Infinite Slaughter System: I Kill, Therefore I Ascend!-Chapter 174: Upgrading Daoist Arts! 7
Li Ling shook his head and pushed these weird thoughts out of his mind. He became slightly excited because after spending nearly six whole months in seclusion raising his Daoist Arts, he had finally reached the one that occupied his mind day and night, also being his most powerful Daoist Art yet.
The Tai Xu Mysterious Method!
Thinking back on the Tai Xu Mysterious Method, Li Ling had to admit it had been one of the more absurd ’side purchases’ he’d ever made.
Back then, he had utilized the Blessed Augury to pay the damned Heaven’s Will some Slaughter Points to find it in the possession of Bai Yegui, even being partly dragged into his ongoing fate tribulation. After meeting this minor protagonist, the two dueled it out, and Li Ling’s first rise to fame began from that point on.
After all that, he had only invested 1,000 Slaughter Points into it because he was stuck in his room refining a lump of Spirit Soil for the Five Elements Alchemy process and wanted to make use of the downtime.
He hadn’t expected the comprehension wave that followed to tell him that the Entry stage alone demanded a Void-Touched Physique, a void-element physique ranked twelfth on the entire continent, the kind of thing sects would burn their foundations for just to push one ancestor into Void Refinement.
Yet the Infinite Slaughter System had done what it always did, quietly rewriting his body so he met the conditions perfectly, handing him a physique that all those great sects dreamed of without him lifting a finger.
That first stage had also given him the true reason everyone coveted space arts: the Void Step.
With it, he could half-elementalize into subspace and reappear anywhere within his spirit sense range, his body passing through the void like a bullet through the atmosphere. Even just his spirit sense alone could enter and ride the void like a surfer, bypassing barriers and blockades that weren’t explicitly warded against spatial intrusion.
The first time he pushed his perception into that dark purple storm between worlds, he’d learned its limits too. At his realm back then, he could only send his spirit sense in for a brief few seconds, and in there he could only see and hear, unable to touch or interact.
Even so, it was enough to spy on neighbors through subspace and enable him to develop long-distance space travel using the ’void skipping’ method, which he used to traverse the expansive Qing Shan Sect region to annihilate the numbered markets up to number five, where he was intercepted by Nascent Soul Elder Song Yan.
It also proved useful in the tense situation with Zhen Xueren and the Flood Dragon Brothers, allowing him to pose as a seventh-realm powerhouse and negotiate his survival, as well as that of Zhen Xueren.
Then there was the Advanced stage, which cost 2,000 Slaughter Points and granted another sub-ability that everyone coveted: the Void Space, which was a sealed inner world he could open and close at will, separate from external void rings and space arrays.
The size at the Advanced stage was modest by planetary standards but huge for an individual, enough to store live creatures, pill furnaces, captives, or an entire community. Up until now, almost everything he owned was kept in this Void Space, which was strong enough to withstand up to Nascent Soul–level power when he was at the second realm.
Now, at the third realm of qi cultivation, it could withstand up to what felt like Soul Formation–level power, not to mention that as his Dharma Sense range expanded, so too did the barriers of his inner world, now reaching the full range of his ’loose’ Dharma Sense.
Apart from that, he gained the Void Seeking Physique, which was the third-best physique in the mortal realm known by Tian Ming Continent cultivators. Its scope of abilities was superior to the Void-Touched version, and it had been his mainstay up until now.
And the next level, the Expert stage, required 5,000 Slaughter Points, which was a significant leap from 2,000 at the previous stage. However, the more this was so, the more Li Ling couldn’t help but breathe roughly, wondering what this new ability would beget.
Without hesitation, he spent the 5,000 Slaughter Points and felt his body shift greatly, the world around him wobbling as subspace was involuntarily opened up and unleashed void storms directly on his figure, purifying him with their fiercest power.
The young man himself entered a deep state of comprehension that lasted exactly a week, during which the continuous buffeting of the void storm on his body continued from beginning to end, yet he did not even flinch in pain, nor did any harm come to him.
And that was because, when Li Ling opened his eyes, the entire world appeared different to him.
He could feel space and the void as if it were the ocean around him and he were a shark swimming within.
Indeed, this comparison was apt, because the slew of abilities and powers Li Ling gained from this upgrade were truly moving.
First was his newly upgraded physique, which was named the Void Law Body, an unknown and undiscovered semi-immortal-level physique. It straddled the area between a peak mortal physique and an average immortal physique, granting powers that were something out of imagination for mortals yet somewhat normal to immortals.
The Void Law Body basically guaranteed entry into the Void Refinement realm even if you ate, slept, and played around, because one had all the powers and abilities of a Void Refinement cultivator without having the realm attached. Everything a seventh-realm, space-aligned powerhouse could do, Li Ling could now do organically without using any tricks like what he did with Zhen Xueren, just without the ’power level’ of someone at the seventh realm.
So once you achieved Dao Integration Peak, you might sneeze and find yourself in Void Refinement Peak the next second, ready to walk into Nihility like it was nothing, saving you centuries of cultivation time.
The second was his new major sub-ability, which was the Space Portal. This featured the ability to create a wormhole in space between two anchored points, allowing himself and as many others as he wished to traverse that distance in an instant.
It was an auxiliary ability best used for logistics and transportation, allowing one to move armies or supplies in seconds, or even relocate entire factions to safety, as well as transport rare resources from safe zone to safe zone.
Its utility was endless, and Li Ling was irreducibly pleased with it, for like his Void Space, he could also cleverly use it to redirect attacks into it and allow them to be spat out in front of his foe, causing them to be hit with their own blows.
There were two modes of using this sub-ability. The first was to make a wormhole between two places within the range of his Dharma Sense, acting like Void Step but able to carry others along without harming them. The second was to utilize placed spatial anchors as focal points, allowing him to mobilize himself to them with a slightly higher cost.
He gained the ability to place spatial anchors at the Advanced stage, so he had put one in the Boundless Joy Sect’s outpost where his second wife Shen Ziyan awaited him, while also placing one in Green Mountain City, the capital of the Qing Shan Sect.
Naturally, he also placed one here, in his current abode in the Holy City.
The best part was that Li Fan, after being updated with this Daoist Art, should be able to place spatial anchors on the side of the Southern Righteous Sects, allowing him to pop over there for mass killings to rapidly gather Slaughter Points.
Not only that, with his own placed spatial anchors, she could always pop back to him and update him on anything or simply avoid danger from that side. This ability had really come at a great time, and its use to Li Ling was truly heart-touching.
But his happy smile faded when he saw that the Infinite Slaughter System told him he could no longer upgrade the Tai Xu Mysterious Method because his realm was not sufficient.
Then again, it made sense. The art had reached the peak of mortality, already requiring a half-step immortal physique. Clearly, the final two stages of Mastery and Perfection required actual immortal-tier physiques, and even the arrogant Infinite Slaughter System wouldn’t jump ahead of itself, not to mention whether Li Ling could even bear it.
As such, he could only sigh and turn his focus to his last but one Daoist Art, and one he truly looked forward to upgrading: the Nine Heights Pagoda!
This Daoist Art was one that would empower his spirit sense and fortify his mind, so he immediately glanced at its meager cost of 60 Slaughter Points and paid it without hesitation.
