I Married My Ex's Billionaire Father-Chapter 340: Unhinged
Lyse ran, not with a destination in mind, but to get as far away from Levi’s guards as she could.
At least outside she would be able to regroup her thoughts and find a way to help Lily and stop her evil aunt from casing more havoc. She was not a damsel in distress, she would not just wait around to be saved by her knight in shinning armour.
She had to find Ophelia herself. When she found her then they could settle scores.
After then, Ophelia would never hurt anyone she cared about. Lyse did not know how the outcome would be, all she cared about was that it would all have to end.
If it had to end with her death then so be it.
She hivered at the thought of dying, she was afraid.
But she was sick of not being able to live because she was hounded at every corner.
She kept to the side streets, her head down, a hoodie pulled over her dark hair. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Every horn, every shout, made her flinch. The city, once her playground, was now a hunting ground, and she was the prey.
A black SUV, identical to the ones Levi’s men used, slowed as it passed her. The driver’s window tinted, but she could feel eyes on her. She ducked into an alleyway, her heart pounding, pressing herself against the cold brick until the car passed.
She had no doubt that Levi would have everyone one his payroll out looking for her, she just had to evade them for now.
Just then her phone rang and she quickly picked it up thinking it was Ophelia but it was Ken.
Relief washed over her. then she hesitated, wondering if Ken would not turn her over to Levi.
She answered, deciding that if Ken tried to make her go back home she would just end the call.
"Ken," she whispered, her voice strained. "Where are you? I had to get out of the penthouse, I’m sure youve heard."
There was a pause on the other end, then Ken’s voice, tight with an emotion she couldn’t place. "Lyse, thank god you are safe. Listen to me, Bella and I are in a taxi. Tell me where you are. We’ll come to you. Don’t move."
He had not even questioned her or scolded her for running away and she was grateful for that, her guard lowered.
"I’m near the old market square," she said, giving him the name of a cross street. "By the old bookstore."
"Stay right there," Ken said. "We’re almost there."
He ended the call, and Lyse sank down onto a discarded crate, the adrenaline that had propelled her now leaving her drained and shaking. She hugged her knees to her chest, trying to make herself small, invisible.
A few minutes later, a yellow cab screeched to a halt at the end of the alley. Bella was out before it had fully stopped, rushing towards her, her face a canvas of worry. Ken followed close behind, his expression grim.
"Lyse, are you alright?" Bella pulled her into a fierce hug, the scent of her familiar floral perfume a brief, comforting anchor.
"No," Lyse cried. "I’m the reason that little girl is in danger."
"No you are not," Ken told her sternly and Bella nodded beside him. "That woman is unhinged and we need to get her before she escalates the situation."
"Lyse, don’t you know it’s not safe out here." Bella said in concern. "Why don’t you go back and leave Levi to deal with this?"
Just then, Lyse’s phone rang, interrupting Bella and when she looked at the screen, this time it was a hidden number.
Ophelia
She held the screen up so Bella and Ken could see. Bella’s eyes widened and she shook her head vehemently.
Ken put a finger to his lips, then pointed to the phone and then to himself. He gestured for her to answer it, to put it on speaker.
Lyse took a shaky breath and swiped to answer, pressing the speaker icon. "What is it?" she snapped, her voice a mixture of fear and defiance.
"Tsk, tsk. Such harsh language, Is that how you speak to your auntie? I can’t really blame you, I know your mother and father were not around to teach you better and that’s why you are ill mannered. I will forgive you because you are like my daughter."
"Daughter?" Lyse retorted. "And whose fault is that I was taken away from my parents?"
Ophelia chuckled.
"Maeve’s daughter is such a spitfire. I thought we were having a nice chat. I’m calling to give you a chance to be a hero, Lyse. A chance to save the little girl all by yourself. No big, strong Levi to hide behind."
Ken’s eyes were locked on Lyse’s, his expression deadly serious. He mimed writing, then pointed to her phone.
"I’m listening," Lyse said, her gaze unwavering from Ken.
"Good girl. There’s a warehouse on the docks. Pier 12. It’s called ’Oceanic Imports.’ Be there in one hour. Alone. If I see so much as one of Levi’s cars, or if you tell him, or your dear old ’daddy’ Ken... well, let’s just say the teddy bear won’t be the only thing pink in that room."
"How am I supposed to believe you have the girl and are not lying?" Lyse demanded. "I don’t trust you."
"You don’t trust your own auntie?" Ophelia said, her voice sounding hurt. "Fine, Little Lily and I have no choice than to take a selfie then..."
Ken immediatly shook his head.
"That is not good enough for me." Lyse objected. "I want to speak to her and know she is okay, no deal until then."
Ophelia’s tone went from soft to harsh.
"Don’t think you are in the position to make demands from me."
"Then I guess we won’t be seeing then." Lyse refused to back down.
There was a pause then a small voice came over the phone.
"Hello?"
Lyse looked up and Ken and Bella then spoke in a soothing voice.
"Auntie Lyse is coming for you okay Lily, just sit tight..."
The line went dead.
