Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Wing Shrimp

Thud, thud, thud!

Rogel kept hacking at the treasure chest and tried to crush it with his tentacles.

But all efforts were in vain.

This treasure chest was extremely hard, and Rogel’s full-force attack only left a few marks on it.

Finally, after a lot of effort, Rogel gave up.

This treasure chest was made of some unknown material, very tough, and can’t be broken with brute force.

At least, not with the strength of the Dark Sea Hunter.

Damn it, got to find a key.

Why does this feel so familiar?

Might as well give me a Chest Dog, at least I get something after killing it.

Rogel grumbled to himself.

With no other option, since he couldn’t open the treasure chest, he had to look at other places in the gray rock node.

After searching for a while, he made a new discovery.

Below the five passageways, there was a small gray stone formation.

In the center was a statue of a monster resembling an octopus, surrounded by five stone pillars with some unknown patterns engraved on them.

As Rogel approached, the eyes of the octopus statue slowly glowed red.

[Secret Statue—Gray Rock Node has been awakened.]

[You can now teleport to this node using a key.]

Oh? A bonfire?

This game has a lot of hidden stuff.

Rogel’s eyes lit up.

He thought that he would need to defeat the boss of this level just like in the land cave to unlock the underwater cave’s teleport point.

This bonfire feels just right.

After lighting the Secret Statue, Rogel checked the surroundings again and, after confirming that there was nothing else important, he came to the five passageways.

"Five paths, huh..."

Rogel felt a headache coming on.

If the five passageways were arranged left to right, it wouldn’t be so bad, but they were arranged randomly, with no apparent order, making it difficult.

After pondering for a moment, Rogel decided to enter the passageway in the upper left corner.

He had the Dark Sea Hunter carve a mark on the rock wall next to the entrance, and then swam in.

As soon as he entered the passageway, Rogel felt the change in the surrounding environment.

The water temperature of the gray rock node was already quite low.

Now, after entering the passageway, the water temperature became even colder.

The surrounding rock walls also underwent a change.

The previously rugged rock walls seemed to have torn off their disguise, extending countless rock spikes, looking menacing.

The entire passageway was like a cactus growing spikes inward.

Fortunately, the Dark Sea Hunter was very agile, with its six long tentacles able to help change direction at any time.

This bit of obstruction was not a problem.

However, after walking through this passage for a while, Rogel stopped.

Gazing at the impenetrable stone wall before him, Rogel furrowed his brow.

A dead end?

Unwilling to give up, he searched around and found nothing.

It seems that it really is a dead end.

Left with no choice, Rogel turned back along the original path.

Before long, Rogel found himself back at the five passageways.

This time, he chose a passageway slightly to the right.

After marking a number 2 next to the entrance, Rogel went in again.

This time, the passageway was quite smooth.

There were no obstacles in the terrain, the water temperature was moderate, and the space was spacious.

After speeding up a bit, Rogel saw what lay at the end.

A huge stone circular fence blocked his path.

(一_一:)

Rogel’s face darkened.

(╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻ Damn!

Who the hell designed these levels?

Damn it all!

After mentally greeting the person who designed this level with a few hundred friendly words, Rogel forcibly calmed himself down.

Then he approached the circular fence to inspect it.

"Wait a moment."

"I can actually get through!"

Rogel had approached with a trial-and-error mindset, and surprisingly, the gaps in the fence seemed just enough for the Dark Sea Hunter to pass.

Rogel immediately maneuvered the Dark Sea Hunter through the gap.

Just enough to get through.

"Made it through!"

Rogel was delighted.

He began to inspect the surroundings.

This was a very spacious area, much larger than the gray rock node, with not much special up top.

In the murky water, some white floating objects were suspended.

When Rogel looked down, his expression froze.

A gigantic dark brown figure lay curled up, with a hard, spiked shell on its back, deep in slumber.

Its body seemed to be about three meters long, a colossal figure for the Dark Sea Hunter!

Elsewhere, three small monsters somewhat resembling Winged Shrimp were gathered together, also sleeping.

[Winged Shrimp]

[Type: Monster]

[Quality: Boss]

[Level: 6]

[Tier: Extraordinary]

[Explanation: The shell of a Winged Shrimp is very thick and hard, which naturally decreases its agility, but... can you guess why it’s called a Winged Shrimp?]

[Winged Shrimp Guard]

[Type: Monster]

[Quality: Elite]

[Level: 4]

[Tier: Extraordinary]

[Explanation: Monsters of the same extraordinary race as the Winged Shrimp, with strong group combat abilities, but very obvious weaknesses.]

And what made Rogel gasp was that embedded in the shell on the back of the Winged Shrimp was a silver key.

"..."

Rogel’s mouth twitched.

Now he knew why there was a stone fence blocking the way earlier.

This is the boss room!

And it was very clear that this Winged Shrimp was not something that could be compared to the Skeleton Secret Witch from before.

This isn’t to say the Skeleton Secret Witch wasn’t strong.

It’s just that its weaknesses were very obvious, whereas this Winged Shrimp... the game’s hints were already clear enough.

This must be a tank warrior with high burst speed!

At this thought, Rogel felt a headache.

This was quite troublesome.

Rushing in recklessly would certainly lead to being attacked by the Winged Shrimp and its minions, very dangerous indeed.

Without any special abilities, the Dark Sea Hunter doesn’t have an advantage.

Even if he brought his main body over, it would be the same.

Should I just turn back?

Rogel pondered while stroking his chin.

After carefully scanning the surroundings again, Rogel’s eyes lit up.

Got an idea!

After saving his progress, Rogel controlled the Dark Sea Hunter to sneak stealthily towards the three Winged Shrimp Guards.

Quietly reaching one Winged Shrimp Guard’s side, they were still fast asleep.

It’s impressive how useful the Dark Sea Hunter’s sneaky passive ability was.

Rogel surveyed the Winged Shrimp Guard’s body, then aimed the Serrated Bone Blade at its eye, preparing to strike.

"Time to wake up!"

Slash!

The Serrated Bone Blade pierced deep into the eye of the Winged Shrimp Guard, reaching its head, and oozing red-streaked yellow fluid.

The sleeping Winged Shrimp Guard was suddenly attacked and convulsed violently.

But Rogel’s attack power was formidable.

With the advantage and targeting its weak point, this Winged Shrimp Guard was killed in one blow.

[Your clone, the Dark Sea Hunter, has killed a Winged Shrimp Guard, gaining combat experience.]

[Dark Concealment Skill experience increased, level up, current level lv2.]

Rustle, rustle!

The remaining two Winged Shrimp Guards awoke, moving their limbs away and emitting low, growling hisses.

Thud, thud!

The massive Winged Shrimp also awoke upon hearing the noise, its limbs hitting the gray rock with a dull thud.

[You’ve disturbed the sleeping monster!]
