Chapter 617: A Sea of Arrows

Adam’s veins throbbed on his forehead as he watched the two fools lunge at him. Even worse, twenty core disciples followed their charge, their faces contorted into vengeful grimaces and their forceful stomps reverberating in the tomb.

Though he somewhat understood their feelings and perhaps even their readiness to act on suspicions, he couldn’t help but click his tongue. Not because of their frustrating accusations nor their numbers but because he would have preferred to teach Ye Feng his place in a duel.

His eyes narrowed, and his lips curled into a smirk as the disciples collapsed on his barrier. ’Well, I can just put the weaklings to sleep.’

Before he did, Misha tapped his shoulder. "I hope you’re not planning to monopolise all the fun."

Her skin thickened into a lustrous dark armor reminiscent of chitin plates as she raised a playful thumb. "Leave the core and inner disciples to me."

"Sure, but don’t kill them if possible." Adam glanced at Xie Lian’s trembling figure as he summoned his somber blade. "Try to stay around. She’s not ready to fight so many cultivators on her level."

With a snap of his fingers, the wall-like barrier protecting them curved and condensed into a blinding sphere that wrapped the woman.

Misha nodded as the barrier retreated before dark tendrils weaved themselves around her face. They hardened into a helmet, leaving a thin line to let the golden glow of her eyes filter and a hole behind from which her hair swayed in a ponytail as she crouched with the elegance of a panther.

The moment the barrier fully retreated, she thrust her palm at the wrathful disciples.

Soft gales erupted with the strike’s pressure in a display of a weak cultivation realm. Yet, they all paled as the blast pushed them back.

"That kid’s physique is on par with ours!" One gasped, horrified by Misha’s raw might. By how much would she surpass them once she got to their level if she was that strong as a weak cultivator?

"Kill her!" They roared in unison, their blades whistling and their Qi techniques making the air crackle with elements.

But Misha’s eyes sparkled mischievously instead of widening. Like a leaf carried by the wind, she leaned gracefully in the middle of a hail of blades.

To the disciples’ despair, not a single strike grazed her armor. The elements didn’t help either. Instead, an invisible force seemed to deflect and scatter them into energy wisps, as if she were a magnet of the same pole.

"What is happening?!" A disciple shuddered as he locked eyes with her. He recognised this gaze, the one of a mocking predator playing with mice.

Meanwhile, Adam grinned even as the ground caved beneath his feet in a cacophony of cracks. ’Worth the million sect points worth of materials I forked to enchant her necklace.’

Though it protected her against energy, it was unfortunately limited to a tier-five’s strikes. Energy beyond that level became too pure to be stopped by mere enchantments, to his disappointment. Still, it was enough to serve its purpose.

"Where are you looking in the middle of a fight? Die!"

Ye Feng’s roar sliced through his thoughts, forcing his focus back on his adversary’s whistling blade.

As elegantly as Misha, he leaned back, the purple lightning arcs sizzling around Ye Feng’s sharp blade dancing a centimeter above his eyes.

Xian Yunxu swung her edged fan a split second later. It cleaved through space, a thin, dark line following the weapon’s trajectory toward his neck.

Amused, he winked at her as his own sword drew an upward arc, leaving a frozen trail and three afterimages in its wake.

CLANG

The collision’s pressure sent a raging gale outward as they locked gaze for a second.

Then, Xian Yunxu’s eyes constricted as the afterimages suddenly deviated from the sword’s trail. Like shadowy beasts, they shot in her direction, leaving her no time to think.

Surprisingly, she snapped forward in a counterattack as they carved three deep bloody gashes on her slender legs. Muffling the pain under the light of imminent victory, her left palm pulsed with spatial Qi.

It blurred and crashed on Adam’s nose, engulfing his face in a spatial distortion and drawing a dark mark on his pristine skin. "Hahaha! You’re not acting cocky anymore vile magus spawn? Warn your master before your head bursts: the earthlings will avenge Prometheus and shred his wicked soul to pieces!"

Ye Feng grinned, his blade crackling like a lightning strike to behead Adam from behind. "You dared scheme against us with that insignificant strength? Wait for me in your magic world. I’ll surpass Prometheus and slice your throat myself."

Yet, Adam gripped Xian Yunxu’s hand with a smirk as a loud crack reverberated.

Ye Feng cursed and leapt back as the frozen trail from Adam’s swing exploded into a rain of jagged spears.

As he repositioned himself and crushed them with the added distance, Xian Yunxu roared in agony as Adam utterly shattered her left arm’s bones with a vibrational discharge.

The frozen spears exploded into a crystalline mist under its influence.

"Insignificant?" Mana blazed in his eyes as he plunged his blade into her shoulder. "You mean the both of you?"

"Argh!"

"Xian Yunxu! Hold on!" Ye Feng charged to rescue her.

However, the ground burst upward before his feet. The air evaporated, and the tomb took an orange sheen as magma erupted into a fiery pillar between them.

Simultaneously, a transparent sphere spread outward from Adam’s buzzing blade. Golden chains wrapped around it, locking Xian Yunxu in a temporal stasis.

Then, he dropped her to the ground and turned to Ye Feng. "I didn’t even show you half my strength yet." A feral smirk split his face. "You’ll surpass Prometheus? Hahaha! That arrogant mouth needs a good slapping."

The pillar faded with a snap of his fingers as a hundred arrows condensed behind him. Another hundred joined them, then another, each sparkling with a different element in a soul-chilling spectacle.

Ye Feng’s pupils constricted as they reached several thousand in the blink of an eye and began to spin. Gales shrouded them in raging robes of sharp winds with a deafening sawing noise.

But his eyes quickly narrowed into slits. Xian Yunxu was still alive and, honestly, he preferred to fight alone. After all, her movements hindered him since they had never fought together. As for the arrows? Even in the thousands, what could mere projectiles do to him?

"I’ll show you why I’m ranked first, bitch."
