Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 882: No more land
"You really like to get on my nerves, don’t you?" Rain asked. "When I told you that you could talk about me like that? Maybe I should make a soundproof room and isolate you in there."
"We don’t have anything in common to talk about, and our memories are fragmented, so…" Nigel said.
Rain ignored the answer, and he resumed kicking the shield… Rain felt bad for thinking that should have solved things in any other way. One can’t use logic and reason against morons.
"That is enough internet for today, now I will wash myself with holy water to get rid myself of all the stupidity I have seen today," Rain said after he sighed in relief. "At least kicking you is a good stress relief."
"Excuse me, can I ask one question?" Larisa asked.
"You already did, but go on," Rain said.
"Nigel told me a few things that seem to be your goal, and while I can understand your reasons why you would be cautious of us, I would feel grateful if you could help us as well while we help you," Larisa said.
"He is annoying and you are polite, is that it?" Rain asked. "You two have interesting ways to manipulate me."
"This might sound convenient, but that isn’t my goal," Larisa said. "You should have realized by now that we don’t have real bodies, so the most prevalent of our characteristics is what you can see right now, those characteristics and our desires as well.
Considering the fact that you were able to create a relic to almost revive yourself, you should know what is the most important thing to achieve our goals."
Larisa was being roundabout about that, but she wanted to say that their desire to kill the dragons was the real deal and the only thing that they wanted. Naturally, that was just too much suspicious. Rain had even more reasons to be doubtful of her since she was smart and have boobs, those were essentially the equivalent of Rain’s kryptonite.
"Absolutely poetic, we have got Shakespeare over here," Rain said. "For now, and for quite a while, I don’t have any reasons to trust you two."
Rain sensed a gradual regression in his behavior, a return to the person he used to be before his rebirth. Interacting with someone from Earth, from the same time period as himself, seemed to have triggered this change. He realized that his behavior around them was different from the courteous and considerate manner he’d adopted after being reborn.

Before his reincarnation, Rain wasn’t inclined to make an effort to be the best version of himself; his actions were governed by a different set of values and attitudes. This shift in behavior felt like a step backward in his personal growth.
The encounter reminded him of the traits he had consciously tried to leave behind after his rebirth—the inclination towards less noble conduct and the lack of motivation to present his best self. Maybe his final thoughts in that life affected him as well.
The contrast between his current disposition and the persona he had strived to embody after his rebirth was visible, causing him to reflect on the journey he had endured to become a better person.
"I suppose we have to win each other’s trust here, what can we do to reach that goal?" Larisa asked. Your journey continues on novelbuddy
"I can’t see why I have to worry about winning your trust," Rain frowned.
"You need it if you truly want to use our abilities. Even here, we can seal the effects of the relics, and you won’t be able to use them," Larisa said. "Naturally, we aren’t doing that since that could put your life at risk."
"That is interesting, but it isn’t like I need your abilities right now," Rain shrugged. "When you convince me that you aren’t two very suspicious individuals who died filled with regrets, we can sit down and talk on how to solve our issues. That is all. By the way, there was this question my father always asked me.
It was like this: Son, I have a question, why when I always enter your bedroom, you are always looking at the wallpaper on the computer screen? Have you guys experienced that before dying?"
Larisa wondered what was the point of the question. As for Nigel, he looked away suspiciously… his father probably asked him the same question.
"I am starting to understand the issue here. You like being in total command when the place has people that the people there are from a place where you don’t have to hide your thoughts," Larisa said while nodding. "I can’t blame you for dealing with Nigel like that, but you don’t have reasons to be so uncooperative with me.
I threw away my human shell to achieve the goal of recovering earth from the hands of those monsters and that is my only goal."
"I don’t have any doubts about that, I have some suspicions based on what you are willing to do to achieve that," Rain said.
"I see, that is understandable," Larisa said while nodding again. "In that case, we can only have patience until both sides feel more comfortable with each other. Still, I ask of you to be a bit more understanding. We might gain more power as you use our relics, but that won’t help us achieve our goals and that will only make us more impatient."
"I will keep that in mind," Rain said.
Rain sighed and then returned to the real world… he could tell that he wasn’t going to endure that for long, so he was wondering about the best way to seal those relics if they proved themselves to be more worth than the hassle.
In any case, Rain resumed his dash and soon began to feel the smell of the ocean, and he also noticed that he was reaching it… at the same time, the land was heading toward the north while only the ocean was further in the west.
