“Junior Brother Lin, wait for me outside.”
Shen Long said.
Lin Cheng agreed and stood up to walk outside.
“Senior Brother Qin, I have some matters I’d like to ask you about.
May I have a word with you in private?”
Shen Long said politely.
Qin Shan nodded, led Shen Long to a secret room, and closed the stone door.
“Senior Brother Qin, our sect is famous for its Insect Repelling and Beast Taming Technique, so you must be raising many spirit insects from the Heaven and Earth Exotic Insect List, right?
Are there any channels through which I can obtain the spirit insects from the list?”
Shen Long asked courteously.
“You can exchange them for Kind Attributes, or purchase them from fellow disciples.
If you really want to buy a top-ranked spirit insect, you can go to Golden Cicada Peak to find Master Uncle Xu.
He is known in our sect for his obsession with insects and raises many Strange Bugs.”
Qin Shan said.
Shen Long asked a few more questions, mainly about the daily cultivation and living of new disciples, and Qin Shan answered each one.
“Thank you for resolving my doubts, Senior Brother Qin.
This is a small token of my gratitude, though it cannot express my full appreciation.
I will need your help and care in the future.”
Shen Long took out fifty Spirit Stones and handed them to Qin Shan.
One does not slap a smiling face, nor scold a gift-giving person.
Qin Shan was in charge of managing the disciples of Green Cloud Peak.
Shen Long did not expect the fifty Spirit Stones to ingratiate him with Qin Shan but at least aimed not to make an enemy.
“No problem at all.”
Qin Shan did not refuse and accepted the fifty Spirit Stones.
After some small talk, Shen Long bid his farewell.
As he left the Green Cloud Palace, Lin Cheng quickly approached him.
“Junior Brother Shen, are you done?”
Lin Cheng asked.
Shen Long nodded and said, “Let’s go!
To my residence.”
The two arrived at Qingmei Courtyard and, looking at the spirit field overgrown with weeds, Lin Cheng said, “We’ll need to burn these weeds, which will also serve as fertilizer.”
He patted the red spirit beast bag at his waist, and a buzzing sound ensued.
Dozens of palm-sized bees flew out, their bodies red with gold stripes and covered in fine fuzz, their wings silver.
Among them, one bee was larger than the others, likely the Bee King.
“These are Silver-Winged Flaming Bees, known for their keen sense of smell.
Besides producing Spirit Honey, they’re also strong in killing pests.”
Lin Cheng explained.
The dozens of Silver-Winged Flaming Bees dispersed, each opening its mouth to spray out a finger-thick red flame that landed on the weeds.
The fire spread quickly, burning the weeds to ash, and as black beetles flew out, the Silver-Winged Flaming Bees chased after them, wrestling with the beetles in the air.
A red stinger extended from the tail of each Silver-Winged Flaming Bee, easily piercing through the heads of the black beetles.
“What kind of Demon Insect is this?”
Shen Long asked.
“Black Mustard Worms, a common pest with strong reproductive abilities.
They usually crawl on rice ears or Spiritual Medicine, making them difficult to detect.”
Lin Cheng explained.
Shen Long nodded, feeling that his Spirit Stones were well spent.
Ranked one thousand and thirty-sixth on the Heaven and Earth Exotic Insect List, the Silver-Winged Flaming Bees had no trouble handling these Black Mustard Worms.
Lin Cheng slapped the yellow spirit beast bag at his waist, and five yellow eels flew out, burrowing into the spirit field.
“Earthcovering Eels!”
Shen Long recognized this type of spirit insect, the Earthcovering Eel, which was not listed on the Heaven and Earth Exotic Insect List.
This spirit insect was mainly used to improve soil quality and also to loosen the soil.
Five Earthcovering Eels moved through the spirit soil, and some of the spirit soil was turned over to the surface, revealing some thread-like golden worms that seemed to be afraid of sunlight, burrowing into the spirit soil.
The Silver-Winged Flaming Bees pounced on them, using their stingers to pierce through the bodies of these golden worms and ate them.
“These are Golden Thread Worms, they abhor sunlight, and usually hide in the spirit soil, gnawing on the roots and stems of spirit plants.
They lay their eggs inside the bodies of spirit plants, and the hatching larvae feed on the spirit plants, making them common pests,”
Lin Cheng explained.
The five Earthcovering Eels moved through the spirit field, breaking up large clumps of spirit soil into smaller pieces, with some Golden Thread Worms emerging and being devoured by the Silver-Winged Flaming Bees.
Shen Long turned and walked into Qingmei Pavilion, and before long, he came out holding a green teapot and two teacups.
“Junior Brother Lin, have some tea to relieve your fatigue,”
Shen Long poured a cup of spiritual tea for Lin Cheng.
Lin Cheng didn’t stand on ceremony, taking the teacup and taking a sip.
“How long will the pest control take?”
Shen Long asked.
“Generally, it needs to continue for three days.
Some pests are in egg form and have not hatched yet, making them hard to find.
Later, I will sprinkle some pesticide liquid, which can kill the eggs of these pests,”
Lin Cheng said.
Shen Long then asked some more about planting spirit rice, and Lin Cheng answered each question.
Theory is one thing; the actual operation is another.
“Senior Brother Shen, you can leave this place to me.
The first pest control session takes half an hour, and I’ll try to kill as many pests as possible.
You go ahead with your work!
I’ll call you when I’m done,”
Lin Cheng said.
“Then go ahead with your work.
You can go back when you’re done; there’s nothing of value here,”
After setting down the teapot and teacups, Shen Long flicked his sleeve, and a huge green leaf flew out, shimmering with spiritual light.
It was an inferior Flying Artifact, the Green Cloud Leaf, one of the entrance benefits.
Shen Long stepped onto the Green Cloud Leaf and input a spell into it, and the leaf soared high into the sky.
After the time it took to drink a cup of tea, the Green Cloud Leaf landed near a thirty-six-story tall blue pavilion with a signboard that read “Scripture Pavilion,” where quite a few disciples were coming in and out.
Shen Long stowed away the Green Cloud Leaf and strode in.
Upon entering the Scripture Pavilion, he was greeted by a spacious and bright hall, with thirty-six tall blue bookshelves that stood over two zhang high and were filled with numerous books.
Each bookshelf had a blue wooden plaque hanging on it, detailing the content of the books on that shelf.
Spiritual Medicine, Spirit Insects, minerals, miscellaneous discussions, odd tales and anecdotes, brewing, and more were available, covering a wide variety.
On the left side of the entrance, there was a blue counter where an elderly man clad in blue robes, over seventy years of age, sat behind it, engrossed in a thick tome.
Not far from the counter was a blue stairway leading to the second floor.
The books on the first floor could be read for free, but could not be taken outside of the Scripture Pavilion.
Many disciples were busy perusing the books.
Shen Long quickly walked toward a bookshelf, below which a blue wooden plaque read “Spirit Beast.”
There were plenty of books on the shelf, like “Spirit Monkey Discourses,” “Spirit Fish Breeding Guidelines,” “Spirit Turtle Atlas,” and many more…
These books recorded the habits, divine skills, and breeding experiences of various monster beasts, offering useful references.
Shen Long browsed as he walked, and after a while, he stopped, fetched a blue wooden stool, climbed up, and took down a red book from the top shelf, which bore the title “Fire Rock Beast Breeding Insights” in big characters.
Shen Long carried the stool to a corner, sat down, and began reading.
Fire Rock Beasts typically live inside volcanoes, crave Fire Attribute spiritual medicines, and are proficient in fire-type spells, able to exert their greatest power in volcano clusters during spell battles.
Without Fire Attribute spiritual medicines, one could also feed a Fire Rock Beast with spirit rice or other spiritual medicines.
The Fire Rock Beast is best kept in a volcano or a location with abundant fire spiritual energy, which Shen Long clearly lacked.
After reading “Fire Rock Beast Breeding Insights,” Shen Long went on to consult “Hundred Scorpions Record” and “Gold-devouring Ant Breeding Essentials.”
“Hundred Scorpions Record” documented the characteristics, divine skills, and hundreds of types of demon scorpions, including some information on the Iron Tail Scorpion, though not much.
“Hundred Scorpions Record” focused on the more powerful demon scorpions.
