Chapter 134: Confidential

"What’s your connection to the Bloodmoon Pack?"

At his mother’s question, Remi remained silent, only throwing a surreptitious glance back at Felix.

He didn’t have any connection to the Bloodmoon Pack, actually, except for the fact that he had accepted Einar Blackstone as his client this one time. Of course, now that he had gotten involved, it would be inconvenient for him if the curse were to return, as the Bloodmoon Pack might come after him, demanding compensation for his ’failure’...

And they were a powerful pack. Although Remi didn’t know or care about the werewolf affairs, he had heard enough during the past few months he had spent living with Felix to have a good understanding of the situation. He wasn’t so much as afraid for himself, but rather concerned about how much trouble it might bring to Felix.

But it must have been the same for his mother. Whoever her client was, they must have paid her a lot for her to place such a complex curse on Einar Blackstone. Unless...

"Let me just confirm something first," he turned back to his mother. "Why did you curse their leader?"

"That’s confidential," the woman said calmly. "I can’t reveal my client. Unless..." She paused for a moment, thinking. "I need to know why you need this information first. If you have any ties with the Bloodmoon Pack," her eyes fell on Felix and Vivi, the two werewolves in the room, who were the most likely connection, "And you need that information for your safety... Then, we can discuss that."

"So it’s because of a client," Remi asked to confirm. "You don’t have any personal grudges?"

"No, not against the Bloodmoon," his mother confirmed.

Remi glanced back at Felix. It was something they should discuss carefully, all three of them...

For now, though, he just said, "It’s getting late. We have been working on the potion for hours now, and we’re both tired. Let’s talk about it tomorrow."

"For hours?" the woman narrowed her eyes, observing Remi’s face.

Seeing the change in her expression, Felix also looked up at the man. He didn’t really think about that earlier, but he had never seen Remi stay in his human form for so long... Especially not when the moon was growing fuller.

And sure enough, his face looked pale and strained. He didn’t necessarily seem in pain, but uncomfortable for sure...

But before either of them could get a better look, Remi turned away. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

"Let’s call it a night, then, shall we?" he said, trying to maintain his calm, but his composed front was quickly slipping. "There’s a hotel on the other side of the town, you can stay there."

"Can’t I stay here?" his mother asked. "I can stay in the fox form if you don’t have space..."

"There’s a bed upstairs," Remi said.

Then, he disappeared, turning into a fox.

Right in front of Felix’s eyes.

Was it because he was finally done pretending, or because he couldn’t endure staying in the human form any longer? Felix would have been glad if it were the former... But he had a sinking suspicion that the latter was closer to the truth.

Especially when he noticed the concerned expression on Remi’s mother’s face.

"...I will be going, then," he bowed his head at the woman, and rushed to put on his jacket. Now that Remi was in his fox form, he didn’t want to stay in the witch’s house any longer... Not with the woman here. She seemed rather nice and all, and he didn’t think she would do anything to hurt him. but it was still an uncomfortable situation.

As he was struggling with his jacket’s zipper, which suddenly couldn’t connect for some reason (most likely because of his shaking hands...), the woman moved closer to him.

"You’re not staying here?" she asked, confused. "I thought you said you were roommates?"

"Ah, well..." Felix muttered.

"If it’s about the bed, then don’t worry! Like I said, I can sleep in my fox form. I came here unannounced, I don’t want to trouble you."

"That’s not it," Felix rushed to explain. "I... I mean, we, actually live somewhere else..."

"Ah, is that so?" the woman paused. She looked as if she wanted to be invited...

In the end, though, she let it go. "Well, I won’t intrude on a young couple. Have a good rest, then, and I’ll see you tomorrow! Without the hat this time, preferably!"

This ’couple’ thing again.

But, Felix didn’t have the mind to correct her. He just muttered, "Good night," bowed his head, grabbed Vivi, and quickly got out of the witch’s house, leaving the woman behind.

It was only when he was already at his door that he realized that Remi didn’t follow him...

Well, his mother came to visit, after all. Although there clearly was a lot of tension between them, at least on Remi’s side, it didn’t seem as if their relationship was all that bad. Back when she arrived, Remi was nervous, but not hostile, afraid, or anything...

Although it was all rather... odd. And confusing. Remi had run away from home for some reason. Because he was ’tired’, did he say?

Either way, it was quite a lot to take in. Not much had been said, but it was all new information for Felix. He hadn’t heard a thing about Remi’s parents before - Brielle had mentioned them in passing once or twice, but each time, she quickly diverted the topic. Thus, all that Felix had known until now was that Brielle had met Remi’s parents... and that was it.

He didn’t even know Remi’s mother was a witch. Of course, he had suspected it might have been the case - he didn’t know where magical powers came from, but they could be hereditary - but only now did he have the confirmation.

But he would have never suspected that the person behind Einar Blackstone’s curse could be related to Remi... Witches were rare, yes, but that was still such an amazing coincidence.

Or a terrible coincidence, perhaps would be a better word?

Felix let out a heavy sigh, and unlocked the door, stepping into the house. For now, he should get some rest. He’d think about it all later. He took out his jacket and shoes, then reached to remove the hat...

But the spiky witch hat was still stuck on his head, refusing to budge!
