I'm The King of Business & Technology in the Modern World-Chapter 123: The Morning After
Matthew Borja stepped into the sleek, glass-paneled headquarters of Sentinel Systems, the hum of a new workday already in motion. Employees moved with purpose, screens flickered with real-time data, and the distant murmur of executives on phone calls filled the air.
It was business as usual.
Except, for Matthew, last night was still lingering in the back of his mind.
Angel. The club. The teasing. The way she’d clung to him, her body warm against his. The way she had tried to push him, to test his limits.
And most of all, the way he had barely managed to hold himself back.
He smirked to himself as he made his way to his office.
The elevator doors slid open, and as he stepped onto his floor, he spotted her immediately.
Angel sat at her desk outside his office, her elbows propped up, her head buried in her hands. Her hair was slightly messier than usual, and even from a distance, he could tell she wasn’t in top shape.
Matthew strolled over casually, suppressing the amusement creeping up his face.
"Rough morning?" he asked, leaning against her desk.
Angel groaned. "Kill me."
Matthew chuckled. "Tempting."
She peeked at him through her fingers, then winced. "God, you’re too loud."
"I’m barely talking."
She groaned again and reached for the coffee beside her, taking a slow sip as if it was the only thing keeping her alive. "What the hell happened last night? My head feels like someone ran over it with a truck."
Matthew smirked, enjoying this far too much. "You don’t remember?"
Angel froze mid-sip. Lowering her cup, she slowly blinked at him. "Wait. What?"
Matthew’s smirk widened. "That’s disappointing, Angel. After everything we did, and you don’t remember?"
Her entire body stiffened.
Matthew saw the panic flash in her eyes, the gears turning in her still-hazy mind. "What do you mean ’everything we did’?" she asked, her voice cautious.
Matthew shrugged, deliberately vague. "You were very… persistent last night."
Angel paled. "Persistent… how?"
Matthew let the silence stretch.
Angel set her coffee down a little too quickly, leaning forward. "Matthew. What. Happened."
He exhaled dramatically, as if recalling something scandalous. "You really wanted me to stay with you last night."
Angel’s mouth opened slightly.
"You grabbed my wrist," Matthew continued, his voice teasing. "You pulled me close. You practically begged me to—"
Angel shot up from her seat, eyes wide. "I did not!"
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure? Because from what I remember, you were very… hands-on." Stay updated through novelbuddy

Matthew bit back a laugh. "Oh, and you kept calling me ’warm’ and snuggling into my chest. Adorable, really."
She groaned. "Please tell me I didn’t say anything else embarrassing."
Matthew tapped his chin, pretending to think. "Well, there was a point where you said—"
"I don’t want to know!" she interrupted, slumping back into her chair.
Matthew laughed. "Relax. You passed out before you could say too much."
Angel peeked at him through her fingers again, her face still red. "So… nothing actually happened?"
Matthew smirked. "Oh, something almost happened."
Angel tensed.
Matthew leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "But I was the responsible one and said no. I’m a gentleman, after all."
Angel groaned louder, dragging her hands down her face. "You’re so annoying."
Matthew chuckled, clearly enjoying himself. "Would you rather I hadn’t been a gentleman?"
Angel threw a stapler at him.
Once she calmed down—and Matthew was certain she wouldn’t murder him—they finally returned to work.
Angel, despite her hangover, went over the latest updates on Sentinel BioTech. The R&D team had arrived in Singapore, the prototype development was moving forward, and the final batch of investors were scheduled for meetings next week.
Matthew listened, nodding along, though he couldn’t help but notice the way Angel still avoided eye contact.
"You’re being weird," he finally said.
Angel scowled. "No, you’re being weird."
Matthew smirked. "You’re still thinking about last night."
Angel crossed her arms. "You’re the one who keeps bringing it up!"
"Because it’s fun."
Angel sighed. "Can we please just pretend it never happened?"
Matthew tilted his head. "Now, where’s the fun in that?"
Angel glared. "I swear, if you keep teasing me, I will find a way to make your life hell."
Matthew leaned back, smirking. "Looking forward to it."
Angel groaned again, burying her face in her hands. "I hate you."
Matthew chuckled. "No, you don’t."
Angel peeked at him, her lips twitching. "Shut up."
Matthew simply grinned, leaning back in his chair, fully satisfied.
Because he knew this was far from over.
Angel spent the next few hours pretending to be deeply engrossed in work, but Matthew could see right through her. Every time he so much as glanced her way, she would either fake a cough, shuffle some papers, or suddenly become very interested in her screen.
He smirked.
She was avoiding him. And he was having way too much fun with it.
At exactly noon, Matthew pushed back from his desk and stood. "Lunch?" he asked, looking directly at Angel.
She didn’t even lift her head. "Busy."
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Too busy for food?"
"Yep."
He leaned against her desk, arms crossed. "Or are you too busy avoiding me?"
Angel finally looked up, shooting him a glare. "I am not avoiding you."
Matthew smirked. "Then let’s grab lunch."
She exhaled dramatically before standing. "Fine. But if you bring up last night again, I will stab you with a fork."
Matthew chuckled. "I’ll take my chances."
The two of them headed out, taking the elevator down to the company’s private parking area. As they walked toward Matthew’s car, Angel suddenly stopped.
Matthew turned. "What?"
Angel hesitated before crossing her arms. "Wait. Did I… did I try to kiss you last night?"
Matthew barely held back a grin.
He took a slow step closer, enjoying the way her bravado wavered just slightly.
"What do you think?" he asked, voice deliberately low.
Angel opened her mouth, then immediately shut it.
"I hate you," she muttered under her breath.
Matthew smirked as he unlocked the car. "No, you don’t."
Angel groaned as she got in, still avoiding his gaze.
Matthew chuckled as he slid into the driver’s seat.
