Immortal In A Death Game-Chapter 185: Rematch, Once More
Why...? Why must it always be like this?
Adam’s body hit the ground hard.
Was it something you did, Adam? Was it something you did? Is it karma? Is it karma that everything around you just turns to shit? What about Katherine? You just reunited with her again... maybe it was better if you hadn’t.
He groaned, bouncing twice before rolling through the crushed flowers. Petals and dirt clung to his clothes as he came to a stop. Above him, Bjorn’s massive form blotted out the darkening sky, falling like a boulder.
Look at him, Adam. Another one of your mistakes.
Adam rolled weakly to the side. Bjorn’s fist cratered the earth where his head had been.
Before Adam could fully recover, another punch caught him in the ribs, launching him sideways through the air. His body spun helplessly, arms flailing, until Bjorn appeared behind him with impossible speed.
Both hands slammed down on Adam’s back, driving him into the ground with a force equivalent to that of a truck that lost its brakes.
The impact carved another small crater into the soft earth. Flower stems snapped and scattered. Adam lay motionless at the bottom, face pressed against the dirt.
Bjorn straddled him, raising both fists. The first blow hammered into the back of Adam’s skull. Then another. And another.
Each strike sent shockwaves through the ground. The crater deepened with every impact. Bjorn’s grotesque face twisted with each swing, blood tears streaming from his bulging eyes.
Adam didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. Didn’t even grunt anymore.
He just stared ahead at nothing, his expression completely blank. Empty.
If only you killed him, Adam. Look what your mercy did. Why are you avoiding looking at him? Look at him! You’re the one who did this.
The hammering continued. Bjorn’s knuckles split against Adam’s skull, but the wounds sealed instantly, the flesh writhing like living things.
No. You told him to run. That doesn’t matter. Now he’s suffering a fate worse than death.
Another blow. Another crater in the earth.
Death isn’t even that bad, Adam. You seek it. You’ve sought it for years—you couldn’t even offer him that? Now look. Look at him. Don’t look away. You did this. You could’ve stopped this from ever happening, but no. You had to play hero.
Bjorn’s massive hands wrapped around Adam’s throat, lifting him from the crater. With a roar that sounded more like a ratatusk than human, he hurled Adam across the field.
Adam sailed through the air, tumbling end over end. He didn’t try to land properly. Didn’t brace for impact. He just watched the darkening sky above, stars beginning to peek through the twilight.
Adam, this is your fault. You told him to run away, but did you really think he would be able to do that? Why? Because you’ve successfully run away from the Hospital for twenty years? You’re small, Adam. You’re incredibly small to find. This is your fault...
...Fix it.
Adam’s eyes suddenly snapped wide.
He spun in the air, feet finding the ground. He skidded backward through the flowers, leaving twin furrows in the earth. His grip on the Shion tightened. Through everything, every punch, every throw, every brutal impact—he hadn’t let go of the blade once.
Bjorn charged again, but something had changed. He wasn’t running upright anymore. His swollen torso forced him forward, hands and feet pounding the ground like some twisted beast.
Adam watched him approach, but even as he stared at him... his feet didn’t move.
Bjorn leaped, his left fist the size of a plate aimed at Adam’s head.
The punch connected. Adam’s feet skidded backward, carving more trenches in the soft earth. But this time, he didn’t fly away.
He didn’t fly away because he actually caught Bjorn’s massive fist. He leaned his head to the side, once again looking at Bjorn’s bulging eyes.
"Are you... still in there?" he quietly asked. Bjorn didn’t seem to like this at all, however, and only roared at Adam’s face. Well, if one could call that a roar.
Bjorn swung his other arm, but Adam yanked his fist down hard, pulling him. The sudden shift in momentum sent Bjorn crashing forward, his own weight working against him.
Adam stared into those bulging, bloodshot eyes again for a long moment.
"Are you still in there?" he asked again. He waited for exactly two seconds before a sigh escaped his lips.
Bjorn pushed himself up, swinging his free fist in a wide arc once more. The blow covered Adam’s entire torso, and it should have shattered every rib.
But Adam remained standing. Still holding Bjorn’s other fist. Still staring at him with that same empty expression.
[Name: Adam | Planet: SS4E | Strength: 93 Agility: 4 Endurance: 1 Perception: 1]
Even transformed into this monster, even with Bjorn’s newfound size, brutality, and power, the Silent Brawler was no longer in Adam’s league. Not even close. In fact, even through all the hammering, all the brutal impacts, Adam hadn’t bled once.
He was no longer in the same category as Bjorn, even in his monster form.
Adam sighed again. And with one fluid motion, he drove the Shion through Bjorn’s neck, severing every nerve in the cervical spine instantly.
Bjorn’s massive frame immediately toppled forward. Adam caught him gently, lowering the body to the ground as he pulled the blade free.
"I’m sorry," he whispered to the corpse.
Adam sat beside Bjorn, his eyes wandering around the field of wildflowers, their colors muted in the fading light.
"Hey... At least you get to be buried in such a beautiful place. But..." He also quickly stood up, patting his pants. "Not yet."
He grabbed a large tree branch from one of the trees they toppled, and covered Bjorn’s body. "I’ll come back to bury you properly. I just have something to do first."
Adam turned and walked away, the Shion hanging loose in his grip. But before he could even get far, something rustled behind him.
No...
He looked back... and Bjorn was slowly pushing the branch aside, rising to his feet.
What... have you done?
