Immortal In A Death Game-Chapter 164: Farming Levels
[Name: Adam | Planet: SS4E | Strength: 34 Agility: 7 Endurance: 1 Perception: 1]
[Free Status Points: 13]
"Hmm..."
Adam stared at the words floating in front of him. And with a breath, he reached for the blue Crystal hovering in front of him.
Eleven points. Throughout the day, Adam had already accumulated eleven status points. And they weren’t done at all, no. He gripped the small blue Crystal, and it immediately cracked in his grip before shattering completely.
[1 Status Point granted]
[The Administrators are nodding their heads in approval at your display of efficiency.]
[Some of the Administrators are wondering why you do not use your free points.]
[The Administrator, Mikhail, is telling the other Administrators to disappear if they can not be quiet.]
[The other Administrators are telling Mikhail they want to give Adam ten gifts all at once.]
Adam’s ears and eyes were bombarded by the Administrators’ messages as the Leak dissolved around him. He waved them all away, focusing as the scenery around him shifted back to the carnage the Leak left behind.
Cars were littered like toys, and the corpses of the horse-like monster of the Leak he just closed were also scattered everywhere. But that wasn’t the worst part of it all—the worst part was the smell.
"That... that’s six now, right? Six Leaks in twenty hours?" Harvey sat heavily—no. He collapsed on the pavement, leaning against a bent lamppost. His elastic body, almost sagging like rope as he tried his best to open his eyes.
"Why... why are we even doing this...? This was a mistake. You... man. Why?"
He pointed at Adam, who could really only give Harvey a shrug.
"Are there... really this many High-risk Leaks?" he asked.
"There are, but we’re not supposed to clear all of them by ourselves!" Harvey groaned in frustration. "Throw your helicopter away, man. We’re always the ones "closest" to the scene because of that shit! Throw it away!"
"That..."
"Sometimes there is nothing for days, Adam," Beatrice answered his question, applying another nicotine patch to her neck. "Sometimes it’s like this—and... Harvey’s right. It’s because we keep responding to all the calls the others could take."
"...Sorry."
"Do not apologize—it is your first day. The more Leaks you experience, the better."
"Hmm..." Adam nodded, but he finally realized... the damage he was doing. Because they were the only team that had a helicopter, it caused them to respond to more emergencies since they could get there faster than the others.
He finally noticed the dark circles under Beatrice’s eyes, the way Harvey’s arms were turning limp. Even Mira was sitting on the ground now, back to his normal human form; her face filled with dirt.
"I’ll... get you guys some water," he said.
"Let me come with you." Mira approached him, but Adam quickly gestured to her to just stay put and relax. He looked her in the eyes, but also quickly looked away to avoid her gaze.
After he said no to her... sudden and random request, Mira actually hadn’t mentioned it again. But even tired, Adam could still feel her staring at him. Her head was even tilting to the side and studying particular... regions of his body.
You should have said yes, Adam. Aren’t you a virgin? You should do it—maybe you’ll grow a few inches. Shut up. Seriously, Adam... what’s the harm? Haven’t you seen society? There are a lot of people sleeping around. It wouldn’t hurt you or her.
Shut up.
Think about it. Really think about it. Wait a minute... You want the billionaire sisters, don’t you? Greedy, Adam. Very greedy. Shut up.
Or... are you actually still waiting for that doctor? She’s dead, Adam. Don’t believe Bjorn. If she was really alive, then she should have approached you by now after you revealed yourself to the world. But where is she? Where...?
Or maybe... she just doesn’t care for you at all? Your memories are messed up. Maybe you just imagined the way she treated you. Or maybe she does remember you, but doesn’t want anything to do with you at—shut up.
Adam shook his head and walked toward the relief tent that had been hastily erected near the safe zone. The IBAA and some volunteers were busy moving, but as soon as he approached, all of their conversations died.
They started whispering to each other, their eyes following him. Adam didn’t notice this, however, as he approached the volunteer manning the water station.
"Excuse me, Ma’am. Could I please get four bottles for my team?"
The woman quickly handed him the water... but she didn’t let go of them.
"Is... is it true you survived being burned by the Administrators?" she asked.
Adam went quiet for a moment, and the other people there all turned their heads, with some even leaning their bodies closer as they waited for him to answer.
But finally, after a few more moments, Adam nodded.
Suddenly, people were approaching from all directions. Survivors, volunteers, and even some of the local police officers who’d been maintaining the perimeter.
"Does this have something to do with this Hospital?" someone called out.
"Are you some sort of lab experiment by the government?"
"Did they inject you with something?! Is that why you survived?! If... if so, can I test it?!"
"Is there anyone else like you?"
"Did the government create the Games?"
And all of a sudden, the questions came from every direction. They pressed their faces closer to him, and he couldn’t even back away because there were also people behind him.
"Hey! Hey! People!" Fortunately for Adam, Harvey came to his rescue. "I know my man’s here is cute. But relax. Everyone just relax. If you want photographs, it’ll be fifty dollars."
The crowd reluctantly parted as Harvey pushed through, his arm stretching unnaturally to reach Adam’s shoulder.
"Thanks," Adam muttered as they walked away.
"What was that about?" Harvey asked.
"They probably saw the interview."
"Wait, you’re actually famous?" Harvey’s eyebrows shot up. "Like, celebrity famous? I still really haven’t searched about you and—"
<Hurry up. Another Leak just appeared.>
"Ah. Brahma, please stop creating Leaks." Harvey groaned, his shoulders sagging again as the two rushed back to the helicopter.
Two more Leaks. They cleared two more before the sun began to set and the emergency calls finally stopped coming. The helicopter touched down at the RLRD facility as darkness settled over the compound.
***
"Bwahahaha! Mira really asked you to have sex with her?!"
Rest in the RLRD, however, was completely overrated.
