Chapter 70: Chapter 70: The Abyssal Breach

Lucifer stepped off the shattered windowsill of the Royal War Room.

He plummeted toward the burning streets of the Sanctum of Solaris. The wind whipped past his dark armor.

The Eclipse Convergence covered the capital in a dull, gray twilight. Far below, the white marble streets were filled with chaos.

A massive purple rift tore through the air directly above the main market square.

[System Warning: Void Breach Detected.]

[Hostile Entities Spawning.]

Monsters poured out of the tear in reality. They weren’t undead or normal beasts, they were Void Crawlers: huge, six-legged creatures covered in sharp black armor.

They had no eyes, just wide mouths filled with rings of razor-sharp teeth. They moved fast and unpredictably, climbing buildings and attacking the panicked citizens.

A group of fifty Royal Guards in polished silver armor tried to hold a barricade across the market street. They were Level 25 soldiers and completely outmatched.

A massive Void Crawler jumped over their shield wall. Its heavy legs crushed three guards instantly.

It snapped its jaws, killing a man before he could even lift his halberd. The line broke, and the Royal Guards turned and ran, abandoning the barricade.

He aimed directly for the center of the market square. He channeled his Void Arcanist magic into his heavy iron boots.

He reversed the space around his body, sharply increasing his weight and falling speed. He turned himself into a living meteor.

BOOM.

Lucifer hit the cobblestone street with the force of a siege weapon.

A powerful wave of force burst out from where he landed. The cobblestones shattered, leaving a huge crater.

The impact slammed into the swarm of Void Crawlers attacking the Royal Guards.

The monsters shrieking in the square were violently thrown into the air, their black chitin cracking under the sudden gravitational pressure. Dozens of them slammed into the surrounding stone buildings, turning into smears of dark purple blood.

Lucifer stood up slowly in the center of the dust and debris.

He drew his longsword. The Carnage Core at his side, already filled with death energy from the Scourgelands, flared with a bright, violent red light.

The surviving Void Crawlers turned their blind, gaping maws toward him, their six legs clicking rapidly against the ruined street as they charged him simultaneously.

Lucifer did not take a defensive stance.

He lifted his left hand, his swirling void-like eyes fixed on the oncoming wave of black armored creatures.

A streak of deep cosmic purple light slammed into the street right beside him.

Elara landed. She landed with lethal grace. Her new Mythic Void-Weave armor shifted and flowed like liquid shadow, absorbing the ambient gray light of the eclipse.

Her wings of Twilight energy flared open to their maximum span, casting a terrifying, dark glow over the crater.

She tightened her grip on her celestial spear. Its golden glow had vanished, replaced by a burning violet flame, unstable and fierce, radiating both holy power and raw destruction.

"Clear the square," Lucifer ordered smoothly.

Elara lunged.

Her new Tier 4 Mythic status made her incredibly fast, turning her into a blur of dark energy and violet flame. She didn’t bother blocking the Void Crawlers. Her Void-Weave armor had spatial phasing, letting her become semi-intangible as a massive Crawler snapped at her, its teeth passing right through her.

Elara spun, driving the violet-flaming tip of her spear through the side of the beast’s skull.

[Hostile Eliminated: Void Crawler (Level 40)]

Elara didn’t slow down. She cut through the swarm in a fast, violent path, her twilight wings carrying her in sudden bursts of speed the monsters couldn’t follow.

Lucifer stepped into the fray.

He swung his longsword in wide, horizontal arcs. The ruby-red True Damage sliced through the thick black chitin of the Void Crawlers as if it were parchment.

He decapitated three monsters with a single swing. He sidestepped a lunging beast, his iron gauntlet grabbing one of its six legs.

He channeled a microscopic Gravity Crush directly into the joint. The leg snapped with a sickening crunch.

Lucifer ripped the severed limb off and drove his red blade through the screaming monster’s chest.

The Carnage Core pulsed hungrily, drinking the high-tier Abyssal energy.

A massive shadow fell over the square. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

The purple rift above them widened. A massive mass of dark purple tentacles and sharp teeth forced its way through the tear. It was a Void Behemoth, a Level 55 siege creature meant to destroy cities.

Its enormous size made nearby buildings crack and groan as its tentacles wrapped around stone pillars.

"It’s dropping!" Elara yelled, ripping her spear out of a dead Crawler and looking up at the sky.

Lucifer did not look up. He sheathed his longsword.

He reached into his dark leather tunic. He unhooked the heavy platinum medallion of the Grand Marshal, the highest military authority in the human kingdom.

He held the badge high in the air.

"System," Lucifer roared. His voice cut entirely through the shrieking of the monsters and the crumbling of the city.

[Target Acquired: Grand Marshal Medallion (Royal Artifact)]

"Activate Conscription Right," Lucifer commanded.

He channeled his Archmage-level mana into the royal badge. He didn’t just draft the scattered, panicked Royal Guards in the immediate area. He pushed the Warlord aura and the Grand Marshal’s legal authority across the entire Sanctum of Solaris.

[System: Conscription Right Activated.]

[Broadcasting Command Sigil...]

[Targeting: All allied/neutral military units within City Limits.]

[Effect: Forcible drafting into Warlord’s Command Structure. Grants immediate tactical link to Supreme Commander.]

The platinum medallion flared with a blinding, golden light that pierced the thick gray twilight of the Eclipse.

Across the burning capital, every surviving Royal Guard, city watchman, and terrified militia recruit suddenly felt an overwhelming pressure settle over them.

The chaotic orders from panicked commanders disappeared. In their place, a single unified tactical network flooded their minds.

Lucifer’s voice echoed in the head of every soldier in the city.

"I am Grand Marshal Lucifer of Obsidian," the voice thundered. "The Royal Army is dissolved. You fight for me now. Abandon the outer walls. Converge on the central market square. Form a perimeter."

The effect was instantaneous.

Thousands of Royal Guards who had been fleeing suddenly stopped. The system’s Conscription Right cut through their panic, overriding it completely.

A clear command structure locked into place, giving them a single focal point and direct coordination.

They turned around. They gripped their halberds. They began marching toward Lucifer’s position.

But Lucifer was not waiting for the infantry to save him from the falling Behemoth.

He pointed his iron gauntlet straight up at the massive, tentacled monstrosity tearing through the sky.

"Lyra!" Lucifer commanded over his personal comms rune.

The Dawn Saintess was still standing in the shattered Royal War Room, high above the battle.

She didn’t hesitate.

Lyra ran to the edge of the shattered window. She raised both of her bare hands toward the sky.

"Sunburst," Lyra whispered.

She released the full, unrestrained holy power of the Dawn Saintess.

A blinding, impossible pillar of pure, white sunlight erupted from her hands. It shot out of the high tower, cutting through the ash-gray twilight like a physical blade.

The concentrated holy magic struck the Void Behemoth squarely in its massive, tooth-filled maw just as it fully emerged from the rift.

The impact was catastrophic.

The Level 55 Abyssal siege monster shrieked in absolute agony. Holy magic was the direct, lethal counter to pure Void energy.

The blinding white light did not just burn the Behemoth; it triggered a violent, chain-reaction of internal purification.

The massive tentacles thrashed wildly, crushing the roofs of the surrounding buildings, before the monster’s entire body rapidly turned to white ash.

The Behemoth disintegrated in mid-air, raining down harmlessly over the market square.

Down in the square, Lucifer lowered his hand.

Elara stood beside him, her violet-flaming spear lowered at her side. The square was clear of Void Crawlers.

The sound of marching boots echoed down the avenues.

Thousands of heavily armored Royal Guards, their silver armor stained with soot and purple blood, poured into the market square from every side street.

They had answered the Conscription call. They formed a massive, circular perimeter around Lucifer, their halberds raised defensively against the sky.

They didn’t look at him with the contempt nobles usually showed a rogue Warlord. They looked at him with desperate relief instead. He had brought order to the chaos and formed a stable front line.

A heavy, gilded carriage, pulled by four terrified white horses, careened wildly down the main avenue and skidded to a halt at the edge of the guard perimeter.

Archbishop Zerathis burst out of the carriage.

The corrupt Church official was a mess. His immaculate white and gold robes were torn, and his jewel-encrusted staff was missing.

He looked around the ruined, ash-covered market square, his eyes wide with horror as he saw the shattered buildings and the dead Void Beasts.

Zerathis spotted Lucifer standing in the center of the crater.

"High Inquisitor!" Zerathis screamed, scrambling over broken cobblestones. He pushed past the Royal Guards, ignoring all protocol. "The Cathedral is under siege!

A huge rift opened above the High Altar! The paladins are holding the nave, but the holy wards are failing! You must bring your angels! You must protect the Church!"

Lucifer turned his void-swirling eyes toward the frantic Archbishop.

"I am not a High Inquisitor anymore, Zerathis," Lucifer stated coldly. He tapped the platinum medallion on his chest. "I am the Grand Marshal."

Zerathis froze. He stared at the royal badge. He realized instantly that the King had surrendered the entire kingdom’s military authority to the Warlord.

"But... but the Cathedral!" Zerathis stammered, pointing a shaking finger toward the golden dome in the distance.

Smoke was beginning to rise from the holy structure. "The relics! The gold! It will all be lost to the Abyss!"

"It is already lost," Lucifer replied smoothly.

He didn’t draw his sword. He stepped closer to the Archbishop.

"The Church hoarded its wealth while the border towns burned," Lucifer said, his voice a low, dangerous rumble that carried the crushing weight of his Level 50 core.

"You sold healing potions to the highest bidder. You kept the Saintess in a cage. I bought your armory, Zerathis. I bought your angels. The Lumina Order has nothing left that I need."

Zerathis’s face turned completely pale. "You... you are abandoning the Grand Cathedral? You are letting the holy seat of the kingdom fall?"

"I am letting a tactical liability burn," Lucifer corrected him.

He turned his back on the Archbishop. He looked out over the thousands of conscripted Royal Guards forming the perimeter.

"Hold this square," Lucifer commanded the troops. His voice echoed across the ruined market. "If a Void Beast steps out of a rift, put a halberd through its skull. The real war is not being fought in this city. I am leaving."

He tapped his comms rune, connecting directly to his forces holding the Citadel of Obsidian.

"Isolde," Lucifer ordered. "The King has surrendered the army. The capital is breached. It is time."

"I hear you, Warlord," the Winter Sovereign’s voice crackled back, filled with dark, draconic excitement.

"Lift the mountain," Lucifer commanded.

He looked up at the ash-gray, eclipsed sky. The Sanctum of Solaris was going to fall. But Zephyria was going to rise.
