I Reawakened as an Inferno Hero-Chapter 65: Departure
They all looked at Chrysa, who remained indifferent but was almost shocked by the way they stared at her, like she had just announced the end of the world.
"Where do you think will be more safe?" Axel asked.
Chrysa shrugged.
"I don’t know," she said. "That’s why you guys come in—we decide together."
They all exchanged puzzled looks, not knowing exactly where to pick.
Chrysa sighed and said:
"They’ve set a particular date. And don’t ask me how I know. But from what I’ve researched, it seems that they are waiting for something that’ll activate the portal."
Axel stared at her more intently now, cogitating on many possibilities. If this was true, then his assumption of them activating the portal in the sky would be true.
But what were they waiting for?
Chrysa seemed to be reading his thoughts.
"I have a system that can dig back history and all, and to do so, I have to put a piece of what needs back-digging. And so, I tore a piece of the monster’s skin and put it in the device, which showed me their history."
She paused and looked at Voidbreaker, expecting him to complain, but no, he was seemingly immersed in her words. He didn’t seem it necessary to interrupt.
"What I saw was, well, what Royal Cloak had already told us—of how they were once superheroes and blah, blah, blah. But then, I saw something."
She paused intentionally and stared right into their faces. Her mouth twitched into a slight smile. Her gaze passed over Axel, Spinal Edge, Voidbreaker, Henry, and then...
At the ceiling, like she was also talking to the artificial intelligence of the Realm Plunger.
Chrysa suddenly smiled and said:
"Don’t get me wrong. I’m not some kind of all-knowing being who knows all things. The Realm Plunger’s system also played a big part in helping me process my information."
Voidbreaker was peeved now, with her drifting away from the main thing she was saying and trying to stretch some kind of ’DAMN’ (to him) suspense.
"C’mon!" he said, this time not hitting his hand on the table.
"Go on already. Done with the suspense. Weren’t you the one who said we didn’t have much time?" Seeing that he might be rude, he had to add:
"Please."
Axel looked at Voidbreaker and then at Chrysa.
"For once, I’ll have to agree with him on this one. We’re short of time."
Chrysa couldn’t hold back her laughter.
"Damn, I should start writing a novel. I’d be so good at suspense," she said.
Axel smiled, trying to at least show that he was amused, unlike the others who just stared at her, not taking in the joke.
"The thing they are waiting for is the crepuscular twilight."
That didn’t quite go in with Axel.
"Crepuscular twilight? Isn’t that literally the same word?" Axel asked. "Or am I mistaken?"
"In a way, you’re right," she said. "But now, it means quite different things even though they are the same."
Walking over to the screen, she clicked it and just kept on clicking. The act seemed obscure (not that it actually was) to the people who were staring at her.
Done with her click, click, some words appeared on the screen, and then she read it to her audience, acting like a teacher teaching her students.
"What’s the meaning of crepuscular? Well, according to the artificial intelligence of the Realm Plunger, crepuscular refers to something related to or resembling twilight, which is the time period around dawn or dusk when the sun is below the horizon and the sky is partially lit."
Chrysa then raised her hand, halting Axel, who had planned to say:
’I told ya!’
"And twilight? Well, according to the artificial intelligence of the Realm Plunger yet again, twilight is the time period around dawn or dusk when the sun is below the horizon and the sky is partially lit, creating a soft, warm, and often mystical light."
Chrysa paused and then lowered her voice slightly, saying:
"Now, are twilight and crepuscular the same?"
She clapped.
"Well, according to the artificial intelligence of the Realm Plunger, no, ’crepuscular’ and ’twilight’ are not exactly the same thing.
’Twilight’ refers to the specific time period around dawn or dusk when the sun is below the horizon and the sky is partially lit.
’Crepuscular’ is an adjective that describes something related to or resembling twilight.
In other words, twilight is the actual time period, while crepuscular is a descriptive word that evokes the qualities of twilight." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Chrysa smiled now.
"I’m a genius, you know."
Axel looked at her, surprised by her sudden playful nature. She now acted in an eccentric manner, and Axel liked it. At least she was showing her true self. Well, they all were now—unlike before back at Superpolis, where they all acted like strangers and like they didn’t know each other.
"Damn!" Voidbreaker said with a smile, almost a laugh, actually. "You must have had a good childhood with tech teaching and stuff. I must say, I’m impressed."
Chrysa only smiled.
"I guess."
"I mean, she’s good. Without her, you guys would probably be goners on this mission."
"Yes," Mirrormeld finally decided to speak. "It’s like Royal Cloak sent us unprepared."
Chrysa countered that.
"He did send us prepared. We actually had a plan, remember? The only reason we are scraping it is because we were betrayed, and so we had to change and kinda start over."
Mirrormeld remained silent again.
"So what’s the plan?" Axel asked.
"We split into two," Chrysa said. "I’m not dictating we do so, but I’m only saying so based on our current situation. We each head to different directions."
"Which are..." Spinal Edge asked.
"The West is seemingly deserted and the East not. We can’t go to the sky because, well, it’ll be pretty obvious. So, that leaves us to the North and South."
She inhaled and exhaled and then said calmly:
"We split into two groups as I’ve earlier said. I and Axel to the North because it’s cold and freezing, so with Axel’s superpowers, it wouldn’t be a problem. Also, I can switch the mode of my suit to make it warm—towards hot—making me able to survive there. And as for you guys, the South is hot, so I think you can be able to survive. Now, our reason for splitting up is because the Monseryan monsters will apparently suspect something fishy if we go in large numbers."
She stopped and looked at their reactions.
Well, silence, and then—
Axel thought.
Why the two of us?
