Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 183: Missed, After All
Through the glass, Cecilia Nathan and Miles Sinclair were deep in conversation. There were even reporters lying in wait nearby.
Remembering what Tia Bennett had said, Damian Hawthorne’s mind was in turmoil.
Why couldn’t he find any information related to Luna? It was as if every investigation was met by a force stronger than his own, one that was actively blocking him from the truth.
He’d felt the same way when he investigated Cecilia Nathan.
’So what, exactly, is the connection between Cecilia Nathan and May Rhodes?’
"President Hawthorne, there are reporters around. Should we wait a little longer?" Justin Bell reminded him calmly.
If he rushed out now, it would create another media circus, and there was no telling what kind of stories would explode in the press.
"Then just get rid of the reporters," Damian Hawthorne said dismissively, a roguish smirk playing on his lips as he pushed the door open and stepped out of the car.
Justin Bell said anxiously, "President Hawthorne, we have to think about your reputation!"
"What reputation do I have left?" Damian Hawthorne shot him a dismissive glance.
Justin Bell’s breath hitched.
’He had a point. President Hawthorne and Miss Cecilia Nathan’s reputations weren’t worth much anymore anyway.’
The moment Damian Hawthorne stepped out of the car, all eyes were drawn to him.
He wasn’t particularly fixated on luxury brands, but every car he drove was a limited-edition model, never a standard vehicle. Consequently, whenever his car appeared, it invariably sparked curiosity about the person inside.
In a bustling metropolis like Korsyth, such sights should have been common, yet people were still curious whether a beautiful woman or a handsome man would emerge from the car.
Damian Hawthorne emerged, dressed in a set of gray casual wear. His hair was jet-black, and a few strands fell across his forehead, lending him a relaxed air. Beneath a high, straight nose, his thin lips were slightly upturned, a mix of arrogance and rebelliousness in his expression.
He was tall and strikingly handsome. Any woman who saw him would find her gaze locked on his face, unable to look away.
He was already captivating enough on his own, let alone in a public place like the front of a shopping center.
Justin Bell got out of the car with a sigh. As the surrounding women’s gazes shifted to his face, they were visibly disappointed.
Justin Bell’s breath caught.
He was long used to such reactions.
After all, when it came to looks, President Hawthorne was in a league of his own, leaving Justin far behind.
As they watched Damian Hawthorne head toward the café, the onlookers stopped in their tracks, their eyes following his path.
One reporter cheekily tried to follow, but Justin Bell intercepted him with a frown, pulling cigarettes and a red envelope from his bag as he approached.
Justin Bell knew that this time, President Hawthorne was dead serious.
’He absolutely could not let the media get a picture of this.’
「In the Sinclair Family’s villa.」
Fiona Sinclair, Serena Hughes, and Quinn Sutton were eating together, each with a different expression on her face.
Remembering her friend’s words, Serena Hughes was on pins and needles.
Fiona Sinclair noticed her agitation and ladled a bowl of soup for her. "What’s wrong, Serena?"
Quinn Sutton also asked with concern, "Cousin, what’s wrong? We’re family. If something is bothering you, you must tell us. Don’t keep it bottled up inside."
"It’s nothing..." Serena Hughes couldn’t help but roll her eyes at Quinn Sutton’s words.
’She had no idea what kind of sweet lies Quinn Sutton had fed her grandmother, but ever since that phone call, Fiona Sinclair had been taking Quinn everywhere.’
Serena Hughes had tried to probe her about her relationship with Miles Sinclair many times, but Quinn Sutton was always evasive.
She would neither confirm nor deny an intimate relationship with Miles Sinclair, yet she always acted as if he cared for her deeply.
’And here she was, pregnant, with no one even knowing who the father was.’
Yet, Fiona Sinclair seemed to have tacitly accepted who the father of the child was.
"Cousin, if you know anything that could be bad for our family, you can’t hide it. The Sinclair family has worked so hard to get to where we are. We can’t afford any mishaps now."
Quinn Sutton’s nonchalant, cutting remarks made Serena so furious her face turned pale with anger.
"Grandma, I’m full." Serena Hughes set down her utensils, intending to go upstairs.
"Serena, your cousin has experience with company management. From now on, you’ll learn from her." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Learn from *her*?" Serena Hughes stopped dead in her tracks and yelled, "Who the hell does she think she is? Grandma, you can’t possibly believe she’s having an affair with Miles Sinclair, can you? If he really were, with how sharp Cecilia Nathan is, do you think he could hide it from her? Besides, she’d probably make him leave with nothing, and he’d drag the whole Sinclair family down with him!"
"Silence," Fiona Sinclair ordered coldly. "What do you know? If you want to keep living in this house, you’ll do as I say. Otherwise, you can go back to your own home."
"Fine, I will!"
Furious, Serena Hughes stormed out of the house.
Watching her leave, Fiona Sinclair’s expression shifted complexly.
The atmosphere in the room grew cold.
In the end, she had chosen Quinn Sutton over Serena Hughes.
"Quinn, from now on, the Sinclair family’s affairs will be in your hands."
A sly glint appeared in Quinn Sutton’s eyes as she said in a sweet, delicate voice, "Of course, Great-Aunt. Don’t you worry. I’ll change my surname to my mother’s right away, and then I’ll officially be part of the Sinclair family. Serena is just being impulsive. Once I take over the family business and make it even more successful, Cousin Serena will naturally come to understand your difficult but well-intentioned decision."
When Quinn Sutton finished, Fiona Sinclair gave a faint nod.
After that last phone call, Fiona Sinclair had still held some reservations.
But with the news of Miles Sinclair and Cecilia Nathan’s impending marriage, all her reservations vanished.
’After all, Serena had offended Cecilia Nathan, but Quinn was different. Quinn’s relationship with Miles Sinclair was more secure.’
’As long as Miles Sinclair had influence within the Nathan family, the future of their Sinclair family could only get brighter.’
After storming out of the house, Serena Hughes’s first instinct was to call Cecilia Nathan.
But she couldn’t get through.
Serena was filled with immense regret as she thought about all the ways she had wronged Cecilia Nathan in the past.
’If she had known, she would have done everything to stay on Cecilia Nathan’s good side. Then she wouldn’t be getting led around by the nose by that bitch Quinn Sutton.’
’No, she had to tell Cecilia. She had to warn her to be wary of Miles Sinclair.’
’She had a gut feeling that the relationship between Miles and Quinn wasn’t as simple as it seemed.’
...
「Korsyth City Center. Inside the café.」
The moment Damian Hawthorne walked in, he headed straight for Cecilia Nathan and Miles Sinclair.
Cecilia Nathan seemed to be reminiscing about something, and Miles Sinclair was able to effortlessly pick up on her train of thought and continue the conversation.
Seeing Cecilia’s calm and confident demeanor—so different from the subservient way she used to be around him—Damian Hawthorne stopped in his tracks.
When Cecilia had been with him, she had always catered to his every whim. If he said to go west, she wouldn’t dare even suggest going east.
But now, watching her talk with Miles Sinclair, he suddenly understood why she liked him.
Their relationship was one of equals, built on mutual respect.
There was no fawning, no issuing of commands.
Damian Hawthorne suddenly realized what an asshole he had been.
’He had never truly tried to understand her.’
’Or perhaps, he never gave himself the chance.’
As Cecilia Nathan was talking with Miles Sinclair, she suddenly felt a persistent gaze fixed on her.
Cecilia looked up, her gaze as tranquil as a placid lake. As her eyes met Damian Hawthorne’s, they quivered, just for a moment.
"What is it?" Seeing her staring at a fixed point, Miles Sinclair asked with concern.
