I Was The Only Omega In The Beast World-Chapter 51: CP: Wolf’s Apology
The examination took nearly an hour. Moss was thorough, professional, and surprisingly gentle despite her matter-of-fact demeanor.
She checked Alex’s temperature, pressed carefully along his abdomen to assess each baby’s position, listened to heartbeats with practiced ears, and examined for any signs of complications from the heat.
"All six are healthy," she announced finally.
"Strong heartbeats, good movement, proper positioning.
The heat didn’t harm them—if anything, they’re thriving. Your body handled the stress remarkably well."
"That’s good," Alex said, relief flooding through him.
"That’s really good."
"You’ll need rest today. Lots of fluids. Food when you can manage it." Moss began packing up her supplies. "And you need to decide what you’re going to do about the rest of your stay here."
"We want to renegotiate," Naga said firmly.
"We stay with Alex. No more separations. We’ll camp here on the bridge if necessary, but we’re not leaving him alone in your territory again."
"Lucas is willing to discuss terms," Moss repeated.
"He should be here within the hour. I suggest you eat, rest, and prepare your arguments."
She stood, basket in hand. "For what it’s worth, I’ll advocate for you. What happened last night was a failure of hospitality and medical foresight. It won’t happen again on my watch."
She left, her footsteps fading back toward pack lands.
They ate the food she’d brought—cold meat, fresh bread, some kind of berry preserve, and that eternal jasmine-mint tea. Alex managed about half of it before exhaustion dragged at him again.
"Sleep," Leo urged gently. "We’ll wake you when Lucas arrives."
"Can’t sleep," Alex protested, even as his eyes drifted closed. "Need to prepare arguments. Need to think about terms. Need to—"
But sleep claimed him mid-sentence, his body finally demanding the rest it desperately needed.
Naga and Leo kept watch, their bodies forming a protective barrier around their exhausted mate, both of them still riding the adrenaline edge of the previous night’s terror.
An hour later, exactly as promised, footsteps approached from the wolf territory side.
Lucas appeared alone, as Moss had said he would.
He stopped at a respectful distance from the nest, his expression carefully controlled but his pale eyes showing clear signs of a sleepless night.
"May I approach?" he asked formally. "I wish to speak with all three of you. To apologize properly and to discuss new terms for the remainder of Alex’s stay."
Naga and Leo exchanged glances.
Then, in unison, they said: "Wake him. This concerns all of us."
Lucas nodded and waited while Leo gently roused Alex, who blinked groggily and tried to sit up with Naga’s immediate assistance.
"Lucas," Alex said, his voice still rough with sleep and exhaustion. "You came."
"I gave my word." The wolf moved closer but stayed outside the nest perimeter, lowering himself to sit cross-legged in a deliberately non-threatening posture. "And I owe all three of you an apology.
"A real one, not the hasty words I offered last night."
He took a breath, and when he spoke again, his voice carried genuine remorse.
"I failed you. As a host, as an Lord, as someone who claimed to honor guest rights."
"I allowed my own desires to cloud my judgment. I came to that lodge alone when I should have sent for your mates immediately. I stayed when I should have left. I—" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
His voice cracked slightly. "I came dangerously close to claiming you, Alex. To taking advantage of your heat-induced desperation. That is unforgivable."
"You stopped," Alex said quietly. "You held back."
"Barely." Lucas met his eyes directly. "And ’barely’ isn’t good enough. You deserved absolute protection under my roof. You deserved a host who would prioritize your safety over his own wants. I failed that. I failed all of you."
Naga’s coils shifted, but his voice was controlled when he spoke. "You’re right. You did fail. The question is—what are you going to do about it?"
"I’m going to honor what should have been the terms from the beginning," Lucas said firmly. "You may stay, both of you, for the remaining two days."
" You’ll be granted guest rights equal to Alex’s. You’ll sleep in the guest lodge with him. You’ll have freedom of movement within safe zones. You’ll be protected and provided for as honored guests."
He paused, then added, "And I’ll stay away. No more private visits. No more testing boundaries. Any demonstrations Alex needs to provide for the elders can happen with you present. Any discussions about the Essence or the trade will include all three of you."
It was more than they’d hoped for. A complete reversal of the original terms.
"Why?" Leo asked suspiciously. "What changed?"
"I did," Lucas said simply. "Last night showed me exactly what I could become when I prioritize want over honor. I don’t like what I saw. I won’t be that again."
Silence stretched between them.
Then Alex spoke, his voice steady despite his exhaustion.
"We accept. Two more days. You provide the demonstrations we need to earn the remaining points for the Essence. We complete the trade. Then we leave, and we all walk away from this with what we need and our honor intact."
Lucas nodded slowly. "Agreed. I’ll have the guest lodge prepared for three. Moss will continue her medical oversight. And I—"
He stood. "—I’ll prove to you that I can be trusted to keep my word this time."
He put his hand on his chest and bowed—a formal, deep gesture of respect and apology.
Then he left, his footsteps fading back toward pack lands.
The three of them sat in silence for a long moment.
"Well," Alex said finally. "That went better than expected."
"He’s still dangerous," Naga said darkly.
"Still wants you. That didn’t go away just because he feels guilty."
"No," Alex agreed. "But he’s choosing honor over want. That’s something. That’s progress."
"Two more days," Leo said, as if reminding himself.
"Just two more days. Then we get the stone and we leave this place forever."
"Two more days," Alex echoed.
They settled back into the nest, none of them quite ready to move to the guest lodge yet, all of them needing these quiet moments to process everything that had happened.
