoosh," the two shadows darted forward like rockets.
"Eh, what was that sound just now?" a Reconnaissance Ghost asked its companion.
"Don’t question things you don’t understand. The Netherworld is full of mysteries. We’re just regular reconnaissance soldiers; getting overly curious could get us killed."
The ghost’s comment was indeed accurate. Not far from them, you had just slain a ghost whose curiosity proved fatal.
By this time, you were standing outside the Necromancer King’s castle. In front of you stood the massive fortress, resembling a towering mountain. The scale of the castle was truly vast, unlike any ordinary fortress. It had three towering walls!
The outermost wall stood over twenty meters tall, constructed entirely of colossal stone blocks. Centuries of wind and rain had only strengthened its resilience.
The inner two walls were slightly shorter but still appeared impressively sturdy.
The entire castle resembled a military stronghold. Between each of the walls lay vast open spaces filled with buildings—inhabited, of course, by undead creatures.
The final wall enveloped the Imperial Palace, which towered like a majestic spire, grand and awe-inspiring from the outside.
In medieval times, castles symbolized authority, and their scale determined the owner’s status and rank.
You patted White Shadow on the head, smiling as you said, "This will be our home in the Netherworld soon."
"Woo." White Shadow wagged its tail, assuming a combat stance. You hoisted Ming Ye onto your shoulder, and in perfect sync with White Shadow, transformed into shadows to leap over the twenty-meter-high wall, shooting straight towards the tower.
"Hey, what was that just now? Something black and white," a vampire asked a ghost beside him.
"Must be someone new," the floating ghost replied.
"Weren’t we ordered by the master to stay vigilant? Why are you dozing off again?"
"Sleeping helps maintain my beauty; you don’t even understand that?"
Truth be told, this ghost lady’s appearance was far from attractive, yet the vampire wore a grin of admiration and said, "Of course. Miss Nana is the beauty of our first division. Hah... Nana, tonight, shall we—"
"I’ve already got several people lined up. You’ll have to wait your turn."
"Hmph." The vampire turned away, visibly annoyed.
As you and White Shadow reached the final wall, you spotted a peculiar creature crouched by the gate. Beside it were two Dark Knights clad in black armor, their faces completely obscured.
The strange creature initially resembled a cat in appearance, but it had spikes on its back and was as large as a wolf.
Its eyes suddenly opened and locked onto your concealed position with White Shadow. Thankfully, it didn’t make a sound—merely stared at you intently.
You gently patted White Shadow, leaning close to its ear as you whispered, "Draw that thing away, and I’ll take care of the two knights." White Shadow licked your hand in response to indicate its understanding.
