Chapter 54: Cathedral [PART 1]

Two days later.

Lunaris stood atop a high lookout, gazing over the sprawling land before him.

This place is beginning to come together.

He looked toward the farms.

The initial modified plants seemed to be maturing nicely. Unlike normal crops that grew in just a day thanks to the Spirit Queen’s blessing, these modified ones were much more demanding, taking longer to develop.

From when he had planted them, he estimated it had been about a week.

He had also modified the new crops they had purchased from Astoria and had them planted as well. Those should be ready in a few days.

With a population of over ten thousand, one would think they had a food emergency on their hands.

But it was far from it.

With his blessing - which included Rapid Regeneration - his people could sustain themselves on mana alone. They didn’t strictly need food to survive.

But the crops he was growing had their uses.

Not only for trading, but they were also rich in mana. Consuming them would be beneficial for his people’s growth.

Over the past two days, he had visited all the departments and distributed relevant skills to aid their work.

He also took the opportunity to conduct some experiments.

One thing that had been bothering him was the gap between affinities and skills.

If someone had a Fireball skill, could they create a fireball without having Fire Elemental Affinity?

The answer turned out to be yes.

Well, not exactly.

It wasn’t that straightforward. But after some modification on his part, he was able to create a standalone binary that would produce a fireball or any other magical effect without necessarily requiring the related affinity/dependency.

That said, having the affinity was definitely better. And it wasn’t a loss for him to grant both, so perhaps the research was useless.

But thinking about it more carefully, maybe it wasn’t as useless as he thought.

There were some skills he wasn’t willing to share at the moment.

Because they could be dangerous to him.

Spatial Domain was an example.

Storage and Isolation were both dependencies of his Blink skill. But he wasn’t comfortable sharing these foundational skills with others just to grant them Blink - even though Blink would be incredibly useful for his intelligence squad.

However, with the right process, as he had tested, he could distribute Blink as a single standalone binary. No dependencies required.

This opened up many possibilities.

At that moment...

Footsteps.

Someone was climbing up to the lookout.

A goblin guard reached the top and froze when he saw Lunaris standing there.

His eyes went wide.

He immediately dropped to his knees.

"This humble one greets the Eternal Moon!"

Lunaris waved it off.

"Tell your superior to organize a better shift-changing system."

The goblin looked up nervously.

"The position should never be left empty. One should only leave after their replacement arrives."

He paused.

"You should also avoid having overlapping breaks. Stagger them properly."

The goblin pressed his forehead to the ground.

"Yes, my Lord! I will relay this immediately!"

Lunaris stepped off the lookout.

He plummeted through the air...

And landed softly in his slime form, bouncing twice before transforming back into his beastman appearance.

He looked forward.

Maybe it’s time to implement the other thing I’ve been working on.

They had been bottlenecked by his church on the infrastructure side.

Since no building could be larger than the church, they were unable to construct critical facilities. Housing was cramped. Workshops were limited. Storage was inadequate.

It could be easily resolved by just building a temporarily bigger church to allow for the construction of other buildings.

But he was looking for a more permanent solution.

He didn’t want to keep building bigger and bigger churches every time they needed greater infrastructure.

He also wanted to improve their overall building technology.

They couldn’t just use wood forever.

While there was plenty of it in the forest, he might get into trouble with the Spirit Queen if he cut down too much.

Time to put my research into practice.

...

With his atomic-level access to the space around him through Spatial Domain, he could perceive and manipulate matter at its most fundamental level.

This meant he could easily extract specific elements from his surroundings.

Carbon dioxide from the air. Oxygen. Hydrogen. Nitrogen.

The atmosphere was full of raw materials just waiting to be harvested.

And with his Metal Affinity, he discovered something remarkable.

He could create various metals if he knew their chemical composition.

Iron was simple - just pure iron atoms arranged in a crystalline structure.

Steel required carbon mixed into the iron lattice at specific ratios.

Aluminum. Copper. Zinc. All were possible.

Mixing this capability with all his other affinities - Earth, Fire, Water, and the rest - he could produce virtually any element or compound.

That was the foundation.

From there, he built upon this knowledge.

Calcium carbonate extracted from limestone deposits. Silicon dioxide from sand. Combined with heat and pressure manipulation through his Fire and Earth affinities, he could produce cement powder.

Mix that with water and aggregate, and he had concrete.

For reinforcement, he created iron bars - rebar - using his Metal Affinity. Long, straight, and perfectly uniform.

Glass was simply silicon dioxide heated to its melting point and then cooled rapidly. With his precise temperature control, he could create perfectly clear panes.

Wood he could still acquire from the forest in reasonable quantities.

Stone blocks he could cut directly from the earth, shaping them with Mana Slash and his spatial manipulation.

With all these materials at his disposal, he was ready.

...

Lunaris stood before a large clearing.

This would be the site.

He closed his eyes and extended his Spatial Domain to its maximum range.

Every atom. Every particle. Every mote of dust within that sphere was under his perception.

He began.

First, the foundation.

He extracted calcium, silicon, aluminum, and iron from the surrounding earth. Combined them with oxygen and heated the mixture to over a thousand degrees using concentrated Fire Affinity.

Cementite powder formed in massive quantities, hovering in the air before him.

He mixed it with water molecules pulled from the humidity and aggregate stone he had crushed moments before.

Concrete.

He poured it into the ground, shaping it with his will. A massive rectangular foundation took form, spreading outward and downward.

Rebar materialized within the concrete as he created iron and wove it into a reinforcing lattice.

The foundation solidified almost instantly under his accelerated processes.
