Chapter 3 - 3:Uneasy Awakening

The day passed in a blur for Yuki.

Each class dragged on, time crawling like molasses. But it wasn't boredom—it was distraction. Ren's cryptic warning echoed in his head, along with the memory of that strange wind and the feeling that something unseen was circling him, drawing closer.

His hands tingled throughout the day, like static was building beneath his skin. Every time he tried to focus on it, the sensation slipped away, like it was deliberately hiding.

Still, something was different about the air.

During lunch, he escaped to his usual spot—a large oak tree in the school yard, away from the noise and the crowds. The breeze was soft today, gentle even, but it carried something strange. A pull. Like the wind was trying to remind him of something he'd forgotten.

A small branch broke from above and landed silently in his lap.

Yuki flinched. He looked up, but the branches barely moved. No breeze strong enough to snap wood. And yet... it had fallen. No sound. No warning. Just there.

He brushed it away and scanned the yard, unsettled.

That's when he saw him.

A figure at the school gate—tall, thin, wearing a long dark coat. His face hidden beneath the shadow of a wide-brimmed hat. But even from this distance, Yuki felt the man's gaze. Sharp. Piercing. Watching.

He blinked.

Gone.

No one was there.

Yuki's skin crawled. A chill crept up his spine.

His phone buzzed.

A message from Ren.

> "Stay alert. You're not safe."

His stomach dropped. The words struck like a slap, turning unease into dread.

Yuki looked back at the gate.

Still empty.

But the feeling hadn't passed. If anything, it was stronger. The air was heavy now. Charged. Like the calm before a storm.

---

The feeling followed him back into the halls.

Even surrounded by students, laughter, and life, Yuki felt completely alone. The weight of unseen eyes clung to him, thick as fog. The school itself felt wrong—shadows stretched too far, silence lingered too long.

When the final bell rang, Yuki bolted.

He shoved past the exit doors, needing to escape, to breathe.

But as he stepped outside—

There he was again.

The man in the coat.

Standing just outside the gates, still and silent, as if waiting for him.

Yuki didn't look away this time. He stared, heart pounding, frozen in place.

A gust of wind rushed past.

And in it, a whisper:

"Yuki..."

His breath caught. He spun around, searching behind him.

No one.

He turned back—and the man was closer.

Feet away.

The shift had been instant. One moment distant. The next, standing right before him.

Yuki's chest tightened. The man didn't move. Didn't speak. But the pressure around him was suffocating, like gravity itself was bending toward him.

Then—

It appeared.

A creature emerged from behind the man. Towering. Fox-shaped, but not normal. Its fur shimmered like smoke lit by moonlight, ever-shifting. Eyes glowing with impossible depth. Ancient. Wild.

It didn't make a sound.

But it looked through him.

And something inside Yuki answered.

Power surged. Raw and primal. His body trembled as something within him—dormant, waiting—reacted to the creature's presence. The wind swirled, whipping into a silent storm.

Then, the man spoke.

"Yuki..." Calm, but heavy. "You've come into your power, haven't you?"

Yuki stumbled back, the wind spiraling around him like it recognized him. The fox stepped forward, silent and unwavering.

Its mouth opened—not to roar, not to growl—but to show.

Images exploded in his mind.

Twilight. Stone temples lost to time. Fire and lightning. Wings and fangs. Wars fought in places he'd never seen—but somehow knew.

Visions of a forgotten world that felt like home.

Yuki gasped, eyes wide.

The man watched silently. No judgment. Just certainty.

"It begins now, kitsune."

Then, as suddenly as they had appeared—

The fox turned, fading into the wind.

The man vanished without a trace.

And Yuki was alone.

Staggered. Shaking. Changed.

Was it real?

Was he dreaming?

What even was he anymore?

His phone buzzed again. Another message from Ren.

> "Trust no one. Not even me."

The air stilled. The wind was quiet now.

But something had awakened inside him.

And Yuki didn't know if he feared the wind outside... or the power now whispering within.
