I Was Just a Cleaner... Until I Got the Demon Extraction System-Chapter 80: Next Steps After the Test is Over

It was strange to watch the rest of the participants fight against the demons through that camera. Damian and Mathias were resting a little bit, especially Damian, who had to do most of the fighting against that bull.

The main examiner sat beside them. "I was surprised by how well you handled the fight," he said, staring directly at Damian, "did you learn all of that with your family?"

Usually, people who took that route to get the hunter ID learned how to fight on their own. Some had the support of their families, including skilled teachers and resources, while others had to work harder. Mathias was one of those who didn't have the resources yet, but managed to learn enough to pass the test.

Damian didn't know what to say. He learned a few things back in the academy, but the reason he was strong was not because of his practice but because of his system.

"You can say that," Damian said, "I don't keep in touch with my family anymore."

The main examiner didn't press for further answers, which was appreciated. Damian didn't want to talk with him about that.

As for Mathias, he shared that he did learn with his family. Well, not his family, but a good friend of his father who was a hunter. After a few years of training, he finally decided to take the hunter test to obtain his ID, and it was successful.

"After we leave this island, we will go together to a bigger city where we will get your hunter ID. After that, you'll be officially hunters, so you can do whatever you want regarding missions. But I advise you to take easier missions first so that you can adjust to this new life. I really don't want to hear about you two in the news..."

Despite the harsh test the main examiner gave them, he really wanted to see them thrive. It would make him feel really sad if he saw Damian and Mathias in the news as demon victims. It was pretty common for hunters to perish when fighting demons, especially those who didn't take good precautions.

"We will take care," Damian said, "don't worry."

That was a lie... Damian would soon embark on a daring adventure, and perhaps he would even bring Mathias with him, if the young man was willing to risk his life to become stronger.

The main examiner just nodded and then returned his gaze to the cameras. That wasn't supposed to be the final test, but something weird was going on.

At one moment, someone entered their room. It was another hunter. He moved next to the main examiner and whispered to him. Damian was sitting right beside the main examiner, which is why he heard what the man said.

"We should finish the test earlier," the man whispered, "they are calling us in."

Damian had no idea who was calling them or why, but that was certainly unusual, considering how anxious and scared the man looked when delivering that news to the main examiner. And the examiner looked worried too, though he quickly hid his expression.

That test turned into the final one. The main examiner sent one of their hunters to gather all the participants in the same room and explain to them that the test had changed.

Now, all of them had to go solo and kill the highest number of demons possible. Each demon would count one point, and a few specific types that were stronger would count five points. At the end of three hours, those with the highest points would pass the test and get the hunter ID.

The top 8 would pass the test and get the hunter ID. As for the rest, they would fail and would have to try again the following year if they wanted.

Damian didn't care much about the test anymore. He only stayed there to check if the girls would pass the test or not. To his surprise, they actually did pass the test! That surprised him. As for Jaxon, well, he passed it, too!

The other duo that he met didn't pass. They didn't kill enough demons to get them into the top 8.

"Let's get out of here," the main examiner said.

After the test was officially over, everyone left together with the hunters. They moved to the hotel, which looked quite damaged after that test.

"We will sleep here for the night and leave tomorrow," the main examiner said.

That final test had lasted for quite a while, and fighting against multiple demons was quite tiring. Everyone needed some rest. Damian looked for any bed to sleep on. He didn't care much.

Jaxon and the two girls came to speak with him in there. They were curious because they hadn't seen them during the final test.

"We passed the test, too," Damian said.

They didn't explain much about it, and they didn't ask. Everyone went on their own paths after that. Only Damian and Mathias stayed together to talk.

"What adventure do you have in mind after we leave this place?" Mathias asked.

Now that they could speak alone, Mathias wanted to know more about it. Back then, inside the room with the other examiners, he didn't want to speak about it.

Damian shared what adventure he had, and it shocked Mathias.

"What? Really? Are you really going to another continent?" Mathias said, shocked, "But isn't this dangerous? Like, something that we, new hunters, shouldn't go?"

It indeed was, but at the same time, that was the best place for Damian to go! It was a continent infested with demons, and with few people there to see him absorb the demons. So, basically, it was heaven for Damian.

There, he would be able to keep absorbing demons without drawing attention, getting stronger and stronger. That would significantly boost his progress.

"I can speak with Hunter Lindy and see if there are some safer tasks for you to do there. I mean, as far as I know, there are some cities built in there, so you can stay in the safer zone most of the time, and slowly grind your way to get stronger. Also, I think you can increase your ranking more easily by being there."

There were just too many missions on that continent, and a small number of hunters, too. So, Mathias would have lots of missions to choose from and progress his rank with them. At least that was what they hoped.

Mathias looked thoughtful, considering the option.

"I mean, if I can stay in a safe place most of the time, and slowly get stronger, sure. I would be really glad if you could help me, too," Mathias said.

Damian liked Mathias. He had been a good friend.

"Sure, I can help you," Damian said, "but speak with your family first to give them the news about your ID. If you could, keep this mission of ours a secret. I don't want people knowing about it."

Mathias agreed with it. "Don't worry, I won't share it."

They talked about a few other trivial things before finally sleeping. Each one in a different room.

On the following morning, everyone left the island on the boat. Once they reached the smaller city, a bus was waiting for them there.

They traveled to the larger city, which had a building of the Hunter Society. There, they stayed for two days until everyone processed their new Hunter ID.

It required a photo of them and a few pieces of information about them. Damian's ID had an F Rank in it, which was essentially the lowest, although it was understandable considering they had just become hunters. Almost every single hunter started at the F rank.

Still, despite the F rank, all of them were happy to finally have their IDs. Mathias was one of the first to leave. He gave Damian his number so that they could stay in touch over the following days.

"I'll stay with my family for a few days," Mathias said, "after that, we can go on that adventure."

Damian didn't have the luxury of rest. He had to go and speak with Lindy so that they could prepare things for their travel.

"Alright," Damian said, "send me a message once you are done with the visit."

Damian called Lindy. She was in the same city, working on some stuff. They talked. Damian explained what happened during the test, and he shared that a friend of his wanted to go on an adventure with them.

"Are you sure this guy is ready to come with us?" Lindy said, "I mean, it will be dangerous, and he is a new hunter."

"Well, I am a new hunter too, so yeah. And he said he will stay most of the time in the safer areas of the continent, like in the cities, etc."

Mathias didn't want to risk it, but he wanted to go.

"If you say so," Lindy said, "let's meet up and settle things for the trip."
