I Reawakened as an Inferno Hero-Chapter 26: Extremats!
Chapter 26: Extremats!
Axel was tensed, and that drove his motion. The hall suddenly felt hot. A life was in his hands. He was panicking now.
With his eyes wide open, he saw the motions:
The bullet rolling slowly.
Dotted sweats all over Jeffery's face.
The shock on Dan's pale face.
The soft hum of the wind.
The shimmering portals.
The...
... Two figures in it.
Axel opened his mouth now in a shout. The wind drove slowly into his face.
And then,
Axel knew.
This was it.
Time would return to its normal pace again, and could he stop the inevitable?
Axel stretched out his hands frantically, the flames all over his body slowly going down, no more ablaze.
He had to save Jeffery.
As Jeffery had rescued him earlier.
He lunged with all the strength his body could muster.
He had come to a conclusion. He wasn't going to catch the bullet. He was going to—
Time now returned to normal.
Axel gave Jeffery a hard, tooth-cracking punch, and that sent him down.
With a somersault, Axel leapt over the portal and landed on the floor, dodging the bullet.
He didn't stop there. He knew if he did, he and Jeffery would be dead. And so, he moved swiftly and grabbed Jeffery, running as fast as he could and entering into the crowd of superheroes.
With the corner of his eyes, he caught a glimpse of them coming out of the portal.
"Damn!" Axel muttered under his breath, dropping an exhausted Jeffery onto the ground.
The portal pulsed violently now, its edges crackling with unstable energy. The swirling mass of fire and shadow expanded, warping the air around it until two figures emerged from its depths.
They stepped forward in perfect coordination, their sleek, armored forms glinting under the flickering red light. Their suits looked like they were forged from some unknown alloy, dark yet lined with glowing neon veins of energy that pulsed in an eerie rhythm. Helmets concealed their faces, smooth visors reflecting the stunned expressions of the superheroes around them.
The two figures held a weapon unlike anything seen before—high-tech rifles humming with power, their barrels lined with rotating energy coils. Strange symbols glowed across the surface of their firearms, shifting and flickering as if alive. The air around them crackled with suppressed energy, as if the weapons barely contained destruction waiting to be unleashed.
One of them tilted his head slightly, scanning the room. His visor flickered, and a deep, mechanical voice emerged from his helmet.
"Destination arrived."
The second figure lifted his weapon, the coils glowing a menacing electric blue.
"Now in the damn HQ."
Royal Cloak shouted now:
"Holy shit! These are the Extremats!"
Dan tensed. Of course, he knew the Extremats. They were one of the deadliest villains alive, always finding a way to conquer Superpolis. They resided in a sub-realm in the Khaos Realm, far away from Superpolis, not even knowing where Superpolis was.
Royal Cloak looked like all morsels of blood had left him. He turned swiftly and looked at Jeffery, a stunned expression in his eyes.
"What have you done? You have just summoned one of the deadliest villains alive!"
Jeffery could only stare back and, in a faint voice, say:
"I'm sorry, sir. It was an honest mistake!"
Royal Cloak didn't want to hear that. The whole of Superpolis was in potential danger now.
He turned to the superheroes and shouted:
"You guys are thirty-two. With Dan, you are thirty-three. I want you to take on them! Don't let them escape here, and more importantly, don't let more come out of the portal."
The superheroes nodded in the affirmative, and now Royal Cloak looked at Axel:
"I saw what you did now, saving Jeffery. You're good."
Axel felt bloated with praise. Royal Cloak telling him he was good?
Hell!

BOOM!
One of the figures from the portal shot his gun up to the ceiling.
"Enough of words," he said in a bold French-Spanish-like accent. "Let's get to work."
Axel was a little surprised.
So they wanted to fight?
He clenched his fists, and that lit him up the more.
Jeffery was now saying to him:
"Thank you for saving my life!"
Axel smiled.
"Kinda repaying a favor."
With that, he stormed forward, surrounded by all the superheroes ready to join him in battle.
Royal Cloak was shouting to the guards protecting him now:
"Close all doors! Ultra close them so no one, not even us, can get out!"
The guards pressed a button by the side of their wristwatches, and all doors were closed, locked, and 'ultra' locked.
One of the figures from the portals smiled and said:
"No. Don't do that. You'll only be wasting your energy and— and your precious time. When we are done killing every one of you, we will then burn this place to ashes!"
Axel's bravery instantly left him.
'Do what?!' he thought.
He had to whisper to Dan, who was by his side:
"Tell me they're bluffing."
Dan's face was stern.
"No, no, they're not."
Axel sighed. This was sure going to be tough.
The figures sauntered forward a bit, their hands clenching their guns very hard, their faces unseen, but Axel could tell that it was tough and stern.
"Who's ready to die first?" one of them asked.
No one moved. They were all scared as hell. Stepping against these villains was a death call, and well, they weren't ready to die yet. No one in the hall was ready to.
Royal Cloak, from where he stood, was shocked at their disposition. He had to sigh. They were surely dead.
But then—
SWOOSH!
Molten Vigil was forward now, in a very swift motion, sending lava fireballs looking from his hands towards the villains.
Everyone held their breaths at his bravery, but then—
CRIKK - KK - MM
The cracking of bones.
Axel's eyes were wide open.
One of the Extremats was holding Molten Vigil by the neck, squashing his bones. Doing so, Molten Vigil was on fire, and then they could only see his skeleton, which soon disengaged and fell to the ground.
The superheroes gasped, except Royal Cloak, who looked very pale.
In this situation, being doomed was an understatement.
Axel had to, due to shock, release the fart he hadn't known he was holding.
