Chapter 298: Teleporting Confusion?

As Lillian continued to ride on forward, she was suddenly stopped as another wave fell from the sky, crashing brutally into the ground right in front of her Beetle.

She urged the Beetle to continue on and get them out of the way.

However, right as the Beetle was about to take a step forward in the enemy’s direction, she saw something flash in the corner of her eyes.

Twisting her body around, she raised her arm, blocking a horizontal kick that knocked her off the Beetle.

Thud...

Falling to the ground, she quickly got back up and summoned her black odachi.

’What was that...?’

Glancing around, she heard a loud and familiar roar coming from her Beetle. Looking towards them, she found them being swarmed by cultists from every side.

She took a step forward, intending to assist her monster with clearing out the enemy, before watching as something flashed in the corner of her eyes again.

Swish!

She quickly swung her blade to the side, cutting through nothing but air. Confusion flashed across her face. What was going on? Who was attacking her?

Were they invisible, or were they really fast?

Lillian, holding her position, flinched as the face of a cultist mask appeared in front of her. Her eyes then quickly glanced at the fist that was quickly shot at her.

Lillian circulated her mana, morphing her head into water and intending to pass right through it.

However...

What happened next caused her eyes to widen.

She watched as the fist that was rapidly approaching her was encased in a layer of mana, which upon contact with the side of her face—

BAM!

—Disrupted her circulation of mana, making it so her head wasn’t able to morph into water.

Lillian was sent back, the back of her shoes skidding on the cobblestone ground as she rubbed the side of her face with the back of her hand.

She then spat at the ground—her saliva mixed with blood, caused by the blow.

After steadying her balance, she looked towards the enemy, finding a man in all-black holding a martial arts stance. They didn’t seem to be wielding any weapons.

And around their hands that were tightly clutched into fists, was a layer of dense mana.

Lillian grimaced, ’Another tier 2 or above...’

Discovering this, a question popped into her mind.

Was this a student... Or a teacher?

Lillian watched as the enemy’s body faded out of existence. She quickly twisted her head around, scanning her area for the enemy.

She shot a curious glance at her Beetle, finding it to be rampaging through the cultists—its body now slathered in blood.

It seemed to be doing well for now, but she wasn’t sure if it would be able to keep it up for long.

It didn’t have unlimited stamina, after all.

Lillian quickly dodged to the side, discovering another cultist had begun attacking her. Her eyes followed the tip of its blade, then the face of their mask.

Was this the same one she was just fighting earlier?

As she was thinking this, the entire front part of her body was dyed with blood as the cultist in front of her became a mush of flesh as another cultist fell from the sky.

And that was when she recognised that this was the one she was fighting earlier.

She stared at their blood-coated fist that was still wrapped in mana. Had this one tried to sneak attack her from above?

As she was theorising, she heard a pained voice echo from behind the cultist’s mask. It was filled with grief and guilt.

"No..."

Lillian watched as their body shook, their face still turned down and facing the destroyed corpse of the cultist below them.

Lillian, seeing that the enemy’s body was frozen with grief, chose that it was the best moment to attack.

Swinging her blade at them, who remained still, she immediately stepped to the side as a battle axe was swung at her from above.

SWISH!

The heavy edge of the axe sank and cut into the ground. Lillian clicked her tongue, having just missed her chance to finish off the more dangerous variable.

Then, coming from all sides, she was overrun.

She dodged left to right, trying to dodge the flurry of weapons that came at her, even receiving cuts in the process due to not being fast enough to avoid them.

Once seeing an opening to attack, she swung the Black Maw, cleaving through the waists of countless cultists and splashing blood onto her body.

Right as she was about to destroy their heads to prevent them from healing, Lillian felt something strike against the side of her head, causing her brain to rattle.

And... A part of her skull caved in from the blow. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Her eyes drifted to the side, finding the cultist, who was previously paralysed with grief, now back in action.

In the split moment that Lillian caught sight of him, her mind raced with possibilities of his abilities. And that was when it hit her.

They were teleporting!

She gritted her teeth. Right before the injury on the side of her head could worsen any further, she summoned her Parasitic Lines and attached them to the surrounding cultists, as well as the teleporting one.

Quickly healing, she steadied her balance. She put away her black odachi, finding it to be weighing her down. She then summoned a blade of water and held it in her hands.

Swinging the liquid blade that was weightless in her hands, she sliced through the necks of the cultists around her before trying to figure out where the teleporting one had disappeared off to.

While she was doing this, she had removed the excess Parasitic Lines. Only allowing the one she had stuck onto the teleporting cultist to remain.

And this helped her a great deal.

Ducking, Lillian avoided a clean strike from the cultist that appeared before her.

While crouching, she leapt up, stabbing her blade of water into the centre of their chest before rapidly flooding the insides of their body with water.
