Chapter 192: Chapter 192: Telling the Truth

Liam Miller slammed his fists against the door, making it rattle with a loud BANG, BANG.

Frances Bennett, still reeling from the shock of seeing the map, was startled by the sound of Liam Miller’s shouting, which made her ears ring.

She had thought one hundred million would be enough to handle the project. She never expected her nephew to be so insatiably greedy. He must have heard something from someone, because now he was demanding the rest of the money.

Frances Bennett’s face turned ashen with rage, and she completely ignored Liam Miller’s shouting from outside.

Suddenly, Liam Miller’s shouting stopped.

Just as Frances Bennett was wondering what happened, she heard Damian Hawthorne’s voice. "Liam Miller, what are you doing here?"

’Damian is back!’

Frances Bennett’s eyes widened, and her whole body began to tremble.

’Wasn’t Damian on a business trip? Why is he back now!’

’This is bad. If he finds out I took over a billion, Damian will never let me get away with it.’

Frances Bennett hurried to the door and opened it. "Oh, Liam, whatever it is, come inside and we can talk. Quick, come in."

Frances Bennett leaned close to Liam Miller and whispered, "Don’t mention the deal to your cousin. He doesn’t know anything about it."

"What?" Liam Miller’s eyes widened in surprise. "You mean you didn’t tell Damian?"

"What didn’t you tell me?" Damian narrowed his eyes at Frances Bennett’s suspicious behavior. "Are you hiding something from me?"

"Damian... Haha, well, it’s about that deal your cousin wants to do... You didn’t approve of it, remember? I was just trying to placate him, but I never thought he’d show up at the house. How about this? You head to the office, and I’ll have a quick chat with Liam. I promise I’ll talk him out of it."

Damian’s expression remained impassive as he watched her fawning attempt to please him.

"Then what did Liam Miller mean just now, yelling that one hundred million wasn’t enough?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Oh, it’s nothing... It’s just... his project needs several hundred million to even get started." Frances Bennett quickly tugged on Liam Miller’s arm. "Right, Liam? Your project needs over a billion, doesn’t it?"

"That’s right, Aunt Frances is correct. It does need over a billion, but right now we only have..." Liam Miller started to say before Frances Bennett cut him off.

"Liam, dear, you can tell me whatever you need. However much you’re short, your aunt can get it for you. There’s no need to bother your cousin."

Since Frances Bennett had put it that way, Liam Miller felt it wouldn’t be right to press the issue further.

"Alright then, Damian. I’ll just talk to Aunt Frances about it myself. I won’t bother you about it anymore."

Having finally pacified Liam Miller, Frances Bennett breathed a sigh of relief. Just then, Damian Hawthorne’s phone rang.

Damian raised an eyebrow and answered the phone.

Frances Bennett watched Damian’s every move, her eyelid twitching nervously.

After hanging up, Damian looked up at Frances Bennett.

His gaze was ice-cold, and Frances Bennett’s heart skipped a beat.

"Damian, who... who was that?"

"The police department." Damian let out a sarcastic laugh. "Frances Bennett, what in the world have you done?"

"I... I didn’t..." The color drained from Frances Bennett’s face. ’Could Caleb Kramer have gone to the police and told them something?’

"Damian, some of those people were your father’s enemies. They hold a grudge against me. You can’t just listen to hearsay..."

"And what is it I’m supposed to have heard?" Damian’s tone was flat, his brown eyes unreadable. "Frances Bennett, you’d better tell me everything, right now. Don’t hide a thing."

"I..." Frances Bennett seemed to deflate, her eyelids drooping.

’Am I really going to have to tell him I’m not his mother?’

Damian hadn’t even been willing to see her lately; everyone knew their mother-son relationship was strained. If this secret got out, she would become the laughingstock of all of Korsyth.

But she knew she couldn’t hide the truth forever.

Especially not after Caleb Kramer had turned himself in.

"Fine, Damian. I’ll tell you." Frances Bennett took a deep breath, tears welling in her eyes. "The truth is, I’m not your..."

"President Hawthorne!" Justin Bell hurried in from the main entrance. "The office just called. They said President Bennett withdrew over a billion. She claimed you approved it, but I never received any such notification on my end."

"Over a billion!" Liam Miller’s voice was shrill. "Aunt Frances, you really got your hands on over a billion? Then why did you only give me one hundred million? Where did the rest of the money go?"
