Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Greed Or Freedom

"I have left two daggers. You can use them, or any other means that you prefer. You can even run and hide in the ship and use the surroundings to your advantage in this battle. But the battle will only end when only one of you is alive."

"Or if you don’t want to fight each other, you can also get together and try to attack me if you have the opportunity. If you think you are capable..."

Leo’s voice was cold. This time, he wasn’t going to show these vultures his back. After all, he had already learned his lesson.

Even though he offered them a choice to attack him, it was no different than them asking for death.

Leo went silent for a few moments, and thought of something amusing.

"You also have a third option. You can give up this test right at the start. In that case, I will not select my disciple from amongst you. I will leave you where I picked you from, and all of you will survive."

Although initially he didn’t want to give them a third choice, he wanted to see if they were actually going to choose it. Was their bond stronger than their greed?

Did they only stab strangers in the back, or was this habit inherently in their bones? He was really curious to see.

The click of the gravity device was the starting gun for a race into depravity.

Leo watched coldly, as the third option, the path of mercy and survival, was discarded before the sound had even finished echoing.

There was no discussion. No heartfelt plea for peace. There was only the sound of frantic breathing and the desperate scramble of bodies against the metal floor.

As soon as the gravity was removed, none even thought about attacking Leo, or even discuss amongst each other. There was no time.

Eight of the youngsters lunged as one. They didn’t look at each other as friends or allies. They looked at the two daggers as their only lifeline to a godlike future.

The girl, Sarah, froze for a split second, her heart beating against her chest like a trapped bird. She saw the madness in Mark’s eyes, the way the others bared their teeth.

The horror of it paralyzed her until the sheer instinct for self-preservation kicked in. Seeing them all lunge, she subconsciously threw herself forward as well, her fingers clawing at the air.

But she was too slow.

The eight boys collided. The sound of flesh hitting metal horrified Sarah even more.

Sarah was shoved back, tumbling across the floor as the pile-on became chaotic.

One boy managed to grab a hilt, but before he could even stand, three others were on him, biting, scratching, and slamming his hand against the deck to force a release.

Sarah scrambled backward, her hands shaking so violently she could barely push herself up. She looked at the center of the room, a mess of nine people, including herself, who had just been crying for mercy, now tearing at each other for a chance to be a disciple.

She hadn’t even touched a dagger. She was unarmed, smaller than most of them, and currently, the most vulnerable target in the room.

Even her boyfriend, who was a leader of the group, didn’t give him confidence. She didn’t know if he was actually going to attack her if he was the last one standing. She couldn’t be confident anymore after remembering his cold eyes just now.

"I can’t fight them,’ she thought screamed in her head. ’If I stay here, I’m dead.’

She looked toward the corridors of the massive ship. Leo had said they could use the surroundings to their advantage. He had said they could hide.

Didn’t it also mean that they could also find a weapon or something to protect themselves with, in this massive place? Even if she didn’t find anything, at least she could hide and try to survive?

Her eyes darted to Leo. He was leaning back in his captain’s chair, the flickering holographic displays casting a blue light over his indifferent face. He wasn’t stopping them. He looked like he was simply observing them.

"How pathetic," Leo said, his voice cutting through the sounds of the brawl.

Sarah didn’t wait to hear the rest. While the others were locked in a bloody struggle over the two pieces of steel, she turned and bolted toward the secondary hallway.

Her legs were already injured as she had been suppressed by heavy gravity for a long time. Still, even though her steps weren’t stable, she ran forth.

She didn’t have a weapon, and she didn’t have strength, but the ship was certainly large. Even though she hadn’t seen beyond this hall, she has seen this massive ship in the sky from the ground.

There was certain that it was like a small floating city in itself.

If she could just disappear into this massive metal maze, maybe she could wait. Maybe she could let them tire each other out.

Behind her, a sharp cry of pain rang out, followed by the unmistakable clang of a dagger hitting the floor again.

Leo watched the girl’s retreating back with a smile. ’What happened? Now you’re scared of stabbing people? Weren’t you first to stab me?"

He didn’t try to stop the girl even if he wanted to. After all, in this massive ship, what wasn’t within his control?

He was really curious to see who was going to be the last to survive. As for why he didn’t kill them outright, it was simple. Since these people loved to stab others, he just let them play by their own rules so he wouldn’t have to dirty his hand.

If they had given up on their greed and selected the first option, he might have actually considered letting them live, albeit still making them work in the construction field of his company as labor.

Unfortunately, they had chosen the path that was literally the worst path for them in this situation. It was just their personality, just as he had expected.

He was really intrigued, wondering how it was going to end. This was truly starting to get interesting for him.
