I Reincarnated as the World's Worst Healer-Chapter 78: Another Kingdom, Same Problems (2)
The group fell silent for a second when they saw Veronica behind them, the cat girl who had helped them some time ago.
"And those faces? Aren’t you going to say hello?" Veronica asked, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow.
"Veronica!" Ebony shouted before stepping closer and offering her hand in greeting. The blonde was not the most affectionate one in the group.
Unlike Daniel, who jumped forward to hug the cat girl, taking the opportunity to feel her fluffy chest.
Veronica, annoyed, threw him to the ground before taking Ebony’s hand. Lucian, standing behind her with a smile, said:
"Veronica, I’m glad to see you safe and sound, but what are you doing here? You’re far from your usual trade routes."
"Well... it’s... a long story. Never mind, why don’t you ask what you’re doing here instead," Veronica said while sitting on Daniel’s body as punishment for hugging her so suddenly.
"Well, we—"
"We have to deliver a necklace to Sapphire Port, the same one you carried to Black Sun Village, though the payment is better, hehe," Ebony said in a boastful tone with a confident smile.
"Really? That’s... that’s good. But then you’re heading to Sapphire Port. So how about we travel together? I need to go there too," Veronica said with a slight smile.
And so the group returned to the road, continuing their journey along the dirt path while the snow slowly fell.
...
After several hours of walking, the group ended up resting beside the road, sitting on rocks next to a dense forest covered in snow.
"So you fought a Warrior Monk and a damn Dark Elf... What the hell..." the cat girl said, surprised by her friends’ achievements as she rested her chin on her hand.
"Yeah, it was very difficult to defeat each of them... Especially that stupid elf. If it hadn’t been for the leader of the hunters and the lord of the lake, we wouldn’t have managed it," Lucian said with a relieved smile as he remembered how each danger had been overcome.
"Actually, if you want to see it..." Ebony started searching through her backpack until she pulled out Luther’s head, the dark elf’s. "Ta-da!"
"What the hell!?" Veronica said, jumping away instantly like a startled cat. "Wh-why do you have that?"
"Ah, come on. I know it looks bad, but I’m taking good care of it. It doesn’t smell or anything... Well, maybe its magic smells, I have no idea," Ebony replied while scratching her chin.
"Yes it does! That thing is dangerous! You should have buried it!" said the dark-skinned girl while hissing nervously.
"Or come on, actually I could—"
"Enough, Ebony. Put it away. Veronica doesn’t like it, so respect that," Lucian interrupted with a serious look, because the blonde, as careless as always, had been about to reveal her powers.
Even if Veronica was an ally or a friend, the kingdom’s law magic could force her to kill them if she realized the blonde was a Visitor from another world.
After that awkward moment the group returned to the road. The farther they moved away from the border, the more the snow began to disappear.
Until, just as night was approaching, they reached a small town. They didn’t even bother to ask the name of the place, they were too tired for that, so they went to an inn looking for shelter.
"Good evening, miss. Could we have five rooms, please?" Ebony said as she approached the front desk, where a blonde girl was attending the place. She had very prominent breasts, and Ebony couldn’t stop looking at them.
"Good evening. I... umm... I’m afraid we only have two rooms available," the receptionist replied.
"Yeah... okay... that’s a shame..." Ebony couldn’t focus while she kept staring at the girl’s assets.
"Excuse my companion, she suffered a blow to the head. Please, we’ll take the rooms," Lucian said while pulling Ebony away from the desk.
"Alright... (He’s very handsome...)... That will be 2 silver coins per room," the receptionist said, her cheeks blushing.
After paying the price, the group climbed the stairs looking for their rooms. But when they reached the second floor, Veronica watched with surprise as Ebony, without hesitation, was about to sleep in the same room as the boys.
"Ebony... where are you going?" the cat girl asked.
"Huh? Well, to sleep I guess, though we haven’t had dinner yet," Ebony said while scratching her chin.
"That’s not what I meant. What I’m saying is... why are you going in there with them? They’re boys, you can sleep with me... (Poor thing, I can’t imagine what that kid might try to do to her)"
Veronica thought as she saw Daniel yawning, but he returned her gaze with a wink in an awkward attempt at flirting.
"Really!? Awesome!" Ebony said as she ran over to Veronica, hopping with excitement.
Daniel, with an incredulous expression, watched the girl walk into Veronica’s room. But moments before the door closed, Ebony stuck her head out and, sticking out her tongue, mocked the boy.
And so Ebony ended up in Veronica’s room, where there was only one bed to sleep comfortably.
"Umm... well, then should we decide who sleeps in the bed with a game, or flip a coin?"
"What are you talking about, Ebony? We can both sleep together. This bed is pretty big," Veronica said while dropping her backpack and stretching her body.
Blushing, Ebony watched as the cat girl took off her coat and leather boots, since she hadn’t been alone in a room with another girl in several years.
Ebony sat on the edge of the bed with her back to the cat girl. For a moment she glanced over her shoulder, seeing the cinnamon-skinned woman beginning to remove the bandages that covered her chest. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Immediately the blonde looked away. She felt embarrassed watching her friend undress. However, at that moment a memory crossed her mind.
That situation was so similar to the first time she met her girlfriend in her past life that she couldn’t help remembering her.
Instantly her excitement faded. Her expression turned sad. It didn’t matter if she was in the same room as a beautiful girl with cat ears and white hair, it didn’t matter how large her breasts were or how slender her figure was... it wasn’t her.
"Hey Veronica... can I ask you something?" Ebony said, trying to hide her sadness.
"Go ahead."
"Well... do you think someone can forget a love from the past?... I mean, one that truly marked your life... but slowly faded away because of small decisions until nothing was left..." the blonde said, lowering her gaze.
Hearing the question, Veronica sighed and answered calmly.
"Mmm... I suppose no one can forget love that easily, especially if you call it love. It’s different to forget a lover or a boyfriend than to forget love itself... But I guess yes, in the end as long as we’re alive we can move forward... Don’t worry, I won’t steal Lucian from you."
"Yeah... that’s what I thought... I... huh?... WHAT!? No no no! I couldn’t care less about that elf, he can go screw—" Ebony turned around angrily to complain to Veronica, who was only centimeters away from removing the bandages from her chest completely.
"Umm... I’ll be back... I-I’ll go get some food," Ebony said as she rushed out of the room, blushing and with her heart pounding intensely.
But once outside she could only take a deep breath and keep walking. Deep down she knew that maybe she would never be able to be with a girl again... not after seeing her girlfriend dead because of her own fault.
