I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 116: Exhausted
Chapter 116: Exhausted
As soon as Kade left, Felix locked the door and put the chain on, to stop any unwanted guests from barging in (not that it could actually stop the Alpha or his guards if they truly wanted to get in, as they could just break the door, but still), and threw himself on the couch, exhausted mentally and emotionally.
Dealing with Kade was always stressful. They had known each other for a while now, but Felix still had no idea how much he could actually trust the Alpha. He was worried whenever his heart skipped a beat or his cheeks flushed, because warming up to him was dangerous. It could lead to Felix lowering his guard, and missing the warning signs.
After all, as nice as Kade had been to him - if you ignore the fact that he blatantly stepped over the boundaries Felix had tried to set, and assume that he hadn’t been involved with that rogue Beta’s, Brian’s, incident - that didn’t change the fact that he was capable of killing other werewolves in a bloody way.
It wasn’t something that was all that unusual among the werewolves, of course. Their society was different than human, killing others was not necessarily frowned upon, depending on the circumstances. Especially when it came to rogues - no one cared what happened to rogues, as they were social rejects, subjects of nothing but scorn, and everyone just assumed they deserved whatever bad things happened to them.
And Felix was a rogue. Perhaps not officially, but still. Kade could do whatever he wanted to him, and no one would step up to defend him. So, if Kade ever got too angry at him for his defiance...
But accepting Kade wasn’t really an option either. Neither Felix nor Vivi would have a good life in the Bloodmoon Pack. Kade would most likely provide them with everything they needed, but the rest of the pack wouldn’t accept them... And they would surely find plenty of ways to show them just how little they think of them, even if they couldn’t afford to do it openly. Felix could handle it, but Vivi...
He didn’t want to subject his pup to such a cold, isolated existence. She’d be much better growing in Silverfall, where she might be able to make friends in school.
And that wasn’t the only reason. The Bloodmoon Pack wasn’t as safe as it might have seemed. Einar Blackstone had been cursed. The LEADER of the pack, cursed, to the point he had almost lost his life. After suffering for months. Almost a year, at the minimum, since it was December when Kade came to look for the mermaid blood.
If even the leader could have been cursed that way, what might happen to Felix? All it would have taken was one influential person to dislike Felix and think he was in their way, and his and Vivi’s lives would have turned into hell. Sure, Einar might have been saved by Felix’s fox of a witch... But if Felix were to go to the Bloodmoon Pack, he might lose the witch’s favor.
Which was something he didn’t want. Not just because Remi was powerful, but simply because he had grown attached to the fox. He didn’t want to part with him. They had such nice, peaceful life together...
Vivi started cooing in her crib, snapping Felix out of his thoughts. He let out a long, heavy sigh, and dragged himself back to his feet.
Whatever. There was no need to think so deeply about that just yet. A year and nine months still remained before the end of the ’break’ he and Kade had agreed on, there was a chance the Alpha might move on and find someone else... The thought of it stung a bit, squeezing Felix’s chest, but he shook his head, chasing it all away. It was for the best.
He went over to pick Vivi up from the crib, and focused all of his attention on his pup. They sat down on the mat on the floor, and Felix pulled out the box with toys, taking out the soft squeeze toys, which were helpful in building infants’ grasping and manipulation shills, or so he had heard. Vivi liked them quite a lot...
Especially biting into them. Like a proper wolf pup, she was frequently trying to bite and tear off pieces of toys (and not only), which was why Felix could hardly leave her out of the crib for a moment without any supervision, lest she might succeed and end up choking. A regular four-month-old baby perhaps wouldn’t be able to... But Vivi was a young and proud little werewolf. She was already a bit stronger than human babies her age, and she had already started teething. Once she learned how to crawl well, Felix was truly going to have both of his hands busy with this little ball of cuteness...
Not that he complained. He was relieved that Vivi was so energetic, and developing well.
Busy with his daughter, Felix didn’t even realize when Remi sneaked back in. It was only when the fox had brushed against his back that Felix took notice of his presence.
"Want something to eat?" he asked, but the fox only shook his head, and went to the bedroom. He looked so tired, his head and tail all hanging limply... Well, he had been working hard for many hours, so it was understandable that he just wanted to get in bed...
As soon as he climbed onto bed, he instantly shot out of the sheets, jumping back down with a yelp. He ran back to Felix’s side, an accusatory look in his eyes, as if Felix had committed some sort of grave sin against him.
"What? What is..." Felix started, but then he went, "Ah," as he suddenly remembered.
Kade had slept in his bed all night.
And Felix forgot to change the sheets afterwards. Thus, the whole bed was covered in black fur, and bathed in sandalwood scent.
"I get it, I get it, I’ll fix it now!" Felix sighed, taking the toy out of Vivi’s hands, and picking her up to put her in the crib as he dealt with the bed.
To which Vivi started crying, displeased that her play time had been interrupted. Suddenly, the house became noisy and chaotic. On one hand, Felix had wailing Vivi, on another, the fox who was scoffing and scowling, throwing Felix wounded and angry glares...
It was a good thing that Felix had the mix for the chicken and cheese pancakes prepared. That, and some cuddles, should pacify Remi...
