Chapter 229: Chapter 229: No smoke without fire

"What the heck?"

Leo froze, his face twisting into pure bewilderment. His eyes shifted across the screen, jumping from one bolded headline to the next.

At first glance, it looked like typical tabloid trash, but a sense of unease began to tighten in his chest. Gossip like this hadn’t existed back when he was around, and he knew better than anyone that where there’s smoke, there was often a bonfire.

Leo tapped on the first headline, while getting out of the healing pod.

He was slightly distracted as he walked over to the side, picking up clothes that had been arranged for him.

While his eyes went from one line of the article to the other, he started wearing his clothes, even wearing his t-shirt backwards.

He donned a jacket on top, and moved to another article, not noticing anything strange about his t-shirt.

After going through a few articles, he had a rough gist of the events taking place in his company. And just as he thought, the news articles didn’t seem to be too exaggerated.

In these articles, there was a lot of good information, after all no media site wanted to publish false news about Alpha Corp, only to be taken to the cleaners.

Even if the media site owners hated Leo for his absolute control over earth, they still knew to never cross the red line.

Most of these articles were cross verified, and checked through multiple sources.

Moreover, in none of the articles, anything bad was said about Leo. It only talked about the possibility of a leadership change since Leo was missing.

"That’s absurd. As if they can take over my company just because I’m absent. It’s probably only a battle to get the power to make significant decisions. But still..."

Even though Leo understood that it wasn’t a sabotage directed towards him, he still didn’t like it. After all, he was only absent for a few months, and they were already fighting to decide the direction of his company without him.

He was truly pissed off. He had expected them to look for him after noticing his absence, putting everything else aside. But they were more busy in their own little fight?

At this point, he felt relieved that he hadn’t waited for them to come and rescue him. He didn’t even want to imagine how long he would’ve needed to wait, if not for eternity.

"Should I send them a message, and tell them to behave?" He thought, stepping out of the medical room.

However, just as he was about to type a message, he stopped himself.

"No... Let’s see how far they actually go. It might be an opportunity to see what’s truly in their hearts. If they don’t know where to stop, it might be time to clean house..."

Leo placed his communicator back in his pocket, and didn’t check any of the thousands of unread messages for now.

For now, he shifted his attention to the world where he was present. After all, he still had to recover his storage ring, and his protection ring that he received from the Seraphims.

He walked through the long corridor, and tapped a wall right outside the control room.

A small section of the wall opened, revealing a secret chamber which was filled with advanced weaponry, including ones that even Leo rarely used.

He selected a few weapons, including a gravity manipulated disk, which he kept in his pocket in the deactivated mode.

He also pulled another plasma gun just like the one that was stolen from him by the humans in the villa.

He returned to the command center, and took his seat on the Captain’s seat in the ship that only had him.

His legs were completely healed, and even the effects of medicine had been completely absorbed by his body. He felt as good as the first time he had come here.

He looked at the screens before him. One of them was showing the cliff, which was marked by him. It was the place where the goblin king would have appeared if he managed to get through the portal, and Leo really hoped that he would.

After all, even if that goblin had a dragon, could it really go against a massive advanced warship?

The only thing that made him worried was the possibility of that goblin king performing another Simulation, knowing what was waiting for him outside.

The only thing that made him feel like it wouldn’t be the case was that the Goblin King couldn’t see him in the simulations, which meant even the ship and any future related to his actions might be cloaked as well.

Leo could only hope for it, not being absolutely certain about how everything worked.

He shifted his attention to another screen, which was observing the villa where he was initially kidnapped.

Looking at the place, Leo thought about just blowing up the entire villa. After all, the rings would still survive an explosion. He could always pick them up later.

"Hmm? What are they doing standing on the roof?"

He suddenly saw a young man on the roof of the villa, looking towards the sky. Or rather, he was looking straight at the ship.

The young man was the leader of the group, or at least what Leo had assumed from what he saw.

"That bastard! Is he wearing my storage ring?"

Leo’s expressions twisted as he saw his storage ring on the young man’s finger. It was the worst feeling of having something precious taken away from him.

Even though no one else except him could open that storage ring, Leo still didn’t like someone else having it.
