Chapter 158: OVERWRITTEN

WONYOUNG finally remembered what happened to him after he got into an accident in the other, normal world.

He was about to meet the writer who wrote ’Endless’ and ’Chained to You,’ but he got into an accident. When he opened his eyes, he found himself inside what seemed like a white, empty room.

Then a huge ass old book with blank pages suddenly started ’talking’ to him.

By ’talking,’ he meant words suddenly appeared on the blank pages.

[Welcome, Bae Wonyoung.

You are here because you were given a chance to return to your past and start anew.]

"What are you talking about?"

And, just like that, Wonyoung received the memories of his past life from the weird book.

Oh, wow.

So, the novel that he had read wasn’t just a novel— it was his life story.

Then does it mean...

"Did my baby really turn out that way?" Wonyoung asked, horrified. "Did Yuhyun really do all those bad things to An Baekya?"

Maybe what he wanted to ask was if Yun Yuhyun had really become a monster.

If ’Endless’ was based on his life story and turned out to be real, then ’Chained to You,’ which was based on Yun Yuhyun’s life story...

No, it couldn’t be.

However, the System immediately crushed his hopes.

[Yes, Yun Yuhyun did all of that to An Baekya.]

Haaah.

Wonyoung clutched his chest tightly when he felt a pang in his heart.

Yuhyun-ah...

"This is all my fault."

He was the one who gave birth to Yun Yuhyun, after all.

"I was too busy chasing Dujun Sunbae-nim’s love that I neglected our son. I was even stupid enough to fall for Lee Heeju’s tricks," Wonyoung said bitterly. "If only I focused on Yuhyun and raised him properly, then an innocent person like An Baekya wouldn’t have his life ruined..."

[And you have the chance to change not only your life, but the fate of your son and your future son-in-law, too.]

Right.

This giant old book did say something like that earlier.

"Are you telling me that you’ll bring me back to the past? Then that should happen before I die, correct?"

[Correct.

We’ll bring you back the moment after you gave birth to Yun Yuhyun— that was his wish.]

"It was my son who gave me this chance?"

[Yun Yuhyun is the heir of the Yun Clan’s treasure— and he used that treasure to turn back time for you, Bae Wonyoung.]

Oh.

That treasure was the reason why Yun Dujun’s grandfather allowed Yun Dujun’s mother to do that to Chairman Yun without consequences.

It was also the reason why Wonyoung was allowed to marry Yun Dujun and have his child.

So, it was real, after all.

I thought it was just all bullshit.

"Will I remember everything once I’m back?"

[Yes, you should.

After all, you need your old memories to navigate your past life.]

That was a relief.

"Then let’s do that," Wonyoung said sternly. "Bring me back to my old life— I’ll raise Yun Yuhyun properly this time."

Even if it means I have to give up on Dujun Sunbae-nim.

"I’m sorry, but I also need this chance, Father-in-law."

Huh?

There were two things that surprised Wonyoung then.

First, the old book suddenly ’glitched’— the writings on the pages disappeared, and the old book fell to the floor.

As soon as the old book hit the ground, the size was reduced to that of a normal book.

But the most surprising part would be...

"An Baekya?"

Wonyoung was long dead when Yun Yuhyun got married, and the book that he had read had no pictures of An Baekya.

However, he could tell right away who the beautiful man was.

That and because he called me ’Father-in-law.’

"Yes, I’m an An Baekya, sir," An Baekya answered politely with a bow. "It feels surreal to meet here, doesn’t it?"

Wonyoung just nodded, and then his gaze fell on the man standing next to An Baekya. "And who’s that?"

He had no problem with his eyesight, but...

Why can’t I see that man’s face?

"I’m sorry, Father-in-law, but I can’t introduce you to my trump card," An Baekya said. "And we don’t have much time left, so allow me to get straight to the point— forget about Yun Yuhyun and pour all your love to me."

What?

Wonyoung blinked slowly, surprised by what he had just heard. "An Baekya, you are my son-in-law. I’ll take care of you as well once I return to the past. But you can’t ask me to forget about my son and love you instead. A parent’s love doesn’t work that way."

"I wasn’t asking, Father-in-law."

Oh.

"I guess you’re also here for the treasure," Wonyoung said, putting the pieces together. "Yun Yuhyun gave me this chance. Who gave yours?"

"No one— that’s why I’m stealing yours, Father-in-law."

"With the help of that person?"

"I was under the impression that you weren’t in your right mind, Father-in-law. But you’re quick-witted. Is it because you’re no longer under Lee Heeju’s influence?"

"So, you know everything."

"Maybe, maybe not."

Ah, this kid has no intention of telling me anything.

"An Baekya, I don’t know what you meant by stealing my chance, but I won’t let you waste the chance that my son gave me," Wonyoung said firmly. "I’m sorry, but can’t we just work together?"

"It doesn’t work that way, Father-in-law," An Baekya said. "I’m sorry, and goodbye— you won’t remember anything about this once you return to the past."

***

KIDS these days are so damn scary.

That was what Wonyoung thought while looking at An Baekya now.

His (former) son-in-law had regressed as a child, but An Baekya still possessed the cold and cunning eyes that he remembered.

And this ’kid’ has been manipulating me ever since I woke up without my old memories.

"There’s one thing I don’t understand, An Baekya," Wonyoung said. To be honest, he didn’t know how he could stay calm. He probably couldn’t fully resent An Baekya because of guilt— because he knew Yun Yuhyun had done unspeakable things to his poor (former) son-in-law. "You could have just asked for my help then. Honestly, even if you didn’t, I would have still looked for you to give you a better life."

"That was an option, but I would have lost my old memories had I chosen that," An Baekya said indifferently. It was obvious the kid was already building up a wall between them. "I wanted to keep my memories of the original timeline."

"Why?"

"Because I wanted to have my revenge against Yun Yuhyun."

"Ah, I shouldn’t have asked."

"Yes, stealing your love was the key to tricking the System into letting me return with you," An Baekya revealed. "Yun Yuhyun is the heir of the Yun Clan’s treasure. But Yun Yuhyun wouldn’t have been born without you, Appa. You have privileges as his mother."

I guess I deserve that kind of reward— and I plan to utilize it now.

"But I thought stealing your love from Yun Yuhyun was also one way to hurt him."

"Ah, you really hate my son."

"Can you blame me, Appa?"

"No, but I can’t let you hurt my son either," Wonyoung said firmly. "Baekya, I feel bad for you. I really do. But Yuhyun is an innocent child right now. He’s not the Yuhyun who hurt you. That’s why I’ll protect my son this time."

"Is that why you’re kicking me out of the house, Appa?"

"Yes, and I have another reason for doing so."

"And what would that be?"

"Why would I tell you?" Wonyoung asked bitterly. "You’ve been manipulating me all this time, Baekya. I’m sorry, but I can no longer trust you."

"Ah, that makes sense."

"You’ve made your bed, Baekya— now lie in it."

An Baekya only smiled bitterly.

"We will still continue to provide for you until we find your uncle. Once we do, we’ll make him your legal guardian," Wonyoung said, his voice a little sad. "I wanted to raise you with Yuhyuhn, Baekya. I really do. But if you’re unwilling to forget about your revenge, then I’m sorry— I’m sorry for choosing my son."

YUN DUJUN received a call from Han Myung— whom he asked to stay behind to guard Bae Wonyoung— when his conversation with Song Sihyuk had just finished.

In fact, they were all ready to leave.

The kids were already back at their table, waiting for them to wrap it up, after getting themselves a milkshake.

"Excuse me," Yun Dujun said politely. "I need to pick up this call."

Song Sihyuk just nodded.

"Sir, Bae Wonyoung-nim is already awake. Uhm, actually, Bae Wonyoung-nim woke up as soon as you left the hospital with Young Master Yuhyun."

"What? Then why are you telling me just now?!"

"I’m sorry, sir. But Bae Wonyoung-nim asked me not to tell you yet. A-And he asked us for Young Master Baekya as soon as he woke up. So, the young master is here now."

What?

Why would Bae Wonyoung ask for An Baekya suddenly?

"Alright. I’m heading back with Yuhyun now."

"Uhm, sir. There’s another reason why I called you. Actually, Shaman Mija is asking if she could visit Bae Gayoung-nim in the ICU..."

"Why would she want to visit Bae Gayoung?"

"Are you talking about Mija?" Song Sihyuk asked, shamelessly eavesdropping on Bae Wonyoung’s phone call. "She did tell me that she wanted to check on someone who’s in a coma before we headed here."

Wow.

These shamans are really legit...

"The shaman of Kim Heedo’s family sent Mija some herbal medicines yesterday," Song Sihyuk said. "That esteemed shaman is known for his healing abilities."

Oh.

These shamans are really legit— legitimately scary, that is.

Yun Dujun sighed. "Fine, let that girl visit Bae Gayoung— but keep an eye on them."

WHEN YUN Dujun arrived in the hospital with Yun Yuhyun in his arms, he was surprised to see Aunt Rosa and Uncle George outside.

"Why are you just standing there?"

"Bae Wonyoung-nim didn’t want to let us in," Aunt Rosa said. "He’s still talking to Young Master Baekya."

Oh.

"But I wanna see Papa," Yun Yuhyun demanded, and then he shouted. "Papa, I’m here!"

"Yuhyun-ah, don’t yell in the hallway—"

"Come in, Yuhyun-ah."

Yun Dujun stopped scolding Yun Yuhyun when he heard Bae Wonyoung’s voice.

I’ve missed hearing my husband’s voice so much.

"You, too, Sunbae-nim."

Yun Dujun didn’t waste time and immediately entered the room with Yun Yuhyun.

An Baekya was there, obviously.

But...

The air is cold and heavy.

"Daddy, put me down."

As soon as Yun Dujun put Yun Yuhyun down, his son ran towards Bae Wonyoung.

"Papa, you’re awake!"

Yun Yuhyun immediately climbed up the bed to sit next to his Omega father.

Bae Wonyoung smiled, and then he burst into tears while hugging their son. "Yuhyun-ah, I’ve missed you so much."

"Me, too, Papa," Yun Yuhyun said while hugging back Bae Wonyoung. "I’ve missed you, too."

It was a heartwarming scene for Yun Dujun.

That helped him calm down, even though An Baekya’s presence was ruining the mood.

The older Yuhyun asked me not to resent Baekya, but...

***

THE ROOM was quiet after the children left.

Only Wonyoung and Yun Dujun were left there.

And the Alpha was quiet, obviously confused by what had just happened.

Hyung must be confused by my order.

After all...

"Hyung, are you wondering why I sent the kids home separately?"

"Yes," Yun Dujun answered immediately while nodding. The Alpha was that curious. "Why did you ask Uncle George to drop off An Baekya at your new house? And you asked Han Gunil to drive Yuhyun to my brother’s place."

"Hyung, I want you to stay with Yuhyun at your brother’s house in the meantime. I’ll stay with An Baekya at my new house."

"Why?"

"I want to protect our son."

"From An Baekya?"

"Hyung, I saw this earlier," Wonyoung said, picking up the manuscript on the bedside table. "Did you read this?"

It was a novel titled ’Rewind.’

And it was Bae Wonyoung’s life story.

"I asked Han Myung-ssi earlier, and he said you found this in Bae Gayoung’s belongings," Wonyoung said, smiling bitterly. "This is probably why my poor cousin got into an ’accident.’"

"Wonyoung-ah..."

"Hyung, what if I tell you that this novel isn’t just mere fiction?"

"I know," Yun Dujun said bluntly, shocking Wonyoung. "That’s what happened in the original timeline, right?"

Wonyoung’s eyes widened in shock. "How did you know, Hyung?"

"Yuhyun," Yun Dujun said in a whisper. "He was here— the older Yuhyun."
