Chapter 177: Chapter 177: If it was upto me

Leo had to make a choice. If they had to maintain this speed, it was going to be problematic. After all, the ship wasn’t really made to race in space, especially in an area more densely packed with asteroids than most other sectors.

It was as if the Head of the Lionel Family had intentionally picked a location that was close to his home planet yet incredibly difficult to reach.

Leo was certain that a few of these asteroids were decoys, filled with space weapons capable of vaporizing even the strongest ships if the exact route wasn’t followed.

"Fine. I’ll get them to slow down. Just let me think of a good excuse," Leo said, watching the sparks in the cockpit grow brighter.

"Sir," the Branch Manager interrupted, pointing at the main viewscreen.

"Not now. I’m thinking..." Leo paced back and forth, lost in thought.

"The Lionel ships are slowing down. It looks like you won’t need to make them slow down. Our luck seems to be through the roof today. We made it," the Branch Manager said, causing Leo to raise his head.

Leo took another glance at the reactor, which looked as if it were on its last breath. "I don’t know about our luck, but the person who prepared this ship, if we can even call it that, will not have much luck after I get back."

The Lionel Family entourage entered the atmosphere of another planet. Even Leo was surprised by its appearance.

It was a tiny world, looking even smaller than a low-tier planet. Earth was already among the smaller planets, yet this one seemed to be only one-tenth its size.

What truly surprised him was that there were no reports of such a planet existing, even in the Union’s database. Then again, it was likely dismissed as a slightly larger star without value, and the asteroid belt further obscured it from view.

Leo’s ship entered the atmosphere and landed behind the massive vessels of the Lionel Family.

He didn’t dwell on the landing and quickly patted down his clothes. He reminded his team of the plan one last time before gesturing for the doors to be opened.

"Just to be sure, we just have to wait outside and prevent anyone from entering? Will that really be fine?" Yang asked Leo, repeating what he had just heard.

"Yeah. In any case, the Head would be suspicious if all of us entered. It’ll just make things complicated. So just wait outside. I will find what we need and return before you even know it."

Leo took his first step out of the ship, but not before placing a small translucent sticker on his throat to help him breathe properly, as the atmosphere wasn’t suitable for humans.

Once he landed on the barren planet, he was greeted by the sight of rocks as far as the eye could see. It was as if he had landed on a rocky mountain; the only difference was that the entire planet was like this.

The guards from the entourage had also stepped out of their ships. Most were carrying weapons, though some looked as if they didn’t need them in the first place.

Leo wasn’t an expert at recognizing superhumans, but after spending so much time in their company, his instincts had become unbelievably sharp.

The old man was accompanied by at least a hundred guards, and those were just the ones who had stepped out so far; Leo wasn’t sure how many remained inside. Among the guards he could see, a large majority felt like superhumans.

Just as he had suspected, the people Fiona could perceive in the shadows and the people who directly protected the Family Head were qualitatively different.

If the people sent by Fiona were strong, then the guards following this old man were even stronger.

Fortunately, they didn’t appear as strong as Ulen and Yang. Then again, given their numbers, Leo didn’t want Yang to actually fight them unless it was absolutely necessary.

He approached the old man without a hint of a frown, maintaining a calm, unhurried pace.

"So, where does the entrance open?" he asked the old man, intentionally checking his watch.

"It’s right here..." The old man didn’t explain. He simply reached out his hand, and a key appeared between his fingers.

The old man didn’t move toward a hidden door. Instead, he simply pressed the key into the empty air in front of him.

For a heartbeat, nothing happened. Then, the space itself seemed to come to life.

A golden crack split the air, spreading like fractured glass. There wasn’t a door opening in the mountains. It was as if a hole was being torn in reality.

"A hidden spatial realm akin to a parallel world," Leo mumbled, his eyes narrowing as he adjusted to the sudden brightness. "Not bad."

The old man cracked a smile. "Of course. We place a lot of importance on security, after all. While most people look for a fortress, I keep this dimension as my treasury."

"If it was up to me, I would have one such dimension in every branch of Lionel Family’s Banks. Unfortunately, these things can only be found, but not created. When I was younger, I was lucky enough to find one. This is also where my journey started..."

The old man looked like he was genuinely reminiscing about his past, now that he was talking about it.

He stepped through the spatial crack, his figure momentarily blurring as he transitioned between dimensions. Leo took a breath, felt the sticker on his throat recalibrating for the new atmosphere, and followed.

Stepping through was like walking through a wall of lukewarm water. The pressure changed instantly, and the silence of the barren mountain was replaced by the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant, even the sound of birds could be heard.

It was a stark contrast to the lifeless planet they had just arrived from.

Leo looked back. From this side, the rift was a floating window looking out onto the grey rocks of the planet. He could see his own ship, and the hundred Lionel guards standing like statues.
