I Was The Only Omega In The Beast World-Chapter 77: CP: The Fall
The evening celebration wound down slowly—bears drifting back to their dens, the fire burning low, excited chatter about tomorrow’s departure fading into the quiet mountain night.
Alex sat in their borrowed den, watching Naga and Leo pack with military precision while Granite—now officially their traveling companion—organized his own supplies in the corner.
"I don’t need much," Granite was saying, carefully folding a weathered cloak.
"Weapons, basic provisions, my ceremonial stones for emergencies. Everything else is just weight."
Leo approved. "We travel light and fast. Alex needs frequent rest stops now, but between those we cover good distance."
"The next territory is...?" Granite asked.
"We’re not entirely sure yet," Alex admitted.
"We have four stones—Black, Golden, Silver Fang, and now Bronze. The remaining three are Water, Fire, and Air, according to the old legends. But we don’t know which tribes hold them."
[Actually, I’ve been mapping territorial rumors while you sleep! Want the intel?]
"Please," Alex said.
[Okay! Based on overheard conversations and geographical logic:
Water Stone: Probably with the Mer- Tribe (Ocean bed)
Air Stone: Unclear, but rumors point to the Harpy Eagle (central forests, very secretive)]
Fire Stone: Definitely with the Dragon Tribe (volcanic region, south)
"Eagle tribe is the closest," Naga observed, having clearly been eavesdropping on Alex’s conversation with the system. "Three days northeast from here if we push."
"Let’s start there then," Alex decided. "We can always adjust if we get better information."
His bladder chose that moment to make its presence known—again. The twins were definitely pressing on everything now.
"I need to use the facilities," Alex said, standing carefully. "Again. For the third time tonight."
"Want company?" Leo offered immediately.
"I can walk twenty feet to the communal washroom by myself," Alex said with fond exasperation. "I’ll be fine."
"Yell if you need anything," Naga said.
"I will."
Alex slipped out into the cool night air, pulling his cloak tight against the mountain chill. The moon was nearly full, casting everything in silver-blue light. Most of the tribe had already retired—only a few fires still burned in scattered dens, and the central clearing was empty except for the dying embers of the main fire pit.
The communal washroom was built at the edge of the settlement—a series of carved stone enclosures with privacy screens, positioned over a natural stream that carried waste away down the mountain.
Alex did his business quickly, shivering slightly in the cold. The twins kicked enthusiastically, apparently offended by the temperature change.
"I know, I know," he muttered, rubbing his belly.
"We’ll be back in the warm den in a minute."
He stepped out of the enclosure, adjusting his cloak—
—and froze.
Someone was standing in the path between him and the settlement.
Backlit by moonlight, features obscured, but the silhouette was wrong. Too tense. Too predatory.
"Hello?" Alex called out, keeping his voice steady.
"Can I help you?"
The figure stepped forward into a patch of moonlight.
It was a bear Alex didn’t recognize—male, younger than Granite, with light brown fur and eyes that reflected the moon like cold amber. He wore simple clothes, nothing ceremonial, and his hands were empty.
But his expression...
His expression was pure hatred.
"You," the bear said, voice low and venomous. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"You’re the one who destroyed everything."
[HOST! DANGER! That’s one of Amber’s mates—I recognize his scent signature from earlier!— judging by how strong he looks, must be her three star mate.]
Alex’s heart kicked into overdrive.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about," he said carefully, keeping his hands visible and non-threatening. "I haven’t destroyed anything."
"Liar," the bear spat, taking another step closer.
"Amber was going to be...chief’s mate. She was going to have STATUS. POWER. A future beyond being just another Saintess in a tribe that barely respects her."
" What kind of mate he is? Willingly let his female have another mate? " Alex wondered.
[ It’s not willing. It’s inclination. Anything their mate desire. These beastmen will fulfill it regardless of what they truly want. ]
" What? Doesn’t that mean.... If their mate wants them dead, they’ll go and kill themselves? "
[ Yes. ]
System said coldly.
[ That’s why it is your mission to change this unfair power dynamic. To let these poor beastmen have better life— to not let their life hang on their mates wishes. ]
Alex came out of his thoughts when he heard knuckles cracking sound.
The bear was breathing hard now, fists clenching and unclenching.
"You dare talk to your spirit when you’re in front of me. Amber told me you were a liar. With your pretty face and your miracle gifts and your perfect mate bonds. You made her look foolish. Made her lose face in front of everyone. And now Granite’s leaving—LEAVING—to follow you instead of choosing her!"
"That’s not—" Alex started.
"SHUT UP!" the bear roared, and Alex flinched back.
"You took everything from her! From US! Amber promised me status, promised our cubs would be important, promised—"
He cut himself off, breathing ragged.
"She’s broken now," he said, quieter but no less angry. "Crying in her den, humiliated, her reputation destroyed. Because of YOU."
[HOST, RUN! Call for help! SOMETHING!]
"I’m sorry Amber is hurting," Alex said, trying to keep his voice calm, trying to de-escalate. "But I didn’t set out to hurt her. I came here to trade, that’s all—"
"You’re lying," the bear interrupted. "Everything about you is lies. You’re not even from this world—you admitted it yourself! You’re some kind of demon, some trickster spirit sent to destroy good people like Amber!"
He lunged forward—not attacking yet, just closing distance, backing Alex toward the edge of the path.
Toward the cliff.
Because the washroom was built at the settlement’s edge, and beyond it was nothing but a steep drop down to the river gorge far below.
Alex’s back hit the wooden safety railing—old, weathered, not meant to hold much weight.
"Please," Alex said, hands up in surrender. "Think about what you’re doing. I’m pregnant. I have cubs—"
"Demon spawn," the bear hissed. "Probably cursed. Probably monsters."
"They’re not—"
"Amber should have been chosen!" the bear shouted, and there were tears in his eyes now, grief mixing with rage. "....She worked so HARD! She devoted EVERYTHING to this tribe! She even chose me—someone from another tribe. And you just walked in with your magic tricks and stole her future!"
"I didn’t steal anything," Alex said desperately.
"Granite made his own choices—"
"BECAUSE YOU MANIPULATED HIM!"
The bear shoved Alex.
Not hard—just a push, really, fueled more by anguish than genuine intent to harm.
But Alex was off-balance, his center of gravity strange with pregnancy, his reflexes not quite fast enough—
The railing cracked.
Splintered.
Gave way.
And Alex fell.
