Chapter 101: THE NEW MADAM?

"AHJUMMA, you don’t have an infectious disease, do you?" Wonyoung asked worriedly. "I’m sorry for sounding insensitive, but we have two young kids. We don’t want them to get sick."

Yeah, he probably sounded rude because it was the first thing he said after Shaman Ahra returned to the room. The shaman excused herself earlier to go to the bathroom, right after she coughed up blood.

And, yes, I’m still calling her ’ahjumma.’

"I am not sick," Shaman Ahra denied while shaking her head. "I simply exhausted myself from using too much divine power today."

"Then go home and rest," Wonyoung said. Of course, he wouldn’t miss that opportunity to send away the person who was making him feel uncomfortable. "Ahjumma, you’re not young anymore. You should take better care of yourself."

"I appreciate your concern, Wonyoung-ssi. But we must settle this today," the shaman said calmly. "I understand why you want Madam Kang Chunja-nim to be imprisoned. But can you afford the aftermath? Madam Kang Chunja-nim is a veteran actress whom the general public still cares about. Once the reporters get a whiff of her arrest, then it’s going to be a big scandal. And once it becomes a big mess, the reporters will dig more information about her arrest. Then it will only be a matter of time before they find out that Madam Kang Chunja-nim’s hidden son from her affair is none other than Yun Dujun-nim, the country’s top actor at the moment."

Wonyoung slightly flinched.

I don’t want Dujun Hyung’s past to get revealed that way.

"Don’t use me to threaten my husband, Ahjumma. I don’t mind if the reporters find out the truth about my birth," Yun Dujun said coldly. "And let me correct you: I’m not a product of an illicit affair— I’m a product of rape."

Wonyoung’s heart broke after hearing that from Yun Dujun.

It was the truth, but that didn’t mean the Alpha wasn’t hurting.

Nobody wants to know that they were born from a sexual assault.

Wonyoung wasn’t the only one whose heart went out to Yun Dujun.

He could clearly see the sympathy in Han Hyunjin’s eyes.

Meanwhile, Yun Hyuk had an unfathomable look on his face.

My father-in-law is a victim, but so is Dujun Hyung.

"Enough talking about this nonsense!" Yun Dongjin yelled angrily. For someone who was already in his late eighties, this grandpa was still full of energy— negative energy, that is. Then the (very) old man glared at Wonyoung. "Let’s compromise, you stubborn brat."

Tsk.

Wonyoung didn’t want to compromise, but he had no choice but to do so.

I have to give up on my dream of seeing my evil mother-in-law behind bars because her arrest would bring a huge scandal to our family.

And he didn’t want the reporters to have a field day because of Yun Dujun’s life story.

"Alright, Grandfather. Let’s compromise," Wonyoung said, sighing to show that he was displeased. "I’m only doing this because I choose my family’s peace. But if your offer isn’t satisfactory, then let’s forget about this."

"How dare you talk to me like that?" Yun Dongjin asked, scoffing. "Who do you think you are? Know your place, Bae Wonyoung."

"I know my place, sir," Wonyoung said firmly, but still polite. "I am Dujun Hyung’s husband and the adorable son-in-law of this family."

Yun Dongjin scoffed. "That is only a temporary place in the family, you foolish brat."

"You’re wrong, Grandfather," Yun Dujun said sternly. "It’s true that I only married Bae Wonyoung because I needed an Omega who’d give birth to my heir. But I’m happy and proud to announce that Bae Wonyoung and I have become a real couple now."

Aigoo.

Wonyoung didn’t expect Yun Dujun to announce their relationship like that, so he was pleasantly surprised.

Though his parents-in-law didn’t look that shocked?

Did they already know?

It was a relief that Han Hyunjin and Yun Hyuk didn’t seem opposed to Wonyoung’s relationship with Yun Dujun.

Whew.

Only Yun Dongjin looked mad about it.

"Is this why you have the audacity to talk back to me?" the grandpa asked Wonyoung, still obviously pissed. "Because you know that my grandson has your back?"

"Grandfather, it doesn’t matter whether Dujun Hyung will take my side or not," Wonyoung insisted firmly. He didn’t want his grandfather-in-law to have the wrong idea about him, after all. "If you’re rude to me, then I’ll be rude to you as well. I give people the basic respect that everyone deserves. But if you can’t give me the same treatment, then I’ll give you back the same energy."

"That’s true, Abeoji," Yun Hyuk said to his father. "Our son-in-law scolded us the first time we met."

Wonyoung blushed, still embarrassed about his behavior back then.

"But we deserved it," Yun Hyuk added. "Just as much as you deserve to be treated like this by our son-in-law, Abeoji."

Yun Dongjin’s face turned red from anger. "You—"

"Let’s stop protecting the woman who almost killed Bae Wonyoung twice, Abeoji," Yun Hyuk said firmly. "Even if we can’t put that woman in jail, there are other ways to keep her imprisoned."

Oho?

Wonyoung was glad that his Alpha father-in-law was taking over the conversation now.

And Father-in-law is leaning towards my favor.

"I suggest keeping that woman locked up in the temple," Yun Hyuk said, glancing at the shaman who visibly flinched. "Since Shaman Ahra-ssi is fond of that woman, why don’t the two of you spend quality time together?"

Heh.

Wonyoung wanted to smirk, but he held back.

Go, Father-in-law. I’m rooting for you~

"Keeping Kang Chunja locked up in the temple won’t suffice, of course," Han Hyunjin said. The older Omega looked and sounded calm, but he was clearly enjoying talking about Kang Chunja’s punishment. "We should take everything away from her while she’s repenting for her sins. Yes, even her phone. I suggest we only provide basic necessities for her. With this, we can make sure that she can’t use her money or influence to send people to harm my son-in-law."

Yun Dongjin looked like he was about to protest, so Wonyoung spoke loudly.

"I agree with Appa and Father-in-law’s suggestions."

Yun Dongjin glared at Wonyoung, so Wonyoung averted his gaze.

I’m not scared of Grandpa, okay? I just don’t want to pick a fight with him when my parents-in-law are already taking care of most stuff.

"If I may add, I also want Ahjumma to make a pledge that you won’t help my mother more than necessary. I guess I don’t need to explain since you know what exactly I’m talking about," Yun Dujun said coldly. "Ahjumma, stop it, okay? This will be my last warning for you."

"Yun Dujun, watch your mouth," Yun Dongjin said, scolding Yun Dujun sternly. "If it weren’t for Ahra-ssi, you wouldn’t have been allowed to be born—"

"My husband did not ask to be born, so he shouldn’t be grateful to the adults who planned his birth in a horrible way," Wonyoung said coldly. "Grandfather, my husband doesn’t owe anyone in this family."

Yun Dongjin grabbed the back of his neck as if he were about to die from stress.

Wonyoung ignored the (very) old man’s theatrics and looked at Shaman Ahra directly. "Ahjumma, I know why my mother-in-law hates me."

Okay, at this point, he was just bluffing to get the upper hand.

I’ll trust you on this, An Baekya.

"Mother-in-law’s role as the one who brings luck and prosperity to this family has already ended," Wonyoung said. To be honest, he was getting goosebumps because of his cringey lines. But he had to act confident in front of the shaman. "Isn’t it my turn to fulfill that role now?"

Shaman Ahra’s eyes widened— clearly shocked.

And the shaman’s reaction shocked everyone in the room, including Yun Dujun.

Ahjumma made it obvious that I hit the bull’s eye.

"Is it true, Ahra-ssi?" Yun Dongjin asked curiously. "Is that brat the new symbol of luck and prosperity of this family?"

This grandpa keeps calling me ’brat...’

"Yes, sir. I was planning to announce it after we settled Madam Kang Chunja-nim’s case," Shaman Ahra said, and then she looked at Wonyoung curiously. "How did you know all of this, Wonyoung-ssi?"

Once again, all eyes were on Wonyoung.

I suck at lying, but thank goodness I’m good at acting.

"I’m not sure if you’ll believe me. Actually, I didn’t say anything until now because I thought it was ridiculous," Wonyoung said awkwardly. His awkwardness was 50% acting and 50% genuine. "I don’t remember much about it, but I had a dream where someone told me that I have the role of bringing luck and prosperity to the Yun Clan."

And that person is An Baekya, who came from the ’future,’ which is dream-like, so it’s not really a complete lie.

WONYOUNG’S knees collapsed as soon as he returned to Yun Dujun’s bedroom.

Of course, the Alpha was quick to catch him.

And his husband didn’t just catch him, he also scooped him up and carried him to the bed.

"Are you alright, Wonyoung-ah?"

"Yes, Hyung. I’m just relieved that it’s finally over," Wonyoung said, sighing. "Talking to your grandfather and the shaman ahjumma was so draining."

"I understand what you mean," Yun Dujun said, pausing for a moment. "But did you really have that dream, Wonyoung-ah?"

Hmm.

Wonyoung hadn’t decided yet whether to tell Yun Dujun the truth or not, so...

Let’s buy some time for now.

"Can we eat first, Hyung? I’m famished."

"Oh, of course," Yun Dujun said immediately. "Is there anything you want to eat in particular?"

"Kimchi dumpling," Wonyoung answered without missing a beat since he had been craving it since earlier. "I want kimchi dumpling, Hyung."
