Chapter 51: Security Lockdown

— Kyle Valtier’s POV —

The silence in Alpha Team’s lounge inside the headquarters of the Magical Intelligence (FBI) was heavy and nauseating, like the silence of a morgue awaiting the arrival of new corpses.

I sat in the corner, holding a paper cup of bad black coffee, watching the hands of the digital clock hanging above the massive holographic screen.

1:00 AM.

Valisera had been gone for four hours.

She said she was going to meet a confidential informant in the Golden Sector to obtain the "final key" to breach Saint Hilarious Hospital.

Normally, Valisera’s absence wouldn’t raise concern.

She was a demon walking on two legs—an S-rank entity capable of folding space and turning humans into cubes of flesh with a snap of her fingers.

Who would worry about a natural disaster?

But... the atmosphere tonight was charged with tension.

Eva Blackwood was cleaning her sniper scope with a silk cloth for the fiftieth time, her black eyes blinking with unusual agitation.

Damian was tapping his foot against the marble floor in an irritating rhythm, while Aiden was biting his nails as he stared at his tablet, trying to track Valisera’s signal, which had completely vanished from the intelligence network two hours ago.

Sia alone sat with her eyes closed, reciting quiet incantations, but the fine beads of sweat on her forehead betrayed her anxiety.

And me? I was playing the role of the trembling weak recruit, but inside, the "Black Joker" was sounding alarm bells.

Something was wrong... very wrong.

I thought, sipping the now-cold coffee. The intelligence division was unnaturally quiet.

No usual patrols passed in front of our lounge door. It was as if... the wing had been evacuated.

"That’s enough!" Damian suddenly stood up, throwing his tactical jacket onto the couch.

"I’m going to look for her. Her signal disappeared in the Golden Sector—this isn’t right."

"Sit down, Damian," Eva said coldly, without lifting her eyes from her rifle.

"Do you think Valisera needs your protection? If she’s late, it’s because she’s enjoying torturing someone—or having her fourth dinner."

"Eva’s right," Aiden added, adjusting his round glasses.

"Interfering in her affairs could cost us our heads."

And then—

The temperature in the luxurious lounge dropped below freezing in a fraction of a second.

The coffee in my hand froze and cracked.

Our breaths turned into thick white clouds.

Shzzzzzz... KRAAAAAAASH!

Space tore apart in the middle of the room.

It wasn’t a clean, sharp-edged spatial rift like Valisera’s usual ones.

It was chaotic, distorted—its edges bleeding purple and black sparks, emitting a sound like glass being crushed under a hydraulic press.

From within that festering spatial wound... something fell.

It slammed hard onto the white marble floor, rolling and leaving behind a wide, grotesque trail of deep red blood.

The rift collapsed into itself and burst with a muffled pop, sending papers flying off the desks.

We all froze. Time stopped.

"Impossible..." Eva whispered, the cloth slipping from her hand.

The person lying on the floor, gasping like a dying animal, drowning in a pool of their own blood... was Valisera.

But she was not the silver demon we knew.

She was shattered.

Her luxurious white coat, made from B-rank beast fur, was burned, torn, and stained red and black.

A deep, horrifying wound split across her left waist, emitting corrosive fumes like acid.

Her right shoulder had been pierced by a bullet that left behind a charred black hole in her flesh.

Her flawless face was smeared with dirt, ash, her own blood—and the blood of others.

She trembled violently, her crimson eyes half-closed, overflowing with raw, pure human pain.

Good God... I screamed in my mind, my crimson eyes widening.

An S-rank monster! The girl who folded space and crushed a Chief Inspector like a fly... had been torn apart! Who the hell could do this to her?!

"Leader!"

Damian screamed, his voice tearing his throat apart as he dropped to his knees on the marble, ignoring the blood soaking his pants, cradling her head.

Sia rushed forward like an arrow, her hands glowing with brilliant golden light.

She knelt beside Valisera and began channeling advanced healing incantations directly into the open wound in her waist.

"Oh my God! The wounds are saturated with corrosive Eitra! It’s resisting my magic!" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Sia cried, tears streaming down her face as the golden magic clashed with the black smoke rising from Valisera’s wounds, producing a sizzling sound like meat frying.

Eva and Aiden stood frozen. Shock paralyzed them.

Seeing Valisera fall and bleed like a human was beyond what their arrogant minds could process.

As for me... I stepped forward slowly, feigning absolute panic—though it wasn’t entirely an act.

I looked at Valisera.

"Am... ambush..." she coughed, a mass of black blood spilling from her trembling lips onto Damian’s shirt.

"Sta... stabilizers... spatial... anti-shields... red Eitra... assassins... S-rank..."

Her broken words were like bombs falling into our consciousness.

S-rank assassins?! Equipped with stabilizers that prevented her from folding space? Shields resistant to her blue flames?

This wasn’t a random attack.

This was an execution planned with surgical precision.

An enemy with resources rivaling an entire nation’s budget—and intimate knowledge of her weaknesses.

"The Volders..." Eva whispered, her pale face turning ashen.

"They know... they know we’re hunting them."

"Sia! Stop the bleeding at any cost!" Damian shouted, pressing his hand against her shoulder wound.

"Aiden! Contact Kirion immediately! Tell him we’re under attack and need a high-security medical evacuation to the safe wing!"

Aiden rushed to the central communication screen in the lounge.

His trembling fingers struck the keyboard, entering Alpha Team’s red emergency code.

But... the moment he pressed send—

Bzzzzzt!

The massive screen didn’t display Kirion’s face.

Instead, all the warm white lights in the lounge shut off, and the rotating red emergency lights flared to life, drowning the room in a blood-like glow.

A sharp, deafening alarm blared throughout the building.

"What are you doing, Aiden?! Did you hit the general evacuation button?!" Eva shouted, raising her sniper rifle.

"I didn’t!" Aiden cried in panic, backing away from the screen, which now displayed a single message in bold black text over a red background:

[ Security Lockdown. Target: Alpha Team. Threat Level: First-Class Terrorism ]
