Chapter 1111: A case... and a few more.
[ZYON NETWORK: SECRET FLOOR’S NEW OFFICE]
"Get out!" Axel slammed the entrance open, making the few night-shift employees jolt in surprise. His eyes glinted as he scanned the faces inside. "I said, out!"
The night shift employees looked at each other in confusion. Even so, they awkwardly stood from their desks and followed the orders. Seeing the exhausted yet fierce look on Axel, they chose the other door for their own safety.
Axel watched every single one of them leave before stepping inside. But instead of going anywhere in the large office, he stood frozen a few feet from the entrance. His eyes landed on the space in the middle and then on the main panel in the front. Looking at it, Heaven’s figure slowly appeared.
"Sis," he whispered, balling his hands into a fist.
Perhaps it was the lack of sleep or the level of stress he had that he was starting to see things. However, he didn’t do anything to make this imagination disappear. Instead, he watched his beloved sister-in-law work on the Main Control panel with precision and efficiency. Even when she was drinking coffee, she wouldn’t stop, nor would she take her eyes off the monitor.
Axel watched her for days. So, he could still remember it as if it had only happened yesterday.
God knows how many coffee and energy drinks she had to the point he had to prepare for medical personnel in case she collapsed. But she didn’t. She survived with a few power naps and caffeine. To be honest, he didn’t know why she worked so hard back then. He had no idea. However, deep in his heart, he also knew that whatever it was, she probably had an important reason for it.
That was probably one of the many reasons Axel was here. Because that same sister-in-law and the person he was imagining right now kept spewing nonsense. It didn’t make sense at all. It wasn’t the first time his sister-in-law messed with him, but she usually did that with believable nonsense. Not some sort of fantasy plot.
"Hera Cruel," he whispered as he took a deep, careful breath. "Why would she pick that woman, of all people?"
Axel marched toward the mother control panel, taking a seat to check some of their files. Hera Cruel was a name stuck to him while accompanying his sister-in-law. How could he forget?
Staring at the screen in front of him, a black scythe logo against the black backdrop and the welcoming greeting underneath it appeared.
[Welcome back, Hera.]
This was one of the reasons the name stuck to him. When the first time he saw it, it raised several questions in his mind. Unfortunately, he didn’t get to ask his sister-in-law about it because he got too distracted. Not to mention, this name also came up on the screen several times throughout her entire stay in the old Secret Floor’s office.
Axel couldn’t confidently say he knew everything about this woman, but it piqued his interest. After all, he was able to grasp her participation in the big crimes he caught a glimpse of.
"Was she saying... all this time, the Heaven Liu I know is actually..." Axel trailed off as he finally pulled up the record Heaven left in their system. "... her?"
His eyes slowly lowered, reading the first several crimes Hera Cruel participated in. Or rather, crimes and chaos, she organized herself.
It was bad.
Axel closed his eyes as he held his breath, unable to continue more of the list of crimes under Hera Cruel. Even if she got arrested for only one or two crimes, her sentence would be heavy. But with all of these combined, he could imagine the sentence she would get.
"This woman will probably break a record if she gets caught by the authorities," he mumbled, reopening his eyes when he gathered his emotions again. "She’s lying. There’s no way."
Axel didn’t read everything but simply skimmed through it. It did not surprise him Hera was at the top of the most wanted list of every international agency. She seemed like a scary person. A scary, daunting, fearless, and deemed as a highly dangerous felon.
A scary, daunting, fearless, and highly dangerous when necessary... just like his precious sister.
"No," he whispered, staring at the only existing photo of Hera Cruel in the cyberworld. He shook his head, eyes fixed on the dead look on her face. "You are not..."
Axel trailed off as his mind suddenly dragged him back to the first time he had contact with Heaven over a year ago. At that time, Grandma Zhu fainted. Both Dominic and Heaven came together, and surprisingly, she lied about the divorce. Not only that, but for the first time, she spoke her mind without second guessing.
That time, Axel knew she changed. He just didn’t know if it was a good or bad sign.
And then, by a stroke of fate, he saw her outside a mall. Thinking about it, Axel remembered speeding recklessly, putting the two of them at risk. Yet, she didn’t complain. If anything, she slapped him with some arrogance and confidence. Something he didn’t expect from Heaven.
That was the only start because from there, things just flowed naturally. Before Axel knew it, he fell in love with her and started rooting for her and his brother.
[Just reconsider it. If only you do, things would make sense. I am not your sister because if I was, you wouldn’t even tear up over something like this.]
"How is this possible?" he whispered as tears slowly coated his eyes until they stained his cheek. His eyes were still fixed on the pair of dead eyes on the screen as if she were there personally. "This... doesn’t make sense... it doesn’t make sense that it made sense."
Axel wasn’t the first time who questioned the mysteries and unanswered questions of the universe. This was hard to believe, but at the same time, it was the only plausible answer at the moment. After all, what Heaven said was right.
[I am not your sister because if I was, you wouldn’t even tear up over something like this. There’s no way she’d make you this unhappy.]
"My sister will bully me to no end, but she’ll never hurt me the way I am hurting right now," he murmured, and he somehow got the courage to read the long list of crimes under her belt. "There’s no way she did all of this."
Axel drew a deep breath, balling his hands into a fist. He hadn’t believed it completely, but since there was a chance this was the truth, then he couldn’t just let the people who wanted her have her.
"They’ll... kill her." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he reopened them, he fished out his phone and called the head of the company’s legal team. "Gather the best lawyers in the countries I’m going to send you. I want you to study a case..."
He paused, gazing down at the long list much longer than a shopping receipt for the holiday season. "... and maybe, a very few more."
