Chapter 164: Chapter 164: The Old Lair of the Lake_1

All the Sand Whales were staring intently at the three of them.

Their giant pupils were filled with terrifying ferocity!

However, not a single Sand Whale stepped into the valley.

It felt as if, in their eyes, this valley was a sacred and inviolable sanctuary.

「Several moments later.」

The three of them carefully approached the stone wall, their distance from the Sand Whale blocking the entrance barely a meter.

They could even distinctly sense its breath and hear its heartbeat.

Ling Yunfei looked at the stone wall. When he saw the name ’Ling Feng’, sorrow filled his face.

"Father..."

He murmured, reaching out to touch every stroke of the characters, tears welling up uncontrollably.

Qin Feiyang said, "Your father’s death is likely linked to the White Jade Serpent. I’ve already killed one, so consider that some measure of revenge for your father."

Feng Ling’er looked out at the sands beyond the exit and asked, "Was that the only White Jade Serpent?"

Qin Feiyang shook his head. "White Jade Serpents are already rare. We were quite lucky to encounter even one."

"Lucky?"

Feng Ling’er was startled and rolled her eyes at Qin Feiyang. Encountering such a brutal creature, and he calls it lucky? She really wondered if this guy had a screw loose.

"Are you that dense? Couldn’t you tell I was being sarcastic?" Qin Feiyang scoffed.

"You..." Feng Ling’er immediately flushed and gnashed her teeth.

"Enough, cut the nonsense," Qin Feiyang impatiently rebuked.

Ling Yunfei was grieving, and here they were, bickering. What was wrong with them?

However, the thought of that White Jade Serpent sent chills down his spine. If he’d been careless and gotten bitten, he would have likely shared Ling Feng’s fate. Moreover, that White Jade Serpent was not weak; it possessed at least the strength of a War King. Without Blue Snow, entering the valley would have been virtually impossible!

「After a while.」

Ling Yunfei wiped away his tears and said with a forced smile, "Alright, let’s go!"

「Inside the valley.」

It was eerily silent.

The three of them walked deeper into it without encountering a single beast.

Never mind beasts, they hadn’t seen so much as a single insect.

"Strange." Feng Ling’er frowned, looking puzzled. Is such a place worthy of the protection of so many Sand Whales?

They had been searching for a while but hadn’t found a single medicinal herb, let alone any kind of peerless treasures.

Ling Yunfei suggested, "It seems safe for now. How about we split up and search?"

"I agree. That would save a lot of time," Feng Ling’er said, raising her hand.

"I disagree," Qin Feiyang shook his head.

What if they encountered danger? He wasn’t afraid; he could simply hide in the ancient castle. Feng Ling’er and Ling Yunfei, however, had nowhere to run.

「Until dusk fell.」

They had nearly turned the entire valley upside down but found nothing of value.

The three of them sat on a rock by the lake, heads bowed, feeling extremely frustrated.

After expending so much effort to get in, they found nothing. Wasn’t this a blatant mockery?

Qin Feiyang turned to Ling Yunfei. "Think carefully again. Did your mother tell you anything else?"

Ling Yunfei shook his head.

Qin Feiyang frowned. "Let me see the map your father left you."

Ling Yunfei took out the map and handed it to Qin Feiyang.

Spreading out the map, Qin Feiyang studied it carefully, not missing any small detail.

After a moment, a hint of disappointment crept into his eyes.

This was simply a complete map of the valley; it didn’t seem to hide any other secrets.

He prepared to return it to Ling Yunfei.

But suddenly, he sniffed hard, a flicker of doubt in his eyes.

Then, he brought the map closer to his nose and sniffed. A faint, unusual fragrance reached his nostrils.

"Did you find something?" Ling Yunfei and Feng Ling’er looked at him, surprised and curious.

Qin Feiyang remained silent, his brow deeply furrowed.

「After a while.」

A brilliant smile lit up his face. "I understand now."

"Understand what?" Ling Yunfei and Feng Ling’er looked puzzled. What was this guy up to?

"Watch closely." Qin Feiyang smiled mysteriously, walked to the edge of the lake, and dipped the map into the water for a moment.

"What are you doing?" Ling Yunfei’s expression changed, and he rushed forward.

Although the map seemed useless now, it was a memento from his father and held great sentimental value.

"Don’t worry. The paper was treated to be waterproof; it won’t disintegrate," Qin Feiyang said, holding him back with a smile. He took the map out of the water, opened it, and looked at it again.

The map itself was unchanged, but a red arrow symbol had appeared over the drawing of the lake!

"Huh!" Feng Ling’er and Ling Yunfei exclaimed, utterly astounded. "Qin Feiyang, what is going on?"

"There’s a kind of specially processed ink that only becomes visible when it comes into contact with water. Once the water dries, it disappears," Qin Feiyang explained with a smile. "And it can last for hundreds of years. This type of ink usually emits a faint fragrance. It’s very subtle, however, and easy to miss if one isn’t paying close attention."

"Fragrance?"

The two of them paused in surprise, then leaned in to sniff it carefully.

"It really does!"

Feng Ling’er gave Qin Feiyang a strange look. "Ling Yunfei has carried it for so long and never noticed. You smelled it instantly. Do you have the nose of a dog or something?"

Qin Feiyang’s face darkened. "’Woman, can’t you show some decency in your speech?’ he said angrily. ’Besides, I noticed it because I’m observant. Unlike you, who’s careless and thoughtless. Be careful, or you’ll end up an old spinster!’"

"How dare you curse me!" Feng Ling’er gritted her teeth. Suddenly, she chuckled playfully. "And who was it that lay in my arms earlier, saying how fragrant I smelled? Little brother, could it be you have feelings for your elder sister?"

"Uh!" Ling Yunfei was dumbfounded, glancing at the two of them with a peculiar expression.

Qin Feiyang was also startled. Was he being teased by a woman? This is unbearable!

He took a step closer to Feng Ling’er, wrapped an arm around her slender waist, and said with a wicked grin, "Little minx, are you trying to play with fire? Perhaps I should indulge you?"

A blush instantly crept up Feng Ling’er’s pretty face.

"You bastard, how dare you molest me!"

「The next second.」

She flew into a humiliated rage and thrust her knee upwards forcefully.

Qin Feiyang hastily retreated, breaking out in a cold sweat. If that had landed, his family jewels would have been destroyed, wouldn’t they? This damned woman was truly vicious!

"AHEM!" Ling Yunfei couldn’t watch any longer and coughed dryly. He teased, "I don’t object to you two flirting, but shouldn’t we take care of important matters first?"

Qin Feiyang and Feng Ling’er both glared at him.

"Phew!" Qin Feiyang secretly let out a breath, tossed the map to Ling Yunfei, and turned to look at the lake. "Since the arrow points to this lake, there must be something important beneath it."

Ling Yunfei urged, "Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go down quickly!"

"Wait!" Qin Feiyang grabbed him, shaking his head. "Don’t be hasty. If your father left a mark, it means he definitely came here, and even entered the lake. But why didn’t he bring the items out?"

Hearing Qin Feiyang’s words, Ling Yunfei’s and Feng Ling’er’s expressions also grew grave.

Qin Feiyang continued, "I suspect this lake isn’t as calm as it looks on the surface."

With that, he picked up a basin-sized rock and hurled it forcefully into the center of the lake. It instantly sent large waves splashing high.

WHOOSH!!!

Simultaneously, from within those waves, streaks of white figures shot out.

The trio’s expressions changed drastically. They hurriedly ducked behind a large rock, drenched in cold sweat.

Because those white figures were none other than White Jade Serpents!

And it wasn’t just one or two.

It was an entire group!

A whole swarm!

It was hard to imagine just how many there were.

The three of them peeked out. The White Jade Serpents had already returned to the water, and the surface was gradually calming.

Feng Ling’er turned to Qin Feiyang, exclaiming in astonished anger, "Didn’t you say White Jade Serpents are rare? Why is there a whole nest of them here?"

Ling Yunfei said, a lingering fear in his voice, "Thankfully I didn’t jump in just now, or else..." He couldn’t help but shiver at the thought.

"’White Jade Serpents are indeed uncommon,’ Qin Feiyang mused. ’But we can’t look at this place with ordinary eyes. However, earlier, we didn’t see a single White Jade Serpent by the lakeshore. This means they are mostly concentrated in the center of the lake and at the bottom. The White Jade Serpent I encountered at the entrance likely heard the commotion outside and went to investigate. Which means, Ling Yunfei, your father wasn’t injured at the entrance. He was bitten by a White Jade Serpent *after* he entered the lake.’"

Ling Yunfei gazed at the lake, his expression sinking to an extreme low.

"This isn’t the time to think about revenge," Feng Ling’er said. "Besides, with so many White Jade Serpents, who knows which one bit your father back then?"

Ling Yunfei declared, "Then I’ll kill them all!"

"That also depends on whether you have the ability to do so now," Feng Ling’er retorted. "Let’s first figure out how to get into the lake!"

"I have a way to just enter the lake," Qin Feiyang said, his brow furrowed into a knot. "But getting out again will likely be almost impossible."

He could use the ancient castle to descend slowly to the bottom of the lake. But there was no way he could use the castle to ascend from the bottom. They’d have to swim up by themselves. But that plan was obviously a no-go.

After a moment of hesitation, Qin Feiyang said, "How about this: you two hide here and wait for me. I’ll go down and take a look. If anything unexpected happens, at least not all of us will be trapped at the bottom of the lake."

"Even if you reach the bottom of the lake, it’s no use," Ling Yunfei shook his head. "You can’t leave the ancient castle."

Qin Feiyang insisted, "We’ve come all this way; we can’t just turn back!"

Ling Yunfei said, "No. Since we came together, we should face any difficulties together. I’ll go down with you. Sister Ling’er, you wait outside."

"I don’t even have an Image Crystal Stone. What damn use is there in me waiting outside?" Feng Ling’er rolled her eyes.

"Enough arguing. Do as I say."

With that, Qin Feiyang walked to a large tree, drew Blue Snow, and felled it. He then cut the tree into several sections, throwing them into the lake one by one.

The final log floated in the center of the lake.

Several White Jade Serpents shot to the surface again. Seeing it was only wood, they quickly returned to the water.
