I'll Raise My Future Omega Son-in-law-Chapter 82: TESTING THE WATERS
"DAEPYONIM, I’m sorry, but I used your name and claimed that you were willing to invest in my drama in case the current investors backed out."
That was what Wonyoung said as soon as Spencer Choi picked up his call.
He could talk like that because he had already left the officetel. So, right now, he was in the backseat of the car that Han Myung was driving. They were headed home since his schedule for that day was over.
"Sunbae-nim told me that he had already talked to you about this matter. But I still have consulted you before I said something like that to Director Kang and the others."
"You’re such an overthinker, Wonyoung-ssi."
Oh?
Judging by how lighthearted Spencer Choi’s tone was, it seemed like he wasn’t mad that Wonyoung didn’t call him in advance before name-dropping him to Director Kang Dusik.
Thank goodness.
"If Yun Dujun tells you that he has already taken care of everything, then just trust him."
"It’s hard to completely trust Dujun Sunbae-nim, Daepyonim. I’m sorry. I mean, I wanted to trust Sunbae-nim, too. But I’m scared that he might abandon me if his mother asks him, so I don’t want to depend on him 100%."
"Oh. That’s understandable, then."
"Thank you for being understanding, sir."
Spencer Choi chuckled before switching to business mode.
"Anyway, I’m free tomorrow. I’ll appreciate it if you can set me up a meeting with Director Kang Dusik, Wonyoung-ssi. It’s better to discuss such an important business in person."
Wonyoung bowed, even though Spencer Choi couldn’t see him. "Thank you, sir."

"HOW was Kim Seojun’s acting, Appa?"
"I can’t judge it yet since Kim Seojun-ssi didn’t take the audition seriously," Wonyoung answered An Baekya’s question while the two of them were watching a drama in his bedroom. The two of them sat on the floor while facing the huge TV screen. "He was confident that he’d be chosen as the lead because the investors had his back. But he claimed that he could act properly if he wanted to. I guess there’s a reason he got famous in your timeline."
"To be fair, Kim Seojun can act."
Pfft.
Wonyoung was listening, but he couldn’t help but smile while watching An Baekya’s cheeks turn puffy while eating tteokbokki.
He brought home tteokbokki and fish cake for the kid.
We rarely eat food like that when Dujun Sunbae-nim is home, so I wanted to treat An Baekya to something I know he’d like.
And he did right.
"Kim Seojun isn’t the best at acting, but he sure can captivate the audience with his face and charisma," An Baekya explained. "The general public in my timeline adored him for being the perfect Omega."
"Oh. I agree with that. When he doesn’t open his mouth, Kim Seojun looks innocent."
"Innocent, my ass."
Aigoo.
It’s really strange to hear a ’child’ talk like that.
"Kim Seojun is anything but innocent," An Baekya said bitterly. "You’ll find out later, Appa."
"You’re making it sound like he’s dangerous, Baekya."
"He is, Appa. That’s why I told you to be careful around him. And stay away from him as much as possible."
"Will I be okay, then?" Wonyoung asked worriedly. "What if his powerful backer gets back at me for ’stealing’ the role from Kim Seojun?"
"Appa, you have Yun Dujun-ssi and Mr. Spencer Choi to protect you."
"Are they richer and more powerful than Kim Seojun’s sponsor?"
"Appa, Hosung Group is the second largest conglomerate in the country. While Yun Dujun-ssi is only a quasi-chabeol, Naville Corporation is already an integral part of our economy. Plus, if push comes to shove, I’m sure Lee Heeju would also protect you. Who the hell would voluntarily pick a fight with the Junsung Group?"
"That’s true, but why would Lee Heeju Ahjussi protect me?"
"Because he wants to earn brownie points from Yun Dujun-ssi."
"I don’t know why, but hearing that is annoying."
"Appa, you should stop that ahjussi from stealing your man."
"Who’s ’my’ man, you brat?"
"You and Yun Dujun-ssi obviously like each other. It’s kinda stupid that you’re not yet officially together when you’re already married with two kids," An Baekya said bluntly. "Why are you worried so much about Yun Dujun-ssi’s mother? I get that you were traumatized because Kang Chunja almost killed you before, Appa. But she’s an old woman now. She’s not going to live forever."
Wonyoung suddenly had a hiccup after hearing such things from An Baekya.
I know that he’s an adult mentally, but that’s still a little too harsh to say...
"Baekya, is my mother-in-law going to die... soon?"
"I don’t know when exactly Kang Chunja died in my timeline. I’m just saying that she’s not as scary as you think she is, Appa."
"But she’s being protected by the Yun Clan’s state shaman."
"It’s kinda your fault, Appa."
"Excuse me?"
"I won’t say much, but both you and Kang Chunja bring luck to the Yun Clan by giving birth to the Alphas destined for greatness," An Baekya said casually. "So, both you and Kang Chunja received the blessing of the deity."
"Deity?"
"The god that the shaman serves."
Oh.
"Kang Chunja embraces her role, so the deity favors her. In return, the state shaman protects her," An Baekya said, sounding quite bitterly. "Since Appa has been avoiding your destiny, where do you think the blessing that should have been yours has gone to?"
Oh.
That got Wonyoung thinking.
Was the blessing he had been ’avoiding’ going straight to Kang Chunja?
Is that why my evil mother-in-law wants me dead?
***
WONYOUNG tried to ask An Baekya more about the shaman topic, but the kid said he had already shared what he needed to say.
In short, it’s up to me to figure out the rest.
But all he could do was to lie down on his bed and stare at the ceiling after taking a shower.
He couldn’t sleep yet because his brain was busy working.
How should I embrace my destiny? By letting myself fall for Dujun Sunbae-nim? Will my mother-in-law lose her power and influence within the family if I do that?
It was making his head ache.
But, to be honest, Wonyoung was a little enlightened.
If the problem regarding my evil mother-in-law is solved, then I don’t have any reason to hold back from liking Dujun Sunbae-nim?
The only problem was finding out whether Yun Dujun felt the same for him or not.
I know that Dujun Sunbae-nim is horny for me. But I want to know if we can fall in love with each other and become a real family.
Wonyoung’s daydreaming was interrupted when his phone rang.
Speak of the devil...
"Sunbae-nim."
"Daepyonim called me earlier. Did someone bully you during the audition? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have reached out to him."
"I technically passed the audition, Sunbae-nim. But the director wanted to drop me because Kim Seojun-ssi threatened him with the investors’ support. Then, Writer Shin asked if they could just look for other investors because she really wanted to cast me for the main role. Before I knew it, I had already dropped Daepyonim’s name."
Wonyoung was whining, yes.
Luckily, it seemed like Yun Dujun didn’t mind.
"Good job, Hoobae-nim. You already did your part by passing the audition. Leave the rest to us."
"Will you and Daepyonim really be alright, Sunbae-nim? I heard Kim Seojun-ssi’s sponsor is pretty powerful."
It wasn’t like Wonyoung didn’t believe An Baekya.
He just wanted to hear it straight from Yun Dujun so he would stop worrying about it.
"Hoobae-nim, are you worried about Daepyonim?"
"Of course, I am. Daepyonim is the one who’s going to go against the other investors publicly. What if Hanbyeol Entertainment gets in trouble? I heard Kim Seojun’s sponsor has the power to blacklist people in the industry."
It was something that Wonyoung heard from Writer Shin Yuna.
"Spencer Choi is the youngest son of Hosung Group. He’s practically untouchable. So, don’t worry about him. It’s making me upset."
"You’re upset that I’m worried about Daepyonim?"
"Yes."
Aigoo.
Wonyoung couldn’t help but smile, feeling giddy all of a sudden. "Sunbae-nim, you’re not upset. You’re probably jealous to hear me worry about another man."
Yes, he was testing the waters.
"I suppose you’re right, Hoobae-nim— I’m jealous when you pay attention to another man. Especially if it’s a fellow Alpha."
Ah, that was pretty disappointing.
So, Sunbae-nim is only jealous because another Alpha is ’threatening’ to steal his Omega. In short, it’s his instinct kicking in and not his feelings.
"Is that all, Sunbae-nim?"
"Whether it’s an Alpha, Beta, or Omega, I think I’d still be pissed if you pay attention to them to the point of worrying about them."
Oho?
"I want you to only pay attention to me, Bae Wonyoung."
Wonyoung silently punched the pillow while holding back from squealing. "Sunbae-nim, you like me. Don’t you?"
Unfortunately, Yun Dujun didn’t get to answer that question because...
"Daddy! Are you talking to Papa?"
Oh.
Wonyoung beamed when he heard Yun Yuhyun’s voice. "Sunbae-nim, let’s switch to video call," he said excitedly. "I want to see my baby."
