Immortal Mythos: Bound by Void-Chapter 14: Rescue-Mission
Chapter 14 - 14: Rescue-Mission
The world around Yuki trembled.
The ground cracked beneath his feet, yet the void energy circling him began to calm—not by force, but by choice. He wasn't wrestling the power anymore. He was listening to it.
Each breath was heavier than the last, but it came with clarity.
"I can feel it..." Yuki whispered. "It's not just emptiness. It's... alive."
Himari stood a few meters away, arms crossed, observing closely. Her expression hadn't changed, but there was a subtle shift in her aura—an interest. For once, she didn't interrupt. She simply watched.
Yuki closed his eyes. The energy surged around his arms, flickering with black and violet threads. His heartbeat synced with the rhythm of the void, and instead of falling into chaos, he shaped it—like clay in his hands.
Then, he saw her.

Not in front of him—but in the stillness of his mind.
Aiko.
She was reaching for him. Lost. Scared. But not broken.
Yuki's eyes shot open. "She's not okay."
Himari tilted her head. "You saw something?"
"She's trapped. Somewhere deep." Yuki turned, his voice desperate. "I need to help her."
"You're not ready," Himari said quietly.
"I don't care." The void flared at his feet. "She's part of why I've made it this far."
Himari walked toward him, stopping just inches from him. "Then prove you're strong enough. If you want to tear through the veil between worlds, you'll need to pierce it with more than power."
Her finger tapped his chest. "With purpose."
Yuki gritted his teeth. "I have it."
A crack echoed through the sky.
The void behind him twisted and bloomed, like a portal—or a scar.
Yuki stepped forward, void energy condensing in his palm like a blade.
"I'm coming, Aiko."
And then—he vanished into the tear.
---
Darkness.
It wasn't just the absence of light—it was a suffocating, living thing. It pressed against Aiko's chest like an iron weight, whispering things in voices that weren't hers. Time didn't move here. Sound barely existed. She wasn't sure how long she'd been drifting.
She had tried to scream, but the void swallowed it whole.
Tears didn't fall here. They just disappeared into the black.
She hugged her knees to her chest, trying to remember warmth, light... Yuki.
His name felt like a fragile thread keeping her grounded. Even now, she could feel him somewhere—reaching.
"Don't give up," she whispered into the nothing.
Then—something changed.
The void trembled.
Like a distant heartbeat echoing through a cave. Aiko looked up. For the first time since she arrived, the dark wasn't still. Something cut through it—a shimmer, a flicker of light that twisted like smoke.
She stood up slowly, heart pounding.
"Yuki?" she called.
No answer. Just the growing hum of energy. And then—tearing through the void like a blade through silk—a rift opened.
He stumbled out of it, cloak whipping in the windless dark, eyes burning with determination. Void energy still danced around him like shadows loyal to his will.
Aiko gasped.
"Yuki!"
He looked up—and the second their eyes met, the void recoiled. The whispers stopped.
"Aiko," he said breathlessly. "I found you."
She ran to him, nearly collapsing into his arms. The contact shocked them both with warmth neither had felt in what seemed like ages.
"I knew you'd come," she whispered into his chest.
He held her tighter. "I won't leave you behind. Not again."
But even as he spoke, the rift behind them began to close—and something stirred beyond it. A presence. Watching.
Not all things in the void were sleeping.

Back in the real world...
Ren's eyes snapped open.
The wind around the mountain suddenly shifted direction, howling like it had been disturbed by something unnatural. Standing at the cliff's edge, Ren's gaze turned sharply toward the horizon, where the air shimmered faintly like heatwaves—but colder. Darker.
"He did it..." he muttered. "He opened the rift."
Behind him, Himari stood quietly, the wind tugging at the hem of her robe. Her expression was unreadable, but her aura rippled, alert and uneasy.
"That wasn't just a rift," she said softly. "Something is stirring inside."
Ren's wings twitched. "He's not alone in there. I thought it would take him longer to reach her."
Himari's voice dropped. "It wasn't just Yuki's power that found her. It was his heart."
Ren looked over his shoulder, frowning. "Sentiment weakens the mind."
"Or strengthens it," she replied, stepping up beside him. "Either way, they'll be coming back changed."
As the wind shifted again, they both felt it—the rift was closing.
Too quickly.
Ren cursed under his breath. "No, it's collapsing."

Back in the void...
Aiko and Yuki were still locked in that desperate embrace when the world around them cracked again. The rift was shrinking—fast.
"We have to go!" Yuki shouted.
"But—" Aiko hesitated, glancing back at the lingering shadows. "Something's still here."
"I know," Yuki said, already focusing. "But we can't fight it here. I'll get us out."
He reached out, calling on the void one more time—but this time with purpose. Not rage, not confusion. Intention.
The void responded.
A pulse of violet light spread from his body, parting the shadows as a glowing path formed beneath their feet.
Yuki took Aiko's hand and sprinted forward.
Behind them, the whispering returned—angrier now, louder. The presence that had been watching began to move. It didn't want them to leave.
The rift was almost gone.
With a final leap of faith, Yuki pushed them both forward, diving through just as the world behind them roared in fury and closed with a deafening crack.
---
Back in the real world...
Lightning surged through the sky as the rift exploded into a burst of light near the cliffside.
Ren shielded his eyes, wings flaring.
When the light faded... they were there.
Yuki collapsed onto the rocky ground, breathing hard, his hand still gripping Aiko's. She was unconscious, but alive.
Ren approached, eyes narrowing.
"He did it," Himari whispered. "He brought her back."
Yuki looked up at them, void energy still flickering faintly around his skin.
"She's safe," he breathed. "I kept my promise."
And then... he passed out.
