Incan had been attacked by monsters, and from what Yelena heard, severely injured.

His vital body parts were completely torn off.

Yelena wasn’t incredibly knowledgeable about medical treatment, but an injury to that extent didn’t seem like it could completely heal in just a few weeks.

Incan hadn’t shown even the slightest hint of discomfort that day.

‘If that was all from the power of black magic…’

Yelena stared down at her hand.

‘…Then, what could this have been?’

Besides the image of her husband urgently running to save her, there was another image from that day that Yelena remembered clearly.

The flashes.

White flashes had definitely appeared on her hand out of the blue, and she had sent Incan flying when she struck him with that hand.

It was hard to believe even thinking about it now.

‘It definitely wasn’t my imagination.’

There were too many inexplicable things for it to have just been a hallucination she had experienced in her astonishment and confusion.

‘Incan even mentioned it himself before he strangled me…’

What could it have possibly been?

Yelena flipped her hand over and studied it.

She didn’t see anything in particular.

Truth be told, every time she thought about it, she’d often check her hand, but no flashes appeared after that day.

“It definitely seemed to be the complete opposite of the power Incan possessed.”

The flashes only held power when going against Incan.

It had no effect on Incan’s companion who had been keeping watch in front of the door.

“Hmm…”

“Madam.”

Yelena was staring closely down at her right hand with perplexed eyes when Abbie entered the library to find her.

“The Duke suggested having dinner in the greenhouse today and wanted to know what Madam thinks.”

Yelena’s attention effortlessly shifted.

“Tell him right away that I would love to,” Yelena replied, beaming.

***

Crack, crackle.

Inside a room being warmed by a fireplace was a young woman, alone, tilting a cup of tea.

A bird flew to the window and pecked its beak on the glass.

Holding her teacup, the woman walked over to the window and opened it.

The bird delivered a rolled letter to the woman, which she opened.

The letter was blank at first, but words appeared after she poured her tea over it.

[Tracking failed. Body disposal complete.]

After reading the letter, the woman moved towards the fireplace and threw it in the fire.

It took some time for the embers to ignite the wet piece of paper.

The woman watched the tedious process and mumbled, “This has become bothersome.”

The woman, Rebecca Marezon, had ordered her subordinate to depart for the Mayhard Duchy at once. Upon catching up with Incan, he was not to capture him, but to shoot him.

However, if Incan wasn’t alone, he was to kill the companion first and make it look like Incan did it himself.

And if the worst case scenario were to occur…

If he failed to catch up with Incan and Incan died by someone else’s hands.

‘Then use what I gave you and get rid of the body.’

“To think the last scenario became a reality.” Rebecca sighed.

She was aware that Incan had tried to kidnap the duchess and that he was killed immediately, as the Marezon family had received a letter stating as much.

Truthfully, the only new piece of information she learned from her subordinate’s letter was that Incan’s body had been disposed of.

“What do I do now.”

After finding out that Incan had run away, Rebecca decided to kill her own brother without hesitation.

Part of the reason was because he had stolen from her, but the bigger reason was because he knew confidential information.

‘Though I don’t think the bastard would have disclosed it to the duchess.’

He had been trained to keep quiet in a process close to brainwashing for several years. So, he wouldn’t have revealed what he knew so easily.

But apart from that, it was hard to ignore the possibility that Incan could have acted suspiciously towards the duchess.

She had an excuse for his behavior prepared, but even so, a small part of her still felt uneasy. After all, you never know when, where, or how suspicions may arise.

“Tch. If only we had been just a little faster.”

Rebecca thought of the subordinate who followed her orders.

If Incan had been caught by himself, they could have said he died getting robbed.

Or if Incan had been caught while with the duchess, they could have said that he had committed suicide after killing the duchess.

Both were clean conclusions.
