Chapter 236: Chapter 232: Bloody Castle 13

Josh lay back on the bed, just settling down, when suddenly he felt an extremely sinister presence approaching.

This was not one of those trifling ghostly creatures.

Josh remained outwardly calm but tensed with vigilance, quietly gripping the long knife beside him under the covers.

An elderly sigh echoed from all directions, as if mixed in the wind, impossible to detect unless listened to carefully.

Outside the door came the sound of a woman’s high heels on the floor, slowly approaching.

In the group chat, Rob suddenly tagged Josh: [Did you hear any footsteps?]

Josh: [I heard it.]

Rob: [Boohoo I’m scared, can you come to my room and sleep with me, I’m in room 9.]

Josh didn’t respond, just focused on the footsteps outside.

If she remembered correctly, the corridor outside was carpeted thickly, and no matter how hard high heels hit, they couldn’t make such a crisp sound on the floor.

"Knock knock knock," the sound of knocking came from outside, but it wasn’t on Josh’s door.

It sounded like it was coming from across the hall.

"Who is it?" The door opposite opened, and Mina’s groggy voice sounded, followed by a woman’s gentle voice: "Excuse me, have you seen Prince Sisi? He doesn’t seem to be in his bedroom, and I can’t find him anywhere."

"No, no!" Mina’s voice held a hint of impatience.

"I see..." The woman’s voice elongated slightly: "Then where has he gone?"

A heavy thud sounded as if something had fallen, and Josh listened intently, but then there was sudden silence outside.

A moment later, the sound of high heels resumed, this time heading toward the room next to Josh’s.

"Knock knock knock," came the knocking again.

Rob: [Boohoo what should I do! She’s knocking on my door, I’m too scared to open it, what should I do! Josh, hurry, open your door and save me! Come to my room, we’ll face her together!]

Josh frowned slightly; Rob had just said he was in room 9.

But the knocking sound she heard was clearly next door, and she was in room 1, so next door couldn’t be room 9.

Outside, a woman’s long voice resonated: "Sir, could you open the door? I’m looking for someone."

She knocked again.

There was no response from inside.

Josh remained focused, as the knocking outside grew insistent, and the woman’s voice became sharper: "Why aren’t you opening the door? Are you hiding Prince Sisi inside?"

The door shook with the pounding.

The woman’s agitation was apparent from the knocking.

"Open the door! If you don’t, I’ll climb through the chimney~"

The words sounded like a prank, yet the tone was so grim it seemed more like a threat to carve someone open.

Soon, the sound of a door opening was heard, accompanied by Rob’s voice trembling as if it were vibrating: "Who are you looking for?"

The woman’s voice resumed its initial drawl: "I’m looking for Prince Sisi. He should be in his bedroom at this time."

Rob’s voice sounded fearful: "No, I’m the only one in my room."

"Is that so?"

The woman’s voice softened a bit, but Josh could still clearly hear the commotion outside, as if the sounds were meant to reach her ears.

Then came the thud of a heavy object falling.

Josh frowned slightly, hearing the clear high-heeled steps start again in the corridor, gradually fading away.

She yawned and closed her eyes.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, knocking sounded from outside.

She snapped her eyes open as she heard the woman’s long voice: "Hello, could you open the door? I’m looking for someone."

Josh sat up cautiously from the bed.

A dangerous aura from outside hit her right in the face.

Her instinct told her not to open the door.

The knocking outside grew louder, with the door shaking thunderously.

The woman’s voice grew louder: "Open the door! Open up! Is Prince Sisi in your room?! You better open up! I need to take a look!"

A system notification sounded.

Josh opened the panel and saw Yuze tagging her in the group chat: [Do you want to come out and take a look? I’m in the room next to yours, if you open the door, I’ll come out too.]

She squinted her eyes, not responding to the message.

Outside, the woman’s voice turned furious: "Bitch! Open the door! What are you doing in there with Prince Sisi?! You don’t think this door can keep me out, do you?"

"If you don’t open up, soon I’ll break the door down and eat your guts!"

With each door strike, the hallway light seeped in through the gaps, showing just how powerful the knocking was.

The flimsy wooden door looked not very sturdy as it was pounded into a distorted shape, on the verge of splintering.

Yuze messaged her again: [Josh, are you okay? Do you want to come out? Let’s handle this woman together.]

Josh ignored it and turned off the system notifications.

Outside, it slowly quieted down.

But Josh knew that the woman stood at the door.

She seemed to be contemplating how to get inside.

Josh’s bed faced the door, and the light from outside faintly passed through the carpet seams inside.

A rustling sound arose.

She looked toward the direction of the door, where something was rustling and moving under the door seam.

Josh gripped the knife under the covers tightly.

She remembered the chef’s instruction: no matter what sounds you hear, do not open the door.

The carpet at the door seam was pulled back, allowing a strip of light to leak inside.

Josh kept a wary gaze on the door seam.

It went silent outside once again.

The footsteps gradually faded away.

The woman seemed to have given up on entering her room.

Josh was now wide awake and decided to light a candle and sit on the bed, meditating with her legs crossed.

Having slept too much in the afternoon, she really wasn’t sleepy now.

There were still plenty of gemstones in storage, so she could slowly digest them.

The indoor temperature started to drop again, and the fire in the fireplace grew weaker.

Even though there was still unburned wood, it couldn’t stop the flame from dimming.

Josh frowned slightly, guiding Spiritual Power through her meridians, ignoring the increasing chill in her body.

But the sensation of her body heating up grew stronger, making it impossible for her to focus and gather energy.

Afraid of making a mistake in her cultivation, she reluctantly stopped meditating, barely opening her eyes, only to momentarily lock eyes with a bloodshot eye glaring through the door seam.

"Hehe, I see you!"

Outside, the woman had her face pressed against the ground, peering through the door seam!

Even as brave as Josh was, she was startled, instinctively gripping the long knife under the covers.

She slipped under the covers, giving the door seam a cold stare: "If you dare, come inside."

If this ghost woman could really break in, she would have done so already, rather than going through all the trouble of prying and knocking and yelling insults.

Upon hearing this, the ghost woman went into a frenzy, hammering at the door furiously, her throat producing a grating noise.

"I’ll kill you, I will surely kill you!"

The door of the next room suddenly opened.

The ghost woman let out a shrill scream, then there was silence.

Josh heard the sound of liquid splattering against the door.

The knocking resumed, much gentler this time: "Josh, come out for a moment, Rob’s in trouble."

It was Yuze’s voice.

Josh stared expressionlessly at the door seam.

Yuze continued knocking, but no shadow appeared under the door seam.

A complete stream of light leaked through it.
